MOB - ((((((((higs))))))))

Don't worry about being self obsessed round here on the 2WW!!! We all need our turn to vent, and today it happens to be you and for good reason. G*d, how much I have moaned about my DH and all sorts of things?! All the time in my case You've had a big deal piece of news. Once you see the results sheet you will have a better idea of what there is to do. let us know how you get on.

I copied this from the WHO website:

"The following are the usual parameters for a normal semen sample:

Count
More than 20 million sperm/ml

Motility
More than 50% motile

Morphology
More than 50% normal morphology

Semen Volume
2-5 ml

White Blood Cells
Less than 1 million/ml"

The sheet my DH had listed all those things. Unfortunately, his results were not good at all (count of less that 2 million/ml, so around 10% of bare minimum )

Everything crossed for you and your DH re interpretation of the results. If it is any help several of my male friends have (subsequently, after fathering children it has to be said) admitted to having low sperm counts and for conception taking a while. I don't think they were in the same ball park as my Dh though and I didn't want to appear too interested and/or knowledgable with them

ScaryHairy · 14/07/2008 13:53

Oh MOB I hope you're ok. I know "low" doesn't sound great, but you're right; you absolutely do need to find out what that means. And since sperm count and quality can vary so much, it's good that they are repeating the test. I have read that sperm are produced over a 3 month cycle, and so over that period it is possible with careful diet, (and maybe loose pants and cold showers!) to improve count and quality. There might be a bit of info on the Zita West website about that - it's probably worth a look. A big drink sounds like a good idea too - and your post is not self-obsessed at all... it's a big deal what you are dealing with and I expect you to share as much as you need.

Ei it looks like we are going to be cycle buddies again. When do you normally ov? Assuming that today does turn out to be CD1 for me, I will be ovulating when DH and I are in different countries. It's so flipping predictable?

Although my temps have sort of dipped today I haven?t really started bleeding yet and have just had a glob of pink CM so far. Assuming that my temps do fall properly tomorrow and the bleeding starts then all is well (if a bit ). If not then I have to start worrying about another ectopic. DH thinks I am being a big wimp about all this given that statistically CPs are so very common and (which I agree with) I have probably had a few in the past and not even known about it. It's just that this CP coming back-to-back with the ectopic is too much to deal with. I feel absolutely battered and am going to see the GP on Wednesday to see if they can do anything to help. Really I want a referral and a laparoscopy to check my tubes, even though I am terrified of surgery. I am going to start a thread later to find out what I should be asking for. A quickly-scheduled appointment with a consultant seems a good place to start...

Higs to the rest of you, GG, Beanie, Picknmix, Lou, Cairtni and Bucky and anyone I have forgotten. There are enough Higs to go around!

Madoldbird · 14/07/2008 13:44

Thanks GG.

I have spoken to DH briefly and asked him to get hold of a copy of the results. I am working from home today, so i can go and get them, if they will let me with his say so.

I guess the GP is right to say to test again in 2 months, and then decide what to do after that, but at the moment that just seems forever. I suppose its only really 6 weeks though, as it's already over 2 weeks since the test.

I'm not sure how he feels yet, we will talk properly later. I think there is some relief that he is not a "jaffa", which was his greatest worry. I feel shaken and teary - silly really, i know, but it is confirmation that we will be in it for the long haul, and are in the "WIMBEWAINF" club. I feel like we're running out of time. as well, given our ages.

Trouble is, the EWCM started yesterday, and i will ov this week, and it feels like really bad timing when we've just got this news.

All i want is to have DH's child, and for him to be a father. He is a great step-dad, but i want him to experience the joy of having his own child. He's longing for it, and we are both willing to do whatever it takes (IVF etc) but at the moment it seems so far out of our grasp.

I have a feeling we may both need a large drink tonight. So much for my good intentions.

Sorry for such a self-obsessed post

GorgonsGin · 14/07/2008 13:03

MOB - oh no about the results for your DH. How is he feeling and how are you feeling. We're all here for you. I am thinking of you and as someone who went through the same thing about 4 months ago, I know how horrible it can be . You need to find out what "low" means - the results should be divided up into:

Number of sperm per ml (in millions);

Morphology in % (i.e. shape);

Motility in % (speed/agility );

Volume of semen produced (in ml);

There should be a results sheet that the GP was sent. Ask for a copy of that and then check it against the World Health Organisation Guidelines if your GP won't offer any guidance as to what they mean (mine didn't ). GP's use with WHO guidelines too.

Just remember that one sperm test can differ markedly from another, so the GP will suggest a repeat in a few weeks to check if there is any difference. never go one one test alone

Big hello to everyone else. I didn't have much time to post and saw MOB's and didn't want to leave it unanswered. Will post more later and answer you all.

GGx

Hi everyone

GG Wow - at your DH!! It sounds like he's putting lots of effort in. Good for him. Fingers crossed that all this dedication will mean that those swimmers can throw away their zimmers You sound like you are desperate to test, have you??

