hi ladies
sorry i havent been around at all this week it been a bit hectic with work and i have done quite a bit of overtime as we are a bit skint at the mo aswell
i have decided that it is a good thing that i have a 'diagnosis' as it gives me an explaination for my troubles i suppose and now i know about it i can do something about it my first mission is weightloss which is going well (11lbs up to now and i only have another million to go- yes thats right ladies i am a millionaire when it comes to poundage) and i have started OPKs aswell as temping so its all gone quite technical TTCing around here i have decided that it is totally necessary to try not to obsess and not get upset if it doesnt happen for us yet as my consultant helpfully pointed out that excess weight holds oestrogen and convinces your body that you dont need to ovulate and therefore hinders ttc!! i already knew his but it was a bit of a shock to the mind when it is pointed out delicately by a very nice consultant! i thought the outfit i had on that day was quite flattering but maybe not ahh well enough about me
MOB its so amazing that you are on the verge of making a medical miracle in your womb i am a huge supporter of IVF and think it is such an amazing process!! im so excited for you
judith ignore that stupid zita west!! if her reckonings are right there would be no babies born in july/august/september/october!! in this country! you WILL have your fabulous new year BFP!! and you will have a beautiful baby by this time next year!! i can feel it in my bones!! (and you know im psychic!!)
ready i hope you get your answer soon
caitni good on you taking control of your body i am rather hopeful for you this cycle
UT hope you are doing well and youre not wearin g yourself out working too much
PnM im glad you have finally got your date to get your plaster off make the most of the next week and get your DH to pamper you silly as mark my words that as soon as your plaster is off your DH will get a mysterious man-illness and will need pampering
hi to anyone else i may have missed or who is lurking
xx ei xx

JudithGin · 28/09/2008 15:02

damn, I just wrote out a big long post and lost it . Hello to everyone who didn't make it into my post due to DH's rubbish computer!!

will pop in later and post again (don"t have time now)

JudithGin · 28/09/2008 15:01

MOB - yes, the IVF thing in the winter isn't ideal.I would be interested in statistics asto why it isn't ideal and whether that is bourne out. All IVF clinics seem to shut down for Dec, so it was either Oct/Nov or Jan/Feb or putting it off until April/May, which isn't an option on the NHS or worth waiting six months for to go private,so we are where we are. I'll just have to eat a lot of soup, cassaroles and other warming food, wrap up warm and keep the heating set on "tropical" 24 hours a day much to DH's annoyance

We got read the info pack from the Hammersmith hospital today together- they advocate accupuncture to men in their kit so DH is "thinking about it". I think I can persuade him that he wants to do it by waving medical literature at him .

readyfornum2 · 26/09/2008 09:10

Hi all ,
Well still no af and another bfn this morning.

I have accepted the fact that I am definately not pregnant im just concerned about what my body is upto!
I have made an appointment with the doc but its not until the 15th october

From what I have read on the internet it could take a few months for my periods to settle down now I have lost weight! Its typical really I only lost the weight so that I could have a healthier pregnancy this time and instead I have managed to screw my body up

I really wish I hadnt bothered!
I doubt I will be around now because there is no point trying to concieve at the moment.

Good luck to everyone and I hope you all get those BFPs soon x x

TheUNITUBER · 26/09/2008 08:04

Oh my, MOB I had no idea the IVF was so soon. How flipping exciting. Hopefully this time next year we will all be cyber aunties to a little chick (or 2. Are they going to put 2 embryos back?).

Yes, come and at least read the bitter and twisted thread (although you will soon be spending time on the AN threads I hope). It is quite theraputic, I think. I do hate those threads about "tee hee aren't we fertile" but most of all the ones I really hate are the "how do we conceive a girl/boy" ones. FGS just be happy with what fate gives you, you fools!

Am workign already (grr) so must get back to it. Take care and hi everyone else.

Madoldbird · 26/09/2008 07:18

Morning ladies

An apology from me as well for a couple of days absence - damn work getting in the way!!

Unituber Can completely understand you not wanting to be on the ttc threads too much - but don't ever stay away too long - we miss you!!! Sometimes it can all be a bit too much though can't it, especially when you happen on one of those "we've been trying for 3 months and i'm so depressed it's taking this long" threads (or even worse, a "we used a condom, pill and cap but we're so fertile we're pregnant" threads) Hey - perhaps i need to pop over to the bitter & twisted thread as well

JG I'm really concerned about that ivf in winter thing now - my egg collection / tranfer is likely to be in the first week of November Perhaps we'll both just have to prove the silly woman wrong.

