wuhooooo!!!!!! how glad am i that i asked for a second opinion. Finally i win my battle to be allowed to try clomid. and alsofind that at this other hospital the ivf/iui waiting list is only 18months and not the 3 yrs at the other one, yeah!!! not that im hoping we get that far. i dont have pcos but am hoping it still has some effect as some research ive done says it should help.

hey ray dont think we've spoken before but ive tried preseed and im affraid to say it did nothing for us. but hey everyones different.

omg im am so happy someone is finally taking me seriously and doing something about it. The only way i will be happy is to get my bfp in the next few months.

HI Ray

I am on Cd15 today and the OPK went +ive yesterday afternoon so am following the sperm meets egg plan and am just into the 3days bit then day off then once again.

Its a funny old world i said this the other day. We wait for one stick to go +ive only to need to wait another 2weeks in the hope of another.

I did find the 4 hour thing hard but i timed it so after lunch went and then didnt have another drink til after opk test.

I got worried too but remember your blood tests for day 21 progesterone came back good so theres no reason for it not to be working.

We both need to stay positive for each other and hopefully we will get a BFP together.

The most common tests that tend to be omitted are:-

Adequate x-rays of the uterus which may show abnormalities not otherwise seen at laparoscopy.

Hysteroscopy - telescope inspection of the inside of the uterus which may occasionally show abnormalities not seen otherwise

Repeated sperm counts over several weeks and months to make sure there is no subtle abnormality

Testing the sperm in special media such as swim up testsvelocity testing. However, when they are done, they often uncover a hidden cause for the suppposed unexplained problem

Thorough hormone tests to detect abnormalities of male hormone or early falls in progesterone

Scanning of the ovaries to see if follicles really are developing and there are no sign of polycystic ovaries.

"The thing i was thinking is that DH has high sperm count and there is nothing wrong with me have had all the tests and still nearly 5 yrs later and nothing is working"

Why were you prescribed clomid?. I ask this as this is often given to women with underlying ovulatory problems. Also it goes without saying as well that monitoring should be done as without monitoring you have no way of knowing whether its working or not.

What tests have you both had done to date?.
Some tests can often be missed out besides which any test result done over six months ago should be discounted. It may be that you have both not had all the necessary tests done at all. Sometimes as well people are given the "diagnosis" (I use quote marks as this is not a diagnosis at all) of unexplained subfertility simply because both parties have not been adequately investigated.

Will separately put up a list of tests that are commonly missed. These can often give a cause for the hidden problem.

ray81 · 24/10/2008 13:07

Hi Pinkie,

No i dont ever remember it being a problem when i had my DD either (7yrs ago) but have heard it being mentioned a few times in the last few months.

The thing i was thinking is that DH has high sperm count and there is nothing wrong with me have had all the tests and still nearly 5 yrs later and nothing is working. I'm going to give the clomid its 6 months and if nothing will go to the docs and see if i can get tested for it just to be sure. better to rule everything out i suppose.

The hot flushes are realy bad this month happening about every half an hr which is awful i'm normally such a cold person so takes alot of getting used to.

How you getting on where are you in cycle now ? did you do the sperm meets egg plan ? how was it shattering !!!! i'm on CD 10 today so start the OPKs going to find it very hard not to pee for 4 hrs but they say to do it afternoon as the LH surge normally happens during the day but what a nitemare.
I know im not OV at the mo thought as i get pain when i do and so far no pain. Pobably be on CD17 again so have a while to wait.

pinkie08 · 23/10/2008 17:01

Hi Ray

I had much worse flushes this month, been requlated by the acupuncture and not too bad at all now still abit but nothing like before.

To be honest i think the CM thing is a new vibe around conception i dont remember it even being in discussion when i had dd (8 yrs ago) and i was suffering with recurrent miscarriages so got tested for loads of different things.

I think the whole CM thing is being blown out of proportion just relax itll be fine but def. think the preseed helps loads of people have used it and got the BFP and to be honest i dont care what i use to get it so long as we get it and it sticks of course

ray81 · 23/10/2008 13:28

Hi Pinkie,

I have been looking at preseed and wondering whether to try it. Think that would be the decider as understand it helps the sperm to mobilise and live longer if it was to work surely that would be an indication that there was something wrong with my CM.

Getting realy Hot flushes this month much worse then last month so am hoping that it is a sign that the clomid is doing its job well.

Heres hoping ay.

pinkie08 · 23/10/2008 12:45

Hi Ray

I think hostile CM is very rare without the clomid and think its one of the rarest side effects of clomid.

You have to bare in mind even with the odd few that do suffer with hostile CM clomid is a highly succesful drug. You will get there we all will.

Have a look at product called preseed. Its meant to be used as lubricant but also has same properties as natural CM and think is meant to help those swimmers swim

Phoenix · 23/10/2008 12:13

pinkie08 · 23/10/2008 11:48

Ray Thats good Re pain in shoulder.

I seem to have tired days and normal active days too and am sure mood swings is part of the whole thing as everyone seems to have them. .

maybe we are just giving in to really bad PMT which we would normally not do.

Vics32 · 23/10/2008 09:33

Hi girls,

A down day today Doc says mood swings are not part of clomid side effects?! I am hoping they are. I have one grumpy DP and DS today because of me. I look like a bullfrog with the amount of crying going on!

