Hi guys, new thread for us to carry on!

I reckon there must be quite a few left, cos Mumsnet have jumped on a few threads to get more people to sign up! Plus if they want 1000 responses, CB will have to have sent out alot more than 1000. They need feedback by October 2008...so lots more than 1000, I reckon!

Hello all,

Need to run a teleconference in 14 minutes but just had to come on and post about my doggy!!

Tilly is a 2 year old yellow lab. We first went to see her when she was 4 weeks old and then again at 6 weeks and then picked her up at 8 weeks. We've still got film footage of her that we took on the first two visits. Bizarre that she's grown into the giant dog that she is now. We were hoping for a smaller labrador, but that wasn't to be - she's bigger than most males (by bigger I mean taller...). We're really careful with her food because Labs can get really overweight.

She is definitely my baby and because I work from home, she has my company all day. She gets walked 3 times a day, 2 walks for one hour and then a half hour walk at lunchtime. So she's very spoilt. Literally 200 yards from our house there's a mammoth field (about the size of 2 football pitches) with a river running down one side of it. So that's where she goes twice a day.

When I have to go away on business, we have a dog-walker that comes in to take her out with his dog. He charges £6 an hour but it's definitely worth it to know that she's having fun. She has a best friend who is a 2 year old black lab called Ebony. They are gorgeous together and so funny!!

Tilly cost us £500 to buy but she is worth every penny. This may sound weird, but do you other dog-lovers love the smell of your dogs? I don't like the smell of other dogs, but I think when you have them from a puppy, they have a distinctive smell that you recognise and I just love it!! We've got a small house with a small front garden (hence all the walks!!) and in the lounge we have just one big sofa. I sit one side, DH sits the other and Tilly lies across the middle!!

Anyway, I'm swooning about my puppy now so must go and get on with my meeting!!

Hope you're all Ok today. Eth, hope you're feeling better today.

I had the first wonderful night's sleep in a week last night. But only because the Doc told me to take Ibuprofen. DH didn't want me to just in case I'm already pregnant, but it was getting ridiculous that I couldn't sleep because of the pain. Surely people still take painkillers when they're only a week or two preganant and don't even realise they are? Surely it can't do too much damage?!!

xxx

saz007 · 15/08/2008 12:34

I'd love a dog but as we both work full time I dont think it would be fair just yet. I have a dog-in-law tho and she's lovely, completely insane but lovely

For some reason I'm feeling really excited - bring on the weekend!!

heverhoney1 · 15/08/2008 11:46

All together now -aaahhhhhh!!! doggies!!!

I had a cocker spaniel growing up and he was just the loveliest thing - thick as 2 short planks and mad as a box of frogs but he was lovely!!!

DP allergic to doggies so none for me now!!

wildfig · 15/08/2008 11:37

My first dog, yes, but he had one growing up (though I don't know how much actual poo-clearing/bathing/responsible stuff he did!). We're both in our mid-thirties and freelance, so I think if we don't get broken in to the idea of having our movements restricted soon, the arrival of a baby might just about finish us off...

Poor puppy from the puppy farm! Did you go there directly and liberate him/her? Spaniels are so adorable - I can never tell the difference between springers and cockers.

fairywing · 15/08/2008 11:26

I would imgine dogs are a fairly good trial run!!We have a 5 yr old springer who was rescued directly from an awful puppy farm at 9 months, and a very lively 6 month old cocker! In terms of being restricted about going out and having to alway consider them in your plans i would say they are a great introduction to the reponsibilities of parenting! Oh and of course the being consistent and patient and then theres all the bodily functions to deal with!! Will this be your first dog?

wildfig · 15/08/2008 10:32

vix I know what you mean about MN being far too addicting - I've had to force myself not to log on until I've met my deadline, and it's soooo hard, wondering what's been going on. I've started to get addicted to observing the tiniest twinges too; I never knew my breasts did so much over the course of a month. Twinges, aches, tiny stabby nipple pains. Normally I'd be logging onto nhsdirect, convinced I'd got some terminal illness, but now it's 'ooooh, pregnancy symptom?' [strokes chin emoticon]

crunchy and fairywing - are dogs a good trial run for a baby then?! We went to see the basset hound puppy we're getting last weekend, but ended up falling in love with a three year old dog instead, who needs a new home. She's 35 in canine years and hasn't been able to have pups yet, so my heart went out to her! DH has got to ring the breeder tonight to tell him what we've decided and I think it's a bit like having children - there's never 'the right time' and you have to go with the flow of what comes along. I'm trying to be que sera sera about TTC, as you can see... [am CD 16, DH is going round with bemused smile on his face, hasn't seen so much action in 12 years]

fairywing · 15/08/2008 10:21

Well i've told 3 of my friends and DH has told a couple of his. I suspect i may need the support from mine and i'm glad he wil have womeone to talk to if things do get tough. We are definitely not telling any family yet though! Couldn't cope with the pressure of being constantly quizzed about it, or any of the sarcastic comments that are bound to happen - that will be bad anough if we actually do get pregnant!!

saz007 · 15/08/2008 10:02

ROFL Summerbird!! Have a fantastic holiday not at all sitting in an office!