Caitni fingers crossed for you on this 2ww. Also for the not drinking this weekend. It's something i always find hard too - but you will feel so good when you wake up on Sunday morning knowing you didn't touch a drop!

PnM I love Jersey zoo - we were there in the spring. I bought Gerald Durrell's autobiography there, but haven't read it yet. Did you visit any of the castles? (Perhaps not with your mobility problems...) Bet you can't wait for the plaster to come off! Will you need any physio? Thinking about adoption is a big step. (But an exciting one) As you say, it may be an easier decision once the SA is done. Waiting times for SS assessments seem horrendous though - DH is planning to adopt my 2 DC, so he is their parent and not step parent, and we have been waiting over 6 months to hear about an assessment. My hypno CD is good, thanks, although the woman's voice is annoying in that "i'm trying so hard to have a relaxing, hypnotic voice" kind of way. She tells me to imagine my ovaries full of light, and a luscious uterine lining . it's very relaxing though.

Bucky I think it is a good thing that "old bucky" resurfaced!!! It's so important to relax and have fun. Have you got a riotous weekend planned ??!

RFN2 Any news yet? It all sound very frustrating. If your periods have changed from how they normally are, then a trip to the doc sounds like a good plan. All that weight loss (which is fantastic BTW!) may well have caused a few hormonal imbalances. I read more and more about weight & hormones being linked, so it may be that your body needs a bit of time to adjust. Have you thought about something like reflexology or acupuncture. I have reflexology, which really helped get my cycle back to normal after coming off the pill, and several ladies here lust after visit an acupuncturist

EI how are you? I'm concerned as you haven't been about for a few days. Hope you are ok and coming to terms with the news earlier this week.

Well I am just awaiting my period so i can start the ivf! I've got awful PMT, so it can't be far off. I've said some awful things to DH this week, including telling him that i only want to go through one cycle of IVF, as i don't want to to dominate my life for months on end. He is devastated, as he wants to give it 3 goes, so we stand more of a chance of it working. I don't think i meant it really, but already IVF is dominating any work arrangements or social plans, and we haven't even started yet. We are going to have a good chat later and clear the air.

Caitni · 25/09/2008 17:01

Hi ladies,

JG I think UniT and PnM have given some good advice. Zita West says that the warmth thing is important - comes from accupuncture I think (in fact, was it you who mentioned that Mr Needles gives you some sort of heating thing for your abdomen during accupuncture??).

PnM Oh I was giggling at the idea of taking one of those carts around the Zoo - your good ol' mum taking care of you like that . We never made it to that Stansted House food festival that time - the rain was just too comedy heavy! Glad to hear we didn't miss much . And only a week to go til you get the plaster off - woo hoo!!

Readyfornum2 god, I hate when our bodies play these mind games with us! While I'm still hopeful it means that there's a BFP waiting for you [hopeful emoticon], perhaps it could just be your body settling back into a routine after having a baby and losing weight. Either way, a trip to the doctor's may be a good idea xxx

Bucky hope you're not too tired from all this schlepping to Leeds and back! And don't feel so bad about letting your hair down a bit - it's important to stay as relaxed as possible, so if that means the odd bit of vino now and again then so be it. Having said that, I'm now on week 1 of a 4 month alchohol-free & caffeine-free & vitamin-y kick recommended in Marilyn Glenville's book Natural Solutions to Infertility. I'm kind of dreading the lack of alchol . I didn't go mad last Friday (it was my trial run ) but I've got a party for one of my best friend's 30th this Sat and it's going to be a challenge (to say the least!). My DH is convinced I'll crack and have a G&T or 5 but I'm determined to give it ago, despite the fact excessive drinking is a large part of the social life of most of my friends. Stupidly, I'm worried what people will think - some know we're ttc and some don't. I also haven't told any of them about the early MC, which has prompted this whole health drive, and don't really want to get into it on a night when we should all just be having a laugh...but yet am convinced the ones who know will be looking at each other knowingly (along the lines of "ooh caitni's not drinking, we know what that means wink wink) and the idea of them thinking that makes me feel so bad. Gah! Am sure it'll be fine...

