Hi Dawn I do indeed work for an IT service provider....OMG!!!!

Welcome wishin it's a lovely thread. I do believe that this has become more than just a TTC thread tho.

Now just need to get my ever so talkative colleague off the phone as I need it for a teleconference. I thought it was women that were supposed to be the big talkers!!!!

wishinanhopin · 11/09/2008 12:36

Hi Girls
I'm new here. DH and I TTC for 2 1/2 years. Finished my first ever 5 days of clomid. DH and did all we could in the baby making department, and now the waiting game begins. I'm sure it's rare to conceive on the first round, but I can't help but be hopeful.
Love to see a place where woman can connect in this way. It's lovely.

P.S One of my girlfriends just announced last night she's 13 weeks along. My heart leapt with excitiment and sunk with disappointment all at the same time.

Dawn

Hello - we've not "met" as I'm a newbie ...

But just a thought - I don't know any details of the case of course, but there are laws to protect people from being made redundant without any notice (i.e. protection against unfair dismissal). See this wikipedia article. There are also laws to ensure continuity of employment where one business buys another business - see this wikipedia article.

Is your boss sure he hasn't any redress of this sort? The local ACAS, CAB or free legal advice service should be able to advise.

Best wishes

Hello All,

Again, thanks for all your support.

So, had a chat with the big boss this morning and my colleague and I have been asked to step up and take over our Manager's workload - so I guess it's sort of a promotion, but without the money!! I'm just grateful that I've still got a job - for now...

Saz, we've just been bought by a major player in our field too, maybe we work for the same company... If it's anything to do with being an IT services provider, maybe it is the same place...

Vix, you are in the right place to moan about that. I can't believe how 14 and 15 year olds get pregnant the first time they have sex - how is that fair?!! But hang on in there girl - the wait will make your baby all the more loved....

Summer, I received the book this morning, thanks hun. With everything that happened yesterday, I didn't get time to get out, but it is packaged up ready to go. Will be sending DH out with it later!!

Hope all Beans are Ok and that everyone is looking forward to Friday, I know I am. We're also doing a second viewing on the house on Saturday and taking my Mum and Dad to have a look too!!

xxx

Vix67 · 11/09/2008 11:47

p.s. think that might have been one of the longest posts ever ha ha

Vix67 · 11/09/2008 11:45

Morning Ladies,

Hope you're all well!!

Dawn I am so sorry for your boss, our company has just made 10 people redundant yesterday. some of the men are in a similar position as your boss, long service, family to look after, etc.. I really hope that this has happened for a reason and it may change his life for the better!! Try not to worry too much, easy enough said I know!!

Bumps Welcome to our lovely thread!! Mettalic taste is a def sign of being PG, so will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Fairywing so sorry about your AF but great that your feeling positive ... pass some onto me will you?!

BSL hope that your DH swimmers are OK, fingers crossed for next week.

Summerbird have you filled in your application form yet??

Bubbap welcome back from your hols, great news that your little bean is coming on well!!

Big HELLO to everyone else!!

I am feeling a bit down today, think the fertility tablets I am taking are making my hormones all over the place. I have just found out that one of my friends is PG, and she is having a termination. She hasnt got a great track record with men and tends to sleep around quite alot, and she has fell pregnant!! I just feel that itis so unfair at the moment how can people just fall pg so easily and then just get rid of it and then there are all of us who are desperate for a baby and its not so easy!!

Sorry for the rant!! My DP is away too until Friday and think we should have been BDing Tues / Wed this week and we havent been able to!!

Anyway sorry for the moan and hope i havent depressed you all!!

On a brighter note it's Friday tomorrow woo hoo!! xx

saz007 · 11/09/2008 10:29

A voluntary redundancy exerise is underway (again) in my company at the minute. We've just been acquired by a major player in our field, so it's a bit uncertain over here.

