I think that's the key Playing - if you're happy with the weight and feel healthy, then fine, but for me it's a combination of health reasons (high blood pressure, borderline cholestral) and I'll admit it pure vanity. I also have a very sweet tooth, and sit at a desk a lot for work too. Maybe see what your midwife thinks? I think from what others have said though that some are a little 'traditional' when it copmes to weight issues, and as long as you feel OK in yourself, the only 'problem' factor might be having lots to lose after the birth! And it ghets worse with each subsequent birth too I might add; I am already just 6 pounds below what I was the day I went into labour with dd3

Playingthe9monthwait · 08/07/2008 12:09

Well I am def overweight, but TBH I haven't actually cared. I don't eat too unhealthily but I do eat too much and I do not do any exercise at all ( I spend all day sat at a desk) so thats basically why. I know I could change it if it bothered me but I consider life to be too short, I enjoy food and my poor health/laziness really stops all but the most gentle of exercise. I must say, I am starting to think about it now I am pg though. I am a little worried what the midwife might say when she does my BMI next week. Being over-weight has never seemed a problem but now I am beginning to wonder if it might be for health reasons.

Diege · 08/07/2008 12:08

The gut gets us all in the end, whatever our size . Had the Davina pregnancy exercise dvd on this morning in the background while eating chocolate biccies...so feel I've made a start on the exercise regime at least

glaskham · 08/07/2008 12:01

Thanks Diege and Playing, Behaviour thread is doing some good- if nothing else just to hear that other children do the same thing!!

Playing, i'm the same size as you.... When carrying ds i was a size 10 was a size 14 after having him and have been since, sometimes a 16 recently as been eating tons of crap!!

Playingthe9monthwait · 08/07/2008 11:55

No advice at all Glask - but I can second the behaviour or parenting threads.

Deige - Am smiling at the idea of you being a size 8 and have a big gut! I am a 14/16 normally

glaskham · 08/07/2008 11:55

think i'm going to spend today removing anything from his room that shouldn't be there, he'll have his wardrobe bottom cleared (he has a couple of storage tubs in the bottom for just play-clothes etc) so will move everything out and plan to get up earlier than him to get him up before he has time to trash anything!!

Diege · 08/07/2008 11:03

Phew Glaskham that sounds tough . As far as advice goes, it sounds like you are doing all the right things, confiscating toys etc. I suppose the key thing is to keep going with it, and make sure that you clearly outline the consequences of the behaviour if it continues, and then always follow through with your 'threat'. My sister is going through the same thing with her dd, and it is a nightmare . Hopefully you'll get some great advice on Behaviour thread .
POP lol at gut. I am the same, and while the 'lower' gut seems to be meeting up with the 'upper gut' (does that make sense??) into a sort of pregnant 'slope', it looks disgusting . Oddly enough I can still fit into my size 8s as I have a tiny frame that is not designed for such 'hangage'

glaskham · 08/07/2008 10:53

Hey pop!! nice to see you here!! Glad things are going well so far. And nice to hear you are being well looked after with regards to consultants and regular scans!!

Hey everyone else. I've had an awful day today so far... DS has trashed their room again... he does it every mornign and i'm getting at my wits end with it!! I was so close to walking out this morning because me and DH keep rowing about it or because of it. We both get really stressed in the morning becasue we have to spend so long tidying their room every day!! We have tried offering rewards, punishments, confiscating toys, taking their tv out... dd is being punished becasue of him too.... I swear i dont know what to do with him!! My sister has taken him for the day becaus ei cant bear to deal with him when i feel so horrible towards him. Luckily DH didn't need to set off till 10am so he did the dressing and breakfast while i sat and cried!!

Anyone got any clues as to what i can try? gonna put a post on behaviour i think too!!

Playingthe9monthwait · 08/07/2008 10:40

oopps . obviously can't read!

pregnantpopcornprincess · 08/07/2008 10:39

3 days not 3 weeks! . Look like I'm about 3 months ahead of dates though. My gut is huge.