Waves to Ei UniT MOB 07MTW and anyone I may have missed xx

caitni xx

readyfornum2 · 25/09/2008 07:05

Hi all x
Well TEW is definately trying to play mind games with me! She still hasnt shown up and its cd32
I did another test yesterday morning and it was BFN so I am not really sure what is going on
The last 2 months I have not really had a proper af just spotting which I put down to my weight loss but now I am starting to get a bit concerned and think maybe a trip to the docs is in order

Hope everyone else is ok x

Bucky2008 · 24/09/2008 22:28

Hey guys, my apologies too for being thin on the ground. It seems old Bucky has possessed new and virtuous Bucky . I am trying to calm down a bit but I went to Leeds again today and just got back a short time ago (thanks for remembering my pain Caitni). I tell you once you fall off the party wagon its difficult to get back on especially after two and a half years of no luck. Anyway, I have put the wine back in the cupboard today is CD6 so action stations soon.

Ei hope you are getting your head around your diagnosis .
PnM You should have called me I could have given you some hot tips for cornering that baby likes it's on rails.
JG They work you too hard and Zita sucks just blurting stuff like that out. Some people don't have a choice and all that negativity isn't going to help them. .
UniT I am going to check out the twisted thread sounds interesting. Glad you are back at work and the crust has gone.
Caitni Glad you sound a lot more upbeat. Baby dust for you this month.
RFN2 Hope TEW stays away and you get your BFP.
MOB How are you feeling, it's getting closer...wooohoo...
07MTW Not long now, have you got your feet up and lots of chocolate cake at the ready?

Big higs to anyone I forgot. I'm gonna go to bed now. What a rock and roll life I really lead..NOT.

PicknMix · 24/09/2008 21:56

Ok, second time lucky......

Hello all!

Judith, please don't panic over what ZW has written, I'm sure she has her reasons but likewise I reckon your consultant is top notch and has far more in-depth knowledge compared to ZW. I do remember reading somewhere about needing to keep your womb area warm whilst ttc (I think this was on an accupuncture fertility website) so do as Uni suggests and keep wrapped up nice and warm. Maybe invest in a few of those period pads you stick on your skin and wear under your clothes (these are my life saver during my af!)?!

Uni - am loving the bitter and twisted thread as well. Can fully understand why you're not hanging around the conception boards at the mo. Tis nice to 'see' you here though

Bucky Bucky where for art thou Bucky?! You would have laughed at me the other day - my mum insisted on hiring me a shop mobility vehicle whilst visiting Jersey Zoo - reminded me of your drunken pursuits the other night - felt really old, it even had a yellow flag flying so felt like I was in a bumper car!!!

Can't believe you're on the 2ww already Caitni . Did you enjoy a sunny weekend in Brighton? Did you actually go to that food festival at Stansted House the other week? My mum went and said it was a bit pitiful - not many stalls and lots of rain!!

Any sign yet ready? Fingers crossed for you but do understand what you mean when you say you wish it would just hurry up and arrive!

Ei I agree with everyone else that its fantastic you have had such a quick diagnosis and that it is, not necessarily easily, but treatable. Hope you've got over the shock now - always difficult to get your head around something like that I imagine. Big higs to you.

How is your week going Mob? Have you tried the hypno cd yet? How many days until its all systems go now??

I did have a fab time in Jersey, thank you to everyone for asking . The wedding was the only downer!!! Well, thats not strictly true, the wedding was fab, the smug preggos were not.

Its getting to the 'action' bit of my cycle and I just can't muster up the enthusiasm. Have been looking into adoption actually but apparently you can't be under any treatment for fertility when you start adoption proceedings as you have to be completely NOT ttc. Will get DH's SA out the way and then see where we are I guess.

Have an appt to get my plaster taken off next thursday - YAY!!!! Can't wait, seriously lost my sense of humour with hopping now. Was vaguely exciting being whisked around the airport in a wheelchair though

PHEW! Very much writing, well done if you've read this far....

Probably left someone out, apologies if I have

Caitni · 24/09/2008 21:31

Hi UniT I got this CD - she's got a Welsh accent and I've always had a fondness for the Welsh . I reckon the ol' hypnotherapy CDs are not money wasted - they're so cheap in the grand scheme of things, and do seem to help. You've been through so much, so I think you're helping your body & mind to get past the upheavals. Time's not speeded up btw, I just have a super short cycle of 23 days.

TheUNITUBER · 24/09/2008 18:46

Hi all

Judith I remember reading something about that too, so I went and did some (not so)sneaky at-work Googling. Some people working in fertility are quoted as saying that IVF seems to work better in the lighter months - women need less drugs for the stimulation bit. They have not identified whether this is because of more daylight or because of the warmth, but I reckon you can wrap up warm, keep the heating on and buy one of those SAD lamps and it will help! The problem with the sort of statements I've seen is that they don't identify the affected group. So it might be the case that stim is harder in a sub fertile woman, but we know that you are pristine on the inside so maybe in women like you it makes no difference at all. That's how I would see it anyway. I know your treatment is going to work, so there.

