Hi Pinkie,

Am going to use OPKs this month the clear blue digital ones and they specfically say that you can use them with Clomid.

Feeling Very tired at the mo and supposed to start BDing tonite what fun realy have not got the energy. i'll have to lay back and tell him to get on with it. he he.

Vix67 · 22/10/2008 12:29

Hi everyone,

Been following the thread for a while now, i am on clomid also.

Pinkie i have been on clomid for 3 months, and every month i have charted my temperature with a Basal Body Thermometer and used OPK sticks. And the OPK sticks have been spot on every month. They have only ever showed 2 lines about 2 / 3 days before i actually ovulated. I know the day of when i ovulated because temperature goes up the day after i ovulated. So in my experience they have helped me pin point when i am going to ovulate. Still waiting for a BFP!!
I have also spoken to my doctor about using OPK sticks whilst on clomid and hehas never said not to use them.

I buy my opk sticks off the internet and i pay about £12 for 50 so its not too much money to be forking out.

Hope this helps , good luck and loads of baby dust to you xx

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 11:15

Hi attila

I dont seem to ovulate and have low progesterone which in turn means start spotting 4 days before AF arrives which created short LP.

Last month on clomid was ok exhausting and overheating were only two side effects and blood test results came back really good so thats encouraging.

The acupuncture has got rid of the overheating so not complaining and there doesnt seem to be anything negative about using it alongside clomid.

You seem really well informed, have you been on it do you have experience with it.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 11:02

Hi pinkie08,

Ok so yes to the acupuncture if you think it helps but no also to any notion of timing of intercourse (you'll wear yourselves out and the man can end up feeling used). Timing of intercourse is particularly bad news - it is all too easy to get the ovulation date.

Do you have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 10:57

Ok so no to the OPKs - but maybe a yes to the acupuncture and following the every other day (but every day for next few ) which should be ovulation time??

What do you think

and thanks for your help

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 10:48

OPK's work on two misleading principles - namely that a rise in LH is followed by ovulation and that women only have one rise in LH every month. Both are not true.

They are certainly of no use if clomid is being taken to make the ovaries work harder (this is clomid's main job).

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 10:37

Hi AttilaThemeerkat

i hear you but am worried that LH surge isnt happening as not had a +ive yet so now obsessed and cant seem to stop using them. Shouldnt i be getting false +ives (its all too confusing for me)

am going to bd next few days and then get back to every other. What do you think??

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 10:29

Hi Pinkie08

Please do NOT use opk's at all if you're taking clomid (clomid encourages LH production so can give false readings) or especially if PCOS is an issue.

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 09:54

HI Vics

Rang the consultant and he said not to worry unless persistent well it went by that night so not too worried

OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) still not gone +ive which is strange but acupunture this afternoon so maybe that will push it on.
On clomid if you are using them meant to start 5/6 days after last pill.

If it never does will be ringing consultant for blood tests as he said he didnt think needed it this month as result was so promising last month.

Are you having your blood tests and scans?

krumbockmummy dont be despondent we are all going through the same thing together. I have found that everyone on here keeps everyone going, although we all have our down moments there is always someone to pick you up.

Lots of baby dust to you all

Lorelei97 · 21/10/2008 22:49

Hi krumbockmummy- have been on clomid now for 4 cycles- have pcos and tend to have lengthy waits in between. i was pregnant in july 07 but m/c and didnt have a period for 6 months after that. I am just a random poster on this site but there are a lot of people here who understand what you have been through and are going through every month when nothing happens- it is devastating. aside from the disappointment i could go on a 6 month around the world trip on the money I have spent on home pregnany tets!!! aarggh i hate them. i have been pregnant twice before, both mc, but remember that feeling so clear of seeing the blue lines appear. i keep wishing for that same thing to happen every time i pee but nothing- is sad. however one thing ive learned from the very strong women on this site is not to give up hope! good luck krumbockmummy and stay on mumsnet!

krumbockmummy · 21/10/2008 22:33

Hi

first time on this site, been taking clomid 50mg for 5 mths now. fell preg 1st time but miscarried early on. getting very down at the moment need a support group? i am only 23 have a 3 year old daughter was a big shock when we tried for over a year and nothing happened. got told i have early pcos. every one around me seems to be falling preg so cant really talk to any one about it. i am also the first one out of my friend group to get married and have a child so been alone for a while. i hate this waiting game every mth you get your hopes up only to see that hts say negitive.
it would be great to chat to other women on clomid!

Vics32 · 21/10/2008 17:28

Hi all,

Finally started on clomid Sunday, only side effects so far are a few hot flushes and cramping. Not so bad touch wood.

I was wondering what OPK's are??

Hoping everyone is OK. Good luck with all tests and hoping for some more successes.