Hopefully it will be worth it. (Not looking forward to that 2WW every month either Vics67.)

Love and hugs to all

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 18:14

Hi all,

I think that we all need to remember that clomid is a powerful drug and has been usedt by the docs/consultants for over 30 years, they know what they are doing prescribing it and we should trust them

There are loads of BFPs on this thread that have arrived from the use of clomid and although in some circumstances it is not viable or appropriate there is (hopefully) another solution.

VICS i didnt realise it was a symptom either when it first started happening put it down to stress of moving and planning the wedding. You were right to let docs know when you have pain. Its better to be safe than sorry. I got the same response when had abit of spotting the other day.

Lots of baby dust to you all

Vix67 · 22/10/2008 18:14

Hi pinkie

I have temped for the last few months, and i find it really helps to pinpoint the exact day you ovulate.

Some people's temp may go down slightly just before ovulation and then your temp rises once you have ovulated. But not everyone will get a dip in temp. That's why i find it useful to use opk sticks , as they show when i am about to ovulate and then my temp charts confirm that i have ovulated ( with the temp rise ).

It is a pain to take your temp, cos u have to take it at the same time every morning, before you get out of bed, etc.. I set my alarm every morning for 06.00am take my temp , make a note and then go back to sleep!! But i think its definetley worth it, because after doing it for a few months i can see a constant pattern in my temps, and my ov day is always D15.

I am going to start acupuncture when i get back from my hols, hoping this will help!!

My blood tests show that the clomid is working, my dp's sperm is fine but i do have mild endometriosis. But i have had no symptoms of this since starting clomid. I am just praying i fall pg soon as i cant bear the 2WW every month!!

Hello to everyone else and good luck to all xx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 17:43

I was not suitable to take it due to my very high LH levels (the cons gynae said it would not help me as clomid encourages production of LH). I have the classic LH/FSH imbalance associated with this condition.

It should be given to PCOSers with a degree of caution; some PCOSers can become clomid resistant and therefore it should only be used for 6 months. No monitoring whilst on this is a complete no-no - women should be monitored.

Was not ovulating at all - I ended up having ovarian diathermy surgery and this worked.

peju25 · 22/10/2008 17:06

Hi Attila - im quite surprised you have not been given clomid as you have PCOS as this is the reason i was given it
My symptoms with PCOS are weight problems and i dont ovulate so was given clomid to stimulate this. Do you ovulate? Did the dr give you a reason for not giving it?? I was told this is the first step for those of us with PCOS and no ovulation.

Vics32 · 22/10/2008 15:18

Hi all,

PINKIE - I have exactly the same difficulties as you. I do not ovulate,(had an ectopic and cysts removed which caused scarring) and I also have low progesterone which causes spotting 3/4 days before my period. Although I hadn't realised that was what it is!!

ATTILA - PCOS is a difficult thing by the sound of it. I agree with what you say about being monitored during the use of clomid. I had terrible pain during the night and went straight to doc this AM. (Who promptly told me it was nothing and I should stop stressing) Nevertheless, it sounds like clomid can be quite temperamental.

I think I will take my clomid, get scanned on day 10 and have bloods too, and see what happens. I'm not good at measuring sticks and things and tend to get a bit obsessed by it all.

Love to all

Vic x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 14:44

Unfortunately (and thats an understatement) PCOS can be controlled but not fully cured. The cystic follicles on the ovaries associated with this condition always come back.

I had ovarian diathermy surgery just over a decade ago now and was advised that I would need more surgery (I also have endometriosis as well which is widespread). So I haven't had any more children, I am indeed fortunate I am a parent at all.

You may find www.verity-pcos.org.uk to also be helpful.

With best wishes

Attila

Ray

forgot to ask how did it go with pain in shoulder did it fade away

Lots of baby dust to all

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 14:36

Attila

How long have you been trying.

I am sorry that you are suffering with PCOS. What are they doing for you, something i hope. I had it many years ago. and my pregnancy with my DD cured it. This can happen and was told it might. but i have scarring on my ovaries and they dont function well.

My consultant has been doing blood tests and is very happy with the results. i had to go through them for 3 months before he would prescribe the clomid and is now very happy with how its working so not too worried.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/10/2008 14:30

I was not able to take clomid due to me being unsuitable to take it (I have PCOS) but it was mooted as a possibility at one stage. Clomid certainly has its place but it should be given to all patients with a degree of caution (and certainly monitoring).

I would not use temp charts at all if you are taking clomid; its unreliable at best and wrong at worst. You're better off having blood tests done; at least these will give an accurate result of your hormone levels.

If you don't yet have a diagnosis I'd start asking awkward questions to your consultant. Its not ideal to be given a drug treatment without a diagnosis beforehand.

pinkie08 · 22/10/2008 14:20

Hi all,

I have rechecked the info in the clearblue opk instructions and it says they can be used with clomid. Have been to acupuncture and am going to keep testing til afew more days then at least if i never have a +ive i can tell consultant and he can do blood test and we can move on from there.

peju anything over 30 for someone who is on clomid is a good sign.

vix68 i am going to temp next month someone says the temp goes down when ov then goes up after ?? any thoughts on that.