Caitni - the last few weeks have really flown, I can't believe you're on your 2WW again already. Your CD sounds less annoying than mine. Which did you get? I am going to buy one for healing since one of my scabs looks about a week behind the others and I keep getting twinges where my tube should be! More money wasted, but maybe it will help.

Nice to see you again Picknmix. I'm rather enjoying that thread for the bitter and twisted. Today I told someone (moaning that she's tired in her second trimester) that if she would like to swap with me I'm up for it. Needless to say the moaning has stopped!

Higs to the rest of you, Ei (less dazed now, I hope), Bucky (are you still getting the needles? I'm going back this week. sigh.), MOB (our guinea pig), Ready (has your period shown up yet?) and lurkers. See you later.

Caitni · 24/09/2008 17:20

Also meant to post this link to an Observer article as it's about IVF and accupuncture. Interesting for those needlers amongst us!

Caitni · 24/09/2008 16:54

Hi everyone,

hope everyone's well.

JudithG Hmmm, I personally find Zita West a bit iffy, in that she makes sweeping statements like that and doesn't back it up with anything. It's the reason I wasn't so impressed with the book of hers I picked up. Try not to let it get to you , as you're in such good shape mentally and physically that there's every reason to be positive about your treatment. Sorry to hear you're swamped at work - I live in fear of monitoring internet usage!

PnM oh hope you can remember the gist of your long post! And hope you got that tea!

UniT perfectly understandable that you're not spending too much time on the conception threads but do hope you pop in and say hello from time to time xx

Ei hope you're doing OK lady.

MOB I'm actually liking the hypnoconception CD! Having to lie down, relaxing - what's not to like? No melting like butter though...

07MTW hope you're doing well.

Ready any sign of AF?

Bucky also hope you're doing well my lovely. Any other trips to Leeds recently?

to everyone I may have forgotten.

Nothing interesting going on with me - our BD-ing bonanza stopped on Tuesday morning, as ov'd Monday. So now officially on the tww. Am promising myself to not go mad symptom spotting after last month's huge disappointment. Easy to say at 2 dpo, but imagine I'll be wondering at every twinge in a week or so...

07mumstheword · 24/09/2008 15:46

Judith Did she give a reason? Why on earth would winter make a difference I wonder?

JudithGin · 24/09/2008 13:54

hello everyone,

sorry for going awol. I have been utterly swamped at work! They are also clamping down with internet usage here (I found out they were monitoring some people) so I am beign more careful. Broadband is playing up at home so I have been starved of Mumsnet!!!

Ei I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis with lupis. DH told me his ex had the condition and she was fit as a fiddle and she has two DC's now. They have found an issue and now they will treat it accordingly, so in some ways it is a plus that you know. You can put it right.

picknmix - please post your lovely long message again

hello to MOB ready unitube bucky and anyone else out there. I'll post more soon

Nothing to report here. I'm at CD17 and we BD-ed every day from 8-15, so no one can say we didn't give it a good shot. DH is away for a few nights from CD15, so that's probably the end of our TTC attempt this month.

Depressingly I have just seen something in a magazine articel about looking after your body for life 101 tips or something (reading my secretary's "Easy Living" while I scoffed down a sandwich) with Zita West saying "I always recommend that my cleints don't attempt IVF in the winter months" January anyone....?!

PicknMix · 24/09/2008 11:36

Bugger, I wrote a really long post and thought it was here but now I check and it isn't!??!!!

Haven't got time to rewrite it at the moment so will try again this afternoon

PicknMix · 24/09/2008 10:34

Hi all,

Am now back and about to have a cuppa and a catch up.

Be back in a mo (once I've convinced dh to put the kettle on and bring me said tea as still in plaster on crutches so still dependent on him to do everything!)

X

readyfornum2 · 23/09/2008 20:39

cant say for definate but I had the right signs around day 15, I know that I am not pg I can tell but I just wish af would arrive so could get on with cycle 2!!

Why is it that af shows up when we dont want it but as soon as we do it goes awol!!!

TheUNITUBER · 23/09/2008 20:25

Do you know when you ovulated readyfornum2?

readyfornum2 · 23/09/2008 08:32

Well its cd29 and although i thought it would arrive last night af is still awol.