Yes, will def find out the sexes. I'm far too impatient not too. I reckon they are girls although it would be lovely to have boys otherwise DH will be seriously out numbered. Girls would be easier logistically through. Because I will be scanned every 2 weeks, I'm hoping I will be able to find out soon.

Playingthe9monthwait · 08/07/2008 10:36

Hi Diege!

Diege · 08/07/2008 10:33

x-post, hi Playing!!

Diege · 08/07/2008 10:32

Hi POP, I'm sure you will be fine and looked after well . I know what you mean about scans; I've had my fair share of bad/disappointing ones, and tbh don't really look forward to them. So exciting about your twins. Will you find out the sex(es)?

Playingthe9monthwait · 08/07/2008 10:32

Morning all,

Star - hope you sort this situation out with work, at least you got a pay rise out of it!

Deige - 108 exams, that sounds like fun

Ses - Fingers crossed its AF.

Nat - you're right, this morning Ned doesn't seem such a bad name. Maybe its grown on me.

Pop - 3 weeks ahead! How did that happen?

Cal - I know what you meant about telling grandparents. My grandfather has cancer again and I really feel like telling him about my pg to help him fight through it. Just can't bring myself to yet though, its far too early.

Well saw the gp last night. Was really a waste of time. Lovely lady but filling in for my gp who is on sabbatical so has no idea how maternity services work around here. Still, it was nice to get things started and be offically refered to the midwifes even though I have actually booked an apt already.

What was weird was when she asked where I would like to give birth. I felt like saying FGS I am only about 5 weeks, anything could still go wrong, I am actually trying very hard not to think of my little tadpole (as christened by DH) as a baby yet. So I just mumbled something about low intervention and midwife lead care, maybe next door at the birthing centre if I continued to be low risk.

Oh and excitingly I actually feel quite sick this morning. Maybe I should eat some food, I'm sure that will help

pregnantpopcornprincess · 08/07/2008 10:17

Hi all, thought I would check in quickly. I saw the midwife yesterday and she has dated me 3 days ahead of what I first thought I was. Very odd. Scan is booked for the 24th and I'm so scared. The scan at my last pregnancy was nothing but bad news.

I've been told that I will only see consultants from now on because they are identical twins. It's nice to know that they are being careful with me. It's reassuring. Still praying that these two make it and that the scan doens't tell me that they have given up.

Have I missed any BFP's whilst I've been away?

Diege · 08/07/2008 09:27

Morning! Working from home today trying to get the through the last 109 exam scripts, gahhh!!!!
SES, good news on the cycle front - hopefully af is round the corner .
LB, glad you and dh had a good chat. Sounds like he's aware of the effects of his actions, so fingers crossed things are on the up .
Hi Tinks Your scan pictures are great! Can I ask you when you gopt your appointment through? Not had a letter yet, and I will be away during week 12/13 of pregnancy, so no doubt will have to rearrange for when we get back from hols.
Right, let me at those exam scripts..

tinkhasagorgeousbean · 08/07/2008 08:14

Ses15 · 08/07/2008 06:33

Morning!!!

kooky - not sure about ttc. Don't want to set myself up for a big fall but then hey if I don't try, I won't get and I sooooo want to be a mummy!

Got another BFN this morning and definitely feels like AF. I'm still a litle confused though as I was told it would arrive 3 weeks after ERPC at the earliest!

Cal - yes - trying for dc1 so I guess I should make the most of my talent for stopping weeing mid stream !!

Anyway, I'm off to work now so hopefully catch you this evening. Have fun!!!