PnM Good luck to MrPnM for him appt later. I'm sure it will just be a formality, and that he won't have to justify it or anything. When my DH went i gave him a great big list of things to mention about our ttc time, apparently it was a trainee GP he saw, who appreared to find a lot of it "TMI" and handed over the paperwork and pot without saying anything!!!

SH How are things with you? I'm so sorry to hear that you think that this may have been a CP. Of course you are hurting - that is only natural. Have a good cry, if that's what you need. I find i need a really good one every few weeks, to let out all the emotion that ttc brings. I wish i could magically transport myself to wherever you are in RL and give you a good hug.

EI how are you? Did you test? How was the camping & weekend away? Sorry - i am bombarding you with questions!!

I have done a week of the boring diet now! I would have done almost anything for a large glass of chilled white wine last night, but i resisted. I don't drink huge amounts (only have a drink at the weekend) but i do associate relaxing at the weekend with having a drink!!

Oh hell, as i am writing this i have just had a text from DH - he has heard from the dr - apparently the results are "low" and he suggests repeating them in 2 months time. I guess i need to find out what "low" actually means. I don't intend waiting around for 2 months doing nothing.

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 14/07/2008 01:17

hi ladies
hope you are all doing well
scary sorry you think this bean may not stick i hope you are wrong and it is a lovely sticky bean and you get a HUGE BFP over the next day or two
bucky glad you had such a lovely holiday i love love love the wimbewaif club and theme tune it made me laugh so much i may be joining myself as AF arrived in style this morning although it seems like my LP has lengthened slightly to 12 days so every cloud...
caitni how did the move go?? the saying goes new house new baby so i hope this rings true for you as it did for me!! (i bought my first house moved in and found out i was preg after 10 cycles of trying all within 2 weeks of eachother)
hi to MOB GG PnM and everyone else not mentioned by name
xx ei xx

ScaryHairy · 13/07/2008 20:07

Hello

How is the move going Caitni? I hate moving, you have my sympathy.

I hope they haven't been working you too hard, Picknmix. You do sound more cheerful and I am glad you're back on form after last week. Just make sure you send Mr Mix with proper instuctions not to leave without an appointment. I can't believe they make getting a sperm test and getting the results such hard work.

I'm very glad to hear that Mr Gin is stepping up GG. Isn't it really annoying the way men follow instructions when they hear them from the Dr, but if their wives told them what to do it would be in one ear and out the other? Still, am v impressed with the not drinking, the veg and the swimming. Maybe if he does all this you'll get there by yourselves before December.

Bucky I am loving the WIMBEWAIF song too, although I suspect that if I had any tests I would be on the WIMBEWAINF side of the chorus...

The diet sounds very boring MOB, but I am very impressed with your willpower.

Put down that hoover and take it easy, Lou

No good news from here. I have started getting cramps so I guess this bean just never implanted properly. Actually that would be a bright side in itself since if my temps drop off at least I know this is not another ectopic (which I have been very scared about). I didn't drink on Friday because was still getting positive pee-sticks. I had a terribly pale line this morning and a BFN on a digi, so all I can conclude is that it is not sticking. The plus is that now I get to hav belated birthday champagne. I am trying to pull myself together, but this really hurts (emotionally, I mean). I expect I will drink too much and cry a bit, but tomorrow is another day and in a few weeks there will be another egg.

Speak soon.

PicknMix · 13/07/2008 19:24

Been working all weekend so apologies for lack of posts....

How are you doing today SH? Really really sorry to hear you think it might be a cp. How is your dh responding to it?

Thanks for the squeaky clean new thread bucky! But even more thanks for your song suggestion - I literally did laugh out loud when I read it - so much so that Dh asked what I was laughing at and so I got him to read it as well! Sounds like your holiday was fab, am very ! Not so good to hear about the bashed knees tho - sore and so not a good look! It's nice to have you back

Hows the boring healthy diet going Mob? I keep hearing people waxing lyrical about eating a low gi diet so want to do some reading up on that. Always find eating healthily very difficult though, just got too much of a sweet tooth! You're right, my warbling does signify a return to a more positive PnM, although plse keep your fingers crossed that the gp refers my dh for a sperm test tomorrow - if he fails to come back with a test date I shall be back to ranting and raving on here again!

I have husband envy gg - a cup of tea and a dedicated attitude! Its taken a while but really pleased he's taken up the challenge and is so keen to change his chances! I noticed that after I ranted at my dh the other day, he now has a folder on his laptop with sperm related info in it (diets, vits etc). I'm a bit that I've somewhat forced this but it is important for them to take a bit of control!

Hows the move going Caitni?? Hope its all going smoothly so far!

Good to hear you're still feeling comfortable lou, take care of yourself.

Hello to anyone I've missed (hows the camping ei?)