I still dont think that i am pg though because since loosing all that weight my periods have changed a bit so could just be down to that.

If the evil one hasnt turned up by thursday i might test again but im sure she will

Hope everyone has a good day x

TheUNITUBER · 22/09/2008 21:15

Hello ladies

I am sorry I haven't been around much but since I am not really ttc (but rather am recovering from ttc and considering my next move) I have not been spending so much time on the conception threads.

Although I did pop into the assisted conception thread today and from the number of WIMBEWAIFers over there I begin to think we should all just relocate...

Readyfornum2 I'm sorry you think your period is coming, but hey, that would have been miraculously fast otherwise and maybe next month you'll get lucky.

MOB I am of your duvet. Yes I am back at work. I was so bored at home and had to get back to normal. Really, my tum is hardly scabby at all now!

Caitni - get you and Bucky and your alcoholic benders! I am pretty of those too. Although that is also the colour I would be in the morning!! Enjoy the CD!

Bucky Good on you letting off steam and letting old Bucky out for a bit. I can have a vicarious social life through you [sigh]

Picknmix poor you dealing with the smug preggos. I hope you had lots of wine and went on and on about how delicious it was. That'll learn 'em.

Hope you're feeling a bit less shocked, ei.

Higs to everyone else (Judith, I hope you are not working too hard) .

readyfornum2 · 22/09/2008 17:36

EI- Its good that they have given you a diagnosis, I have read about the condition and it appears that aslong as you start the aspirin and injections straight after a bfp it is very succesful so fingers crossed for that bfp soon

PnM- I dont know how you managed it, I would definately have been very drunk by the end !!

Caitni- Enjoy the bding and hopefully the cd will help things along this month

MOB- That duvet sounds very cosy lol

Hello to everyone else aswell x

Well I feel very much like af will arrive in the next few hours so I guess the bfn was right
Oh well I guess this month was just a practice run lol (plus I think DP would have robbed if I had fallen in the first cycle lol

Madoldbird · 22/09/2008 14:57

EI glad the appt went well, but crumbs, you must be feeling a bit shell shocked. I hope you are managing ok at work (and don't worry, you can let all your weirdness out on here ) It does seem like a positive step forward though - at least they know what is wrong and how to put it right. The only trouble is, judging by the examples unituber & caitni have given - you are just going to have to go on and have 3 children . Seriously though, i hope you can come to terms with this initial shock, and then they can help you and make all your (and your DH's) dreams come true. Hugs to you.

Caitni Pleased you had a good night out. Hope your CD is ok - the ivf one i have has a woman with quite an annoying voice, but hopefully i'll get used to her. Sadly i can't work in bed - my company are too stingy to provide us with lap tops, only pcs.

unituber Am worried that a fleeting message from you means your working... i hope not... although if you are, i guess that means you are feeling better, which is a good thing.

Caitni · 22/09/2008 14:23

Ei I'm so glad you've got a diagnosis. It's excellent, as you know you're capable of conceiving (the weight loss can only help with that too ), so the next steps are clearly laid out. If this is the same as Hughes Syndrome, then my sister-in-law has this too - her first pregnancy was trouble free but then she had three miscarriages in a row. She was so so disheartened, as was my brother, when she was diagnosed with Hughes Syndrome. When next pregnant she was treated as you mention and had a healthy pregnancy, and then another one (bringing a grand total of three lovely DCs ). I know you must be feeling quite overwhelmed, but this treatment really does work so here's hoping you get a BFP really soon so you can get cracking with the baby aspirin etc . Also, this is apparently really easily missed so 10 out of 10 to your consultant for spotting it right off the bat .

UniT hope you're doing OK and that the belly button's healed. Are you still sticking to taking a break from ttc til Nov? It must be annoying to have conflicting advice...

Bucky & JudithGin hope you gals both had a good weekend!

MOB new duvet sounds excellent. If I were you I'd be "working" from bed with a laptop (which is what my "working from home" usually descends into!).

Big hello to PnM & readyfornum2 and everyone else.

Things are good with me. My hypoconception CD arrived today, so am planning to listen to it tonight before DH gets home. I think I'm ovulating today, so more nooky planned for tonight and tomorrow morning. The CD's arrived at the perfect time! The drinks on Friday night were really fun. The pub we were in (the Easton which some of you ladies may remember ) became a bit loud later on, so I was kind of glad to leave at half ten to get our train. As we left girls started dancing on tables - I felt a bit long in the tooth for it all TBH!