Starshinetiger · 07/07/2008 22:04

LB - glad you've talked things through with DP and hope that it stays positive.
Ses & Cals, thanks for your words. I know I sound an ungrateful cow, but for about 3 months they've been recruiting a new Director for our team and our Head of Team was going through the process - she was rejected. New Director is announced. About a month ago, my manager said he is moving within company but abroad. They've all spent so much time and energy talking to me and saying opportunities will come up - basically because I'm the only constant with our customer group and they want to keep me in there. I don't know why they bothered when they obviously had it all worked out all along. I'm not stupid. I can see that the payrise is a sweetener - if it really was the good opportunity they believe, rather than sending me off to do a job noone else wants to do, then they wouldn't need to give me a payrise as well. I mean I work in bloody HR FFS - we tell everyone else about handling change, I thought they were doing really well until I realised today it was all flannel - I'm most insulted that they think I'll just buy all their flannel grrrrr!
Right, rant over - as I said to DH on phone tonight, let's just wait and see what the next week bring in terms of testing! I may as well stay there and take the opportunities this role will give for now. Am not feeling very positive re. testing, as I have a sore throat (which is a weird pre-AF symptom for me), but I have also been having sickness and dizziness...

Thanks for tips on nits too. Tonight, DS and I had conditioner in our hair - I let him watch me comb mine too and then I did his, but tbh it's so fine, I ended up just sitting there and picking eggs out with my fingers - even Mum's superfine metal comb didn't get them out. Will just keep doing this every night for next couple of weeks until we're both rid! DH has none, but he has v. short, course hair, so no surprise.

Right, enough waffle from me.
Tink - your piccies are amazing.
Playing - still can't believe your pg!
Who's testing tomorrow - there must be someone!

calsworld · 07/07/2008 21:24

LB, I'm really crap at any kind of relationship advice, which I don't think is helped by the fact that DH is the only proper boyfriend I've ever had, BUT am really glad that you came on and found support here and even more glad that you had a useful chat with your DP.

Ses, LOL at stopping weeing (do you have any kids yet? it gets harder!) and YAY! for BFN and fingers crossed for AF!

Star, work sounds tricky, hope you find it better when the change has actually taken place,

kookykid · 07/07/2008 21:08

Hi Ses! It's weird saying it, but congrats on AF and your BFN! at you having to stop mid-wee this morning!! Are you going to start ttc after this period or wait til the next one? Am excited for you after everything you've been through.
Sorry, LB, I meant to say earlier - glad you are feeling better about everything. Be strict with your DH though!
Have an Enormungus (another new word for you all!) pile of ironing to get through tonight. [grrr]!

Ses15 · 07/07/2008 20:58

Hi all!! Nice to see the thread has been nice and active today

I nearly forgot to test this morning and had to stop mid-pee to go and get a test! As a result, I only managed about 3 seconds. I did get the desired BFN but think I will try again tomorrow... The other thing though is that I think I've got my AF! Bleeding and cramps most of the day. I just didn't expect it to be this soon. My immediate thoughts are:
i) is it too soon to get my AF (only 2 weeks after ERPC)? So is it definitely AF?
ii) I never thought I'd be doing smiley faces about BFNs and getting my AF!!
iii) Is this a good sign to start ttc????!

LB - thanks for logging on and reassuring us. It was good to hear from you and hope things continue to improve.

NJ - I had never considered Ned as a name. (Obviously I haven't thought about names at all yet and we certainly don't have any planned! ) Having said that I completely see that Ned can be cute and yet a good respectable "adult name" too. In summary..... It gets my vote!

Star - sounds like things are unsettling at work and changes afoot. I had to tell my team about my job change today and even though it's a change I want, it was still really difficult and I will really miss them.

Hello to everyone else

GYo · 07/07/2008 20:37

Hi Nat

Ned is a great name - I've met two Neds in my life and thought it was great name on both occasions

kookykid · 07/07/2008 20:05

NJ - I think Ned is a LOVELY name! Maybe you can get away with no middle name? I have same initials as my dad btw and was never a problem!

Star The only way Ive heard is totally effective to get rid of nits is to put conditioner in the hair and comb them out and wipe on something (eg kitchen roll) on each sweep. This should be done every night for about 2 weeks to get rid of them all. What a PITA! Think tea tree is good too. The trouble is you have to treat everyone in the household at the same time.
