what happened at your pre conception test?

I have a preconception test on Friday, how can I prepare and what should I expect. We have alot of medical conditions on both sides but we're healthy ourselves.

I feel like test is the wrong word, I mean appointment with the GP

Are you talking about fertility testing? Its usually some blood tests and an ultrasound to start with. For more in depth fertility assessments your gp can refer you to a fertility specialist.

no I want to start TTC so I researched that I should book a preconception appointment with my GP but not really sure how I can prepare or what it's for. Thank you for responding I appreciate it

Oh right!! I get you. So its usually all your medical and family medical history, so having knowledge with those things is helpful, and then a few personal questions about cycles, ovulations, any cramping, mid cycle bleeding and stuff like that. Then probably an ultrasound and some blood work.

If you are in the UK then no GPs will not give you an ultrasound. In all honesty I doubt they’ll do any of the things that previous poster mentioned. That sounds more like a fertility consultation. In my opinion no one really goes to the GP to say you want to try and conceive a baby. You just crack on. Start taking folic acid first.

No not in the gp office, you will be given a referral and sent for one..

Lots of people see their gp to make sure they are healthy and have no underlying issues before ttc. Thats probably the sensible thing to do. I know for me personally before starting the ttc process I see my gp who runs a few checks and makes sure everything is still alright.

my fear is that both sides of the family have heart conditions. My sister is one and when she was pregnant she got a 6 week scan for it. She was also entitled to genetic testing but the waitlist was so long she just went ahead without it.