Fairywing fingers crossed that you and your friend get to go thru it together, that will be nice. We're not telling anyone in RL that were are TTC, altho MIL is keeping an eagle eye out for any snippet of info she can get!

summerbird · 15/08/2008 09:55

hi there just jumping on to say bye bye till wednesday, before i go i must tell you my funny story

i went to tesco last night and felt that familiar twinge in my side (OV Pain) so as it was 3 days early i bombed it back in my little honda, threw the shopping down and dragged DH out of the kitchen upstairs, shouting 'im ovulating hurry up' bless him he didnt have a chance!! he thought it was great (thank god) and loves this new little minx that TTC has unleased!

have great weekend everyone - the sun is shining and i have my shorts on

fairywing · 15/08/2008 09:50

Thanks Saz, no not staying away, would have been nice but we have to get back for the dogs. I haven't been a bridesmaid since i was 2! It's my best friends wedding who is also TTC and we are kind of hoping we might be able to go through pregnancy together.

saz007 · 15/08/2008 09:44

Morning all,

Heverhoney virtual hangovers are the way forward!!!!

Fairywing I think you should be ok so far, just need to make the most of the next week or so. The wedding should help, will you be staying away? I've never been a bridesmaid...saying that the first wedding I went to was my own! I do love them tho

All aboard the BDing train!

fairywing · 15/08/2008 09:39

Hi all, i'm on CD8 today and have only bd'ed once so far. From everything i've read i think next week is the important one...i think??!! We are at a wedding this weekend, i'm bridesmaid, so should be all romantic and put me in the mood a bit more, DH needs no encouragement!! So i guess we just get down to it as much as possible this next week, unless i've got that totally wrong. I have no idea how long my cycle is either which doesn't help and will make the 2ww even harder!

heverhoney1 · 15/08/2008 09:06

Good Morning everyone - Are the hangovers from the pink and fizzy stuff bad??

Vix67 · 14/08/2008 20:59

ha ha yeah i know mine is the same, i am trying to train her NOT to jump up at everyone, but she is not really listening!!

don't worry about chickening out, you have made the decision now and what's meant to be is meant to be ... or so they say!!!!

i am starting the dreaded 2WW and all i can think is am i or aren't i??!!

Gonna log off now and give my DP some attention as think he is getting a bit jealous of MN!!

Speak to you tomorrow x

crunchynutter · 14/08/2008 20:47

ok last injection was about 22nd of march so I was due to go 14th June but didn't obviously! We had said we would stop before and I chickened out-wish I had now!

My dog is a little excitable and tends to jump all over everyone he has calmed down a lot in the last year though so I'm sure he'll be great by the time we have our babies! I hope anyway! He is a clever boy he's just spoilt! Xx

Crunchy when was ur last depo provera injection?? my parents have a labrador she is gorgeous, ive got a girl staffy who is exactly the same .... thinks everything is hers!! We r quite lucky though and have my DH sisters's baby to babysit for , he is only 11 weeks!! Millie ( my dog ) is very good with him tho so that's good!! I love babysitting for him but always feel a bit down once he goes back as it reminds how much I want my own baby!! Not that i need reminding

summerbird · 14/08/2008 19:55

eth you poor love, i agree with the girls that your mum is probably worrying about you a little too much and i think she is maybe transferring some of her own anxiety over to you, i only say this because my mum does things like this too, much as i love her i am dreading the point when we inevitably clash about how i am raising my child. you are going to be just fine honey, everyone gets anxious when PG and it will be perfectly natural.

x

crunchynutter · 14/08/2008 19:45

I've been waiting 9weeks I've heard it can take 6monthz plus though so trying not to get down but I seem to have constant pmt! Lower back ache, sore (.)(.), it's not fair! Does get you down waiting! I have a Labrador (dawn does too he is definitly my baby-always will be! I think when I do find out I am pg I am going to buy a small crib and doll and train him not to jump on it cos he's that used to everything being his! That should give him about 8months too learn thAt babies aren't toys! Nobody will let me practise with their real babies for some reason xx

Vix67 · 14/08/2008 19:25

eth don't worry about ur mum, she won't mean to upset you. If she had a bad time through her pregnancy she is probably just worrying about u!!

crunchy how long hav u been waiting for your AF to arrive?? i am only on day 20 and my cycle is usually between 29 - 31 days so not gonna get my hopes up with my sore nipples ha ha!! Will wait to see if AF arrives first!! Fingers crossed she doesn't (hmm) What type of dog do you have?? Mine is my baby for the time being!! x