Vic x

pinkie08 · 21/10/2008 11:11

Hi nandos

dont give up hope for this month its not over til its over.

And i always think that it has to happen to us eventually it has to be our turn.

Heebee how long were you on clomid for and did you use OPKs at the same time.

Baby dust to all

nandos · 21/10/2008 01:01

Hi Heebee
congrats on your BFP! its nice to hear clomid successes
Clairebear, good luck this month, hopefully you get your BFP too..
hi pinkie, yeah the clomid side effect-heatiness is really uncomfortable, its good that you got it sorted out ..
as for me, i just dont feel its my month and am not keeping my hopes up..

Tigresswoods · 20/10/2008 19:14

Had my blood test!!!! Managed to relax enough for them to take the blood. Booked in appointment in couple of weeks when all results should be back. Think it will be a PCOS diagnosis. Hopefully this will mean Clomid + lovings = little tiger cub!

clairebear88 · 20/10/2008 15:57

Hi

Thats great news Heebee well done
Always good to hear the positives about clomid. I have just had my first reflexology so thought I would try that for a while then go onto accupunture if that doesnt work.
Well im on cd21 today and was pretty active last week ( if ya no what i mean ). Im just hoping i get that bfp next week as its my last month of clomid. Still got all my tests next month and waiting for results of last weeks scans.

I hope all is ok pinkie

Tigress - I know how you feel as it would be easier if something was wrong so they knew how to put it right. Very annoying not knowing as you feel like your DP is shooting into the dark ( litrally ) Good luck with your tests

pinkie08 · 20/10/2008 14:03

Isnt it totally amazing.

The clomid made me really hot and not in a good way and the acupuncture has sorted that. Am still getting slight waves of heat but nothing like before.

Apparently in chinese medicine they believe clomid works better if the yin and yang are well balanced and the yin is the whole heating thing.

She also said she wanted me back around ovulation which is wednesday so will see what she says. I find the whole thing amazing.

Heebeejeebee · 20/10/2008 13:56

That's a relief!

Well I went to acupunture once a week and she would ask me about what stage of my cycle I was on when I was there. However, the reason I stopped was because I was thinking about going to a fertility specialist (mine was a general chinese acupuncture shop) because I'd noticed on a couple of websites that, if you were having IVF, they wanted to see you twice a week around implantation... Its amazing what they can tell though - at one stage she told me that my progesterone levels were back to normal?!

pinkie08 · 20/10/2008 13:49

Hi all

Thanks Heebeejeebee rang the consultant and they said its fine only get in touch if its prolonged or got pain.

I started acupuncture last week and was feeling really positive about it am def going to continue with it.

How often were you going?
were you making sure it coinicided with certain dates

Heebeejeebee · 20/10/2008 13:16

Hi all

Pinkie - that's strange. I've not heard of spotting before (but everything else seems to be a side effect!). Did you get clomid from your hospital? It might be worth giving them a call?

Nandos - I really hope AF stays away..

Bit of news from me - I got a bfp last Wednesday! It was my first cycle of clomid, and I used preseed and drank grapefruit juice too.

My slight concern is that my consultant was going to change me to tamoxifen because my scan showed my uterine lining could be thicker, but I hoping that it wasn't terribly thin..

I had acupunture since my m/c in jan (though ironically stopped in September) but I know it encourages blood flow to the uterus which should help counter the fact that clomid thins the uterine lining?

pinkie08 · 20/10/2008 11:33

Hi

Does anyone know anything about mid cycle bleeding on cd11 while on clomid.

Have got bright red spotting today OPK was
-ive yesterday should i expect a +ive result this afternoon. Should i be worried??

Phoenix · 20/10/2008 10:02

Did any of you take Clomid ttc DC1 and get it again for DC2 that could help me out here

Tigresswoods · 20/10/2008 07:41

Hello girls, I'm fairly new here. Dr thinks I have PCOS. Had my internal last week and having blood test today. This all cam about when I came off of Dianette at Christmas and found I didn't really have a proper period since.

Went to see Dr last month and went through it all. Told him about spots on back (new), excess facial heair (not new) and lack of periods.

Been TTC since Christmas and am only in my 20's so wondered why it was taking so long.

Anyway, kind of hoping I do have PCOS as it would answer the question as to why it hasn't happened yet.

Big problem though, terrified of needles and have to have the blood test this morning. Am psyching myself up this at the moment to have it.

Will no doubt be back on here later to share my experience!

nandos · 20/10/2008 03:37

Hmm, there seems to be a lot of things we girls try to do if month after month it fails isnt it.
We did with preseed but just with 1 this month cos' due to travelling, my hubby just brought one from home..lol.
My AF still hasnt come yet still 2-3 more days. Am not testing till im late cos' i just think its gonna come soon and now my whole bbs are paining so AF is imminent
