Hi All,

This is a difficult time for most women (and men) I think.

Certainly for me, I've waited a long time to get to this stage , having not met Mr Right until the age of 31. Now 34 and got married 2 months ago and now want to complete the family!

So, just started "trying" for a baby and due to my impatient nature, have already started using Ovulation Kits. (Probably not a good idea). I also did the Female Fertility Test and that seemed to have a good result aswell.

I was on Dianette for 8 years and came off of it 3 years ago. My cycles became regular again but every 5 weeks instead of 4. I had previously come off of the pill for 6 months and my cycles were regular, so I guess all this is a good sign.

Anyone else had similar experiences and fallen pregnant quickly? I know everyone's different but any good news stories help move us all along!! .

xx

oh Dawn - I'm keeping everything crossed for you. Please go for the scan - everything might be ok, and if not then at least you'll know for sure. I've had 2 early MCs in the past and in some ways I actually feel that it may be the best thing if the embryo isn't forming properly or there's something else wrong. It really helped me to feel like it happened for a good reason, is that makes any sense.

Here's a bucket load of babydust for the pip:

Summerbird you are currently on cycle 5 ...will keep my fingers crossed for you. Funnily enough, even though I haven't even OVed yet this month, I don't think I'm going to conceive this month either...no idea why...just like a sort of feeling...a sixth sense...

Flirty x

PS. Glad the list is helping... x

I have missed loads on this thread!!

BSL i am indeed getting close, i am on D23 now and getting nervous, i am due AF on Monday but am not hopeful. I dont feel any different and have no classic symptoms, no implantation bleed, and am fine on alcohol (god do i sound like an alcy??!!)

flirty i am keeping your list of excuses - it is fab - i work with women who are always looking for signs of basically anything so that they can say 'ah well we guessed anyway' remember i told you all about my poor colleague?

I am worried about hiding the no drinking thing too, as i am renowned in my group for being the hardcore one - or the one they have to scrape off the floor at the end of the night!! (what a nice thought - and me a respectable 35 year old!!)

Yep that list is right for me - oo i am the front runner! Then eth Heres hoping! Am not sure if i have got my cycle right, i am due AF no 6 next week so am i on cycle 6 or 5?

Yes have a good evening Bonifacio, your DH will be a happy bunny!!

Flirty I agree, I love a nice glass of wine with dinner. I don't really think a glass or two would hurt while TTC. Don't have any of my student drinking habits now thank the Lord - Hangovers are a killer at 30!!!

Teeny change for me...

Excellent, Flirty!
Another quite good reason for anti-biotics is having a wisdom tooth infection. You DEF can't drink on the anti-biotics they give you for that, it makes you horribly ill. Although, I actually used this one last year when my AF was late and I had convinced myself I was pg - although it did go a bit wrong when my friend made me eat soup instead of what she had prepared or everyone else!! Ended up actually convincing myself there was something wrong with my tooth, by only eating on one side. Then, to make it worse, friend said 'oh yes, you can tell you have a wisdom tooth infection, your face is swollen on one side.' DH was pissing himself laughing, adding to it with 'yes, she's looking a bit like a hamster, isn't she?' The pig. Maybe stick to the old UTI one, on second thoughts.

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 12:32

Bonifacio - I'm still having the odd drink, and I'm ona a girls night tomorrow and will definitely be having a few bottles of wine with dinner (..not to myself!). The nine months after I'm PG will be hard enough - I LOVE a nice glass of wine with dinner - so I'm damn well not stopping yet! A few drinks now and then won't harm you at this stage. It's the binge-drinking that's the killer...and I'm sadly too old to be in that market!? The student days are long gone...

Drinking Excuses & Tips - feel free to add to the list...

  • Some alcohol-free drinks than can fool friends and keep us healthy: a Virgin Mary, sparkling apple juice in a champagne glass, a cranberry juice without the vodka, tonic water without the gin...
  • At dinner parties, put your wine glass next to DH's and in the muddle of the table, he can drink alternatiely from both, you can stick to the water and noone will notice.
  • On antibiotics: but keep the reason simple (ear/throat infection or a urine infection- no one will ask any more!)
  • Food poisoning recovery
  • Be the driver
  • Detox or sport training
  • On a diet and have cut out alcohol
  • Suffering with a hangover and couldn't stomach another drink!
  • Not drinking in a bid to help give up smoking...ask friends to 'support' you in your efforts by not offering you any alcohol!
Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 12:32

Yup thats right for me thanks eth!

Speak to you tomorrow ladies. DP has just arrived!!

Summerbird when is your AF due? Mine is the 6th. Am fairly confident I messed up this month TBH, so am not going to test unless AF late by one day...
Bonifacio - good luck with your evening!!

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 12:16

Shit, just poured myself a very small G&T. Maybe one every now and again won't hurt while were ttc, its not like DP is giving up and he's half of it!!