Xx

GorgonsGin · 13/07/2008 10:58

hello all

what a FANTASTIC new thread!! {grin]. i think we shall all be very happy here. Bucky - welcome back, m'dear! We missed you and sorry to hear about the battered knees, although your holiday was lovely. If you need an investor for you quick sperm test business, I'd do it. Rarely was there a greater need for a sevice . I cannot stop laughing at the WIBEWAIF song. in fact it is now buzzing around my head annoyingly . Come an djopin us with the accupuncture. We can compare needle tracks and rate of free flowing qi energy at the next 2WW WIMBEWAIF meet up .

lou - really pleased that the HSG went ok and you are free flowing . It's not very pleasant at the time and does leave you shaky, but i avoided having any nasty after effects.

MOB - must try to do more . I am quite a healthy eater anyway and do exercise, but the demon drink is my problem (well, the odd glass of wine) and I have got fairly fatalistic after 19-20 months of trying and nothing happening. I figured "why should I bother being good when nothing ever happens?" . But DH is putting me to shame . He came back to bed this morning after getting up early. The angel brought me a cup of tea and announced he'd surfed the net for info is also going organic on top of no drinking and always eating at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. He's also gone for a swim . I'm sitting here feeling completelely guilty. It is sort of as I predicted - once my DH gets the bit between his teeth he is amazing for resolve. It just took a while to get his head round everything and now he's gone for it . Good luck tomorrow at the GP - I have everything crossed for you and your DH and sending you plenty higs .

picknmix - that must have been so hard for you . I am fed up with people being to gung ho about babies and fertility. I met a lovely old friend for lunch yesterday and her 10 week old daughter. She is gorgeous but there was lots of "you next!" conversations. Urghhh. I won't correct anyne though, I don't want to discuss it and have people feeling sorry for me or monitoring me.

Scary - I am so disappointed for you . Your husband will be fine for sure. Your time will come, I promise. Hope you are enjoying the sunshine

Ha, ha, I am actially at home this weekend (for once!) and very blissful it is too not to pack/uppack a suitcase. It's the best sort of holiday for me and I am spending lots of time cooking, which I love.

CD25 today for me and getting that itchy fingers feeling when I want to POAS . Even with Dh's sterling efforts, it is a VERY slim chance of a any BFP for me, but somehow I enjoy playing the 2WW game, especially with you ladies. Makes me feel "normal" every month

Must dash. I feel i ought to do some execise after DH's enthusiasm

Madoldbird · 12/07/2008 17:04

Lovely new thread!! Bucky - fantastic name!! And i love the idea that you are going to have stern words with our babies when they eventually get here Great to have you back, by the way, and pleased to hear you had a fantastic time. Sounds like the break did you the world of good. I am avoiding all fun things at the moment - wheat, sugar, caffeine & alcohol. We can be boring together!! I did it a few years ago when i had hormonal problems (not ttc) and it really worked, so i thought i'd give it a go.

Lou glad to hear you feel ok after yesterday, and that you have lovely clear tubes! Make sure you continue to take it easy, though,

SH Sorry about no conclusive news this morning. Do not give up hope yet. As Lou says, we are all strong women, and we are walking alongside each other on this journey. You WILL get there - we will make sure of that!

PnM You sound more like yourself -warbling "happy birthday" It must have been difficult with all the "baby" stuff at that meeting - i suppose people don't realise they are rubbing it in, but it's very painful all the same.

GG have you disappeared on another exotic trip???

caitni i hope it is going well today. Thinking of you with your head in a box, no doubt!

Hello to everyone else not mentioned! Right, better go and cut the grass...

loustillwantsaBFPtoo · 12/07/2008 08:55

hi girls -
nice new thread!
feeling good today, slightly uncomfortable but nothing i cant handle...
However, the lady at the hospital said to take it easy today, so that is what i am going to do! (im sure that included not filling/emptying dishwasher, hoovering, dusting, tidying of any kind etc... )

scary i am thinking of you. Sorry things are crappy at the mo. It's not over till the evil witch comes though...
Your DH will understand, you are in this together. I know it's so hard, but we are strong women, and we can cope with anything!

ScaryHairy · 12/07/2008 06:40

Hi Ladies

Love the new thread, and there is cake too which makes it pretty much perfect!

Lou I am glad it went ok and you have pristine tubes too. Hope you've recovered today.

bucky hooray for good holidays, but it's nice to have you back.

picknmix grrr at your boss. Even if you weren't ttc, that sort of coversation sounds both boring and annoying to me!

Hello to everyone else.

I am in a foul mood. I did 2 more tests this morning - 1 neg and one so pale it could hardly be seen. I think I have to conclude that this was a CP . I guess I was just being stupid to think it could be that easy. I don't know how I am going to tell my husband.

Caitni · 11/07/2008 21:47

Bucky I was PSML at your WIMBEWAIF club - I am now humming the theme song...so so glad you had a fab holiday though terrible about your knees! Now back to packing for procrastinating old me [scuttles off to pack more boxes]