Linwin is the movie good? I'm torn between going to see it or just waiting for the dvd release

AF is still a no show. It was funny yesterday but my tummy felt like I'd been on loads of rollercoasters, not feeling sick as such, just a bit flip-floppy if that makes any sense!!!! Also, my mouth wouldnt stop watering - most peculiar

Linwin · 11/09/2008 09:37

Hi everyone.

Dawn I know how you worried you must be right now, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm in the same boat. Its worrying times for a lot of people I think. I make about twice as much as DH and we just bought our first flat last year right at the top of the market so we're worried sick. All my friends are the same. But, as everyone has said already sometimes its can turn out to be an opportunity and as my mum says, they can't take your hands off you...whatever that means!
All I know is that I'm not going to give up TTC because of I'm scared of whats going on in the market place - if anything it makes family and health even more important.

Hi to everyone else. Went to see that movie The Duchess last night - my god that girl can pout!

Have a good day

xxxxx

saz007 · 11/09/2008 09:07

OMG Dawn what a shocking way for your boss to be treated I just don't know what else to say, I'm speechless

And truly sorry about the BFN Hopefully the bacardi breezer helped a little?

How's everyone doing today? One day closer to the weekend

summerbird · 11/09/2008 08:49

gosh dawn i feel so sorry for your boss, that is a terrible way to treat any employee never mind one who has given them such long service. i truly hope that this will happen for a reason for him and he gets something bigger and better.

i am on CD15 and still no OV pains which is odd for me as i am usually OVing on circa CD12. Am not concerned yet though.

Off on yet another training course today so see you guys later

DawnAS · 11/09/2008 07:45

Hey ladies,

Thanks so much for your support. I think it's hit me more overnight to be honest, but not about me, more my boss. I only saw him face-to-face twice as we work remotely, but he was such a great guy who only got over cancer last year. He's got two kids that he's trying to put through Uni and his wife doesn't work. He's been with the company 37 years.

Anyway, Hever, just a word of advice (about your stupid Doc...), because I'm on a 35 day cycle, my Mum told me to make sure they understood that. The main reason being that when you start going for scans etc, they'll keep going on about the baby being too small and stuff and thinking there's something wrong. So I suggest that when you see the MW, you put her/him (don't know any male midwives but you never know...) right. Mum was quite worried about that with me because she had very long cycles aswell (sometimes 6 or 7 weeks) and they made her first pregnancy hell by worrying all the time.

Thanks again ladies! In the absence of wine last night, I had a Watermelon Bacardi Breezer!! . Didn't numb the worry though, just gave me a headache!!

xxx

heverhoney1 · 10/09/2008 22:35

{{{{{{DAWN}}}}}}} Summer is right though.

Just to let you know I am still here lurking away. I find it quite difficult posting from my phone and acessing MN at work is a little dodgy as no body knows about the bub yet. But I am still here looking out for you ladies!!

My doc is stupid and doesnt understand that I am NOT 8 weeks gone as I didnt ov till day 29!!! I am only 6+4 but she wouldnt listed - infact didnt even want to hear it. I swear if I had caught first time after not having a cycle for 18 months she would have put me down as 80 months gone!!!

bluestarlavender · 10/09/2008 22:35

Dawn - I am so sorry, hun!! You sound like you're going through the wringer at the minute! That's awful about your boss and colleague! I can't believe that's any way to treat an employee.

But don't worry about you just yet...it sounds like if you were also up for redundancy it would have happened today. I know it's easier said than done though.

I am also sorry about the BFN!! I know it feels rubbish!

summerbird · 10/09/2008 20:36

first of all ladies dont tell me off for bein on MN - but am having a break and dawn needs some tlc!!

god dawn that is terrible, first of all your poor boss having that experience this morning! i am really sorry to hear that but typically you dont know what is around the corner at work, you might get kept on (if psychic lady is anything to go by!)

to put it into perspective, DH got made redundant at xmas (office shutting down in Manchester) and he did some contract work with the NHS for a few months before they took him on permanent and now he is being headhunted from another dept for promotion.

now i say all this to make the point that sometimes these things happen for a reason, is it conceivably possible that you could even get a promotion out of this? my lickle sister works for Northern Rock as a PA to one of the directors and both she and her boss got promoted together after we were all worrying about her losing her job.

i am keeping my fingers crossed that this all works out for you, is crap about the BFN but again in a months time you may have more stability at work and feel a little more settled.

easy for me to say but try not to worry too much and given the BFN i think you deserve a glass of vino!

take care x

DawnAS · 10/09/2008 19:26

Hey all,

Sorry to bring the mood down but I've come on here to have a good moan - so apologies in advance .