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 12:11

I think I'm probably going to tell our closest friends and family as soon as we find out. They will be the hardest to keep it from. Apart from that we can use the driving thng and DH will order drinks for me if it gets a bit tricky. Fortunately we live a long way from the office, so one of us always has to drive if we go out with work colleagues. The only tricky bit is now, when I'm not drinking cos we're TTC...we have no news and don't want people to know!

All sneaky ideas from DH/DPs welcome!!

eth37 · 29/07/2008 12:09

Another prob with not drinking is just how annoying everyone is!! Also, I am crap when not drinking and get tired quicker... Oh, the dilemmas! I really think if ever we do conceive, those first 12 weeks are going to be soooooo scary. I think I will be a nutcase, racing to the Dr every 5 mins...

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 12:04

Ha I can just see the look on my friends faces if I told them I was training for the marathon!! The would piss themselves laughing!!

Flirty do you think porn will help!!

Such a good mood!! xx

eth37 · 29/07/2008 12:03

Flirty - the marathon thing is inspired!! I might even go for that one myself! Although my family would never believe me, that is the only prob.
I am already a bit worried about going for lunch with a fellow teacher in 2 weeks - she would normally always order a bottle of wine. And she would never believe I was training for the marathon! Hmm. Well, probably AF will be here then, in which case I will be ok.

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 12:02

Thing is though BSL I got absolutely trashed this one particular night we were out and though my friend was equally as trashed so was talking utter nonsense to her and she was stone cold sober!!

I must admit, the day she found out we went for dinner and as soon as she didn't order wien forst thing I said was your pregnant. She protested and used the antibiotics excuse then she tells me 12 weeks later that I was right!!

They also went away for 3 weeks which made life much easier I imagine though we can't really do that at the minute, maybe a good idea to go away for the weekend which is when we are normally out or i'm just going to be a recluse for a weekend.

I will ask my DP what he thinksm, he is very sneaky so is bound to have some good idea's x

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 12:00

I think I'm going to use the marathon one!!! PMSL!!

BSL x

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 11:59

Schloer...isn't that the sparkly grape drink! I definitely think it's an option.

Lots of x posts...so sorry for all the repetition!

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 11:58

Bonifacio - you sexy little hussey! This is borderline soft p*rn! I've been invited out on Wednesday for a girls night and am already plannign on the mini-skirt for the occasion so that DH can't resist my tipsy, seductive ways when I get home!

On the no drinking...my friend (at the time work colleague and drinking buddy...so I saw her all the time) told me she was training for the marathon and was stopping drinking in preparation. I TOTALLY fell for it, as did everyone...then she announced she was 3 months PG! It was perfect...noone did anything but support her commitment to the cause! Hilarious in retrospect.

saz007 · 29/07/2008 11:54

If I go out then I will (quietly) order a vodka and coke with no vodka - lighter on the wallet, waistline and also help with the TTC!!

It's the family dinners with my PIL that will be the problem I feel. DH comes from a very close family and we are always round for dinner where the wine is free flowing. I think the grape juice is my way forward

Oh I must also say that I read on another thread about drinking grapefruit juice - I am now doing this but it is VILE. This surely can't be good for you????

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 11:53

OOOh,Bonifacio, your friend is very sneaky!! That's a great idea - to make DH drink your drinks for you! I reckon I can definitely use that one!!

I find it really annoyig that people try to guess and make comments! My aunt has been over here from Singapre and she's made so many comments about when will DH and I have a baby and why don't I use my sister's DC to practice on!! It's horrid, cos it's not like we're not trying!

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 11:48

Sorry eth x post. Good idea though, unless as you say people order a bottle of wine looks a bit iffy if you want something else when normally you would drink the wine!

I've even blowdried my hair!! And...have heels on!! He's so going to know my game the second he walks through the door!!

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 11:45

Saz and Bonifacio - I'm not drinking at all at the moment. I got a couple of mega high temps during my AF when I was drinking with friends and as I want to temp this momth it scared me! If AF arrives at the end of the cycle then I'll be drinking again!

Oh, another strategy for not drinking would be to get DH in on it and pretend to order a G&T - if you and DH get drinks from the bar then you can make sure it's only a T with no G. I've done that with some friends who were trying to get me to drink more than was good for me before all this TTC business.

Loving the 'virgin' look, Bonifacio!! Your DP won't know what's hit him!!

BSL x

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 11:43

My thought was I would just oreder a Coke or something and pretend that its got vodka or something in (luckily I do drink vodka so not comlpletely new) the only thing is if people near you hear you order it. I will have to talk quietly and seat myself away from the most observant people.

My friend who just told us she was pregnant would order what she normaly drinks but then swap with her DH when he had finished so that it looked like she was drinking. She did really well I never noticed, her poor DH was so drunk a few times!!