Our company was bought-out by another big company a couple of weeks ago and today, out of the blue, my boss got given a compromise agreement. Basically Compulsory Redundancy but with no notice. They turned up at his house this morning and took his work phone, laptop, printer, everything. Another one of our team has had the same thing happen. So I really don't know where this is heading. I'm paid a really good salary (putting it into perspective, about £20k more than I would get if I did the same job down in Devon) and work from home, but if I lost my job, I'd have to drop by loads to get a job down here. And we're supposed to be buying our first house and have seen something we like. So this couldn't have come at a worse time. My boss was so great aswell, was so caring and considerate when I had the MC and I just have no idea (if I'm lucky enough to keep my job) who I will be working for. I'm so upset.

On top of that, I really thought I was still PG as AF only lasted about a day and wasn't very heavy. Boobs are really sore and loads of twinges and loads of odd aches and twinges "down there". Not quite cramping, but definitely odd twinges. So I used my free Clearblue PG test after lunch today and it was negative. I guess that's a good thing though in these uncertain times.

Now when I went to see that Psychic lady, she told me that there would be massive changes at work but that I would be fine and would always have a job with them if I wanted one. But I just can't seem to stop worrying

Sorry to be such a moaner!!

Anyway, yes, Fairytale of New York is the best Xmas song, actually my Dad and my Sister (who is a professional singer) sing it really well!! I always request it by them at Xmas.

Me
xx

summerbird · 10/09/2008 18:59

hoorah bubba welcome back, i am really excited for you too, even reading your symptoms got me all giddy (not in the same way as you though!)

right if anyone catches me on here tonight then tell me off as i am supposed to be completing my application form!

saz007 · 10/09/2008 16:36

Hey BubbaP good to have you back and glad to hear you had a good relaxing holiday!

Also, glad to hear that the scares turned out ok.

Soo excited for you so I'm glad it's feeling real now

BubbaP · 10/09/2008 16:32

Hello ladies

Hope you're all well!!

Arrived back from our hols in the early hours of this morning so I'm having a lazy day with my DH and our little bean!

We had a lovely relaxing holiday despite two minor scares: spotting became slightly heavier after the flight out, and then I thought I had food poisoning on the last day. Turns out that it was the start of the morning sickness!

I didn't really 'feel' PG at all until about 48 hours ago, but now there's no mistaking the symptoms - nausea, bloated feeling and heart burn!! I've hardly eaten anything over the last day and a half.

Back to work tomorrow and hoping I can keep my PG quiet as I'm feeling so rough!

I've also had my 1st appointment with the midwife confirmed for 2 weeks time! It all feels very real now!

Hugs to all those whose AFs have arrived and fingers crossed for some BFPs this month!!

summerbird · 10/09/2008 11:01

saz i am sooo with you on the best xmas song ever. i once did that on karaoke with a bloke i went to school with. the irony was i have red hair (a la kirsty) and he was completely hammered (a la pogues), it was hysterical. best song ever.

i am in a good mood too and have no idea why! DH is going out tonight so i have the house to myself to finally complete that application form.

happy days

saz007 · 10/09/2008 10:24

fairywing i know exactly how you feel as i was v upset last month but a bit more philosophical this month, well done you and keep up the optimism

saz the antibiotics is a classic and people dont usally like to press you on it in case it is a bad case of thrush or something however your cover may be blown if your mates are onto it from last year. maybe you could try saying you have a hangover from the night before? and if you are with them for two nights you could just take it easy on day two...? will ponder with you
