The cats are old so that is ok as well. I thought it was something to do with poo, it is the same with sheep isn't it?

OP posts:
Diege · 02/07/2008 18:02

No, not at all!! I got badlt scratched by a stray cat when pregnant with dd1 (can't get it from a scratch)and insisted on blood tests etc

lardybump · 02/07/2008 17:59

Thanks diege you must think I am nutty.

Hi LB! I have cats and it's only their poo that can be a problem (toxoplasmosis). In fact, even if you were to handle their poo every day and put your fingers in your mouth (sorry of you're having tea ) you would have something like 0.11111 chance of getting it as the bacteria is only active for a few minutes when it comes out of the (usually kitten) gut. I had a scare when pregnant with dd1, so did a bit of interrogation on dhs frioned who is a vet. So, in answer to your question, yes, totally safe to be around cats
Nat, I have 2 'girly girls' and one 'tomboy' - tbh she is a welcome relief from pink - it does get a bit wearing!

lardybump · 02/07/2008 17:45

I know that would be bad. I had it with dd but it stoped at 12 weeks so hope it is the same this time.

I am staying at a friends house on Saturday night and she has 2 cats. This is going to sound daft but are cats ok around pg women?? Is it just there poo that is a problem, or is it something about worms? Please dont flame me I know I should know but I have just never had cats nor has anyone I know...

See Diege, that would be my luck, if I ended up with a girl, she wouldn't be the pinky girly girl I'd love to have, she'd be more boy-ish than my boys! Ah well, at least I could pretend she was girly!

Hiya LB Sorry about nausea, it's crappy isn't it? Shouldn't moan too much though, has got to be better than actually being sick!

lardybump · 02/07/2008 17:08

Hello Teuch, it really has been a long time. So glad everything is going well for you and that the sickness is easing. Gives me hope........ Are you able to put scan pics on profile...

I am having an internal scan next friday at Dr I will be 7 weeks and 4 days. I am so excited just hope they pick up a heart beat.....

lardybump · 02/07/2008 17:03

Evening everyone........... nausea is very bad here...... But still havent been sick yet. Feeling really giddy as well and still eating for england. I am showing already and have resorted to wearing tops a size to big ..

I have told all my family and dp family, and a couple of close friends. Was so excited I couldn't keep it to myself...

I do skulls and skateboards already with dd1, so well-prepared I feel the same about the possibility of a boy Nat, just don't think I 'do' boys!
Happy, I also go a while without remembering I'm pregnant, then I have a quick squeeze of my boobs to make sure they're still sore Apart from that, I wouldn;t know!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/07/2008 16:55

LOL Happy, I think each pregnancy gets a little less exciting and new and cutsie, and more worrying, tiring, and annoying! Still, will all be worth it in the end (y'know when the real fun starts?! No sleep, boobs hanging out everywhere, saggy bellies, shall I go on?!!!)

Someone remind me why on earth I thought having another was a good idea!

happynappies · 02/07/2008 16:40

tbh I can't really think boy or girl yet - it still doesn't feel real!!! I can go whole days when I forget I am pg - this never happened first time around!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/07/2008 16:38

Thanks again Happy, and no not over dramatic at all, I would rather know!

Boys are easy peasy lemon squeasy, you'll soon get the hang of him Diege (Clothes are a pain though, unless you like skulls and skateboards?!)

I don't think a girl for me is even remotely possible!

Diege · 02/07/2008 16:34

Happy, I think I would be a little if I had a boy (I mean, what do they wear? )but would be pleased too. I suppose hand on heart if I had free choice I would say another girl...just seems 'neater' somehow .
Nat, one word for you: GIRL!!!!!

happynappies · 02/07/2008 16:32

Oh I'm glad mw was ok NJ - it strikes fear into my heart when I hear of SPD-related stories, but sounds like you've got it under control. Sorry if I was over-dramatic!!!

Playingthewaitinggame · 02/07/2008 16:30

You know most people on here seem to be doing quite well on the sickenss front. I can only conclude that this is a lucky thread with lots of BFP and good pgs. Or at least hope!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/07/2008 16:27

Happy Thanks for all of that at what happened to you though, must have been a nightmare The MW I saw today isn't actually 'my' MW, I see the community MW, she is a MW based at the hospital. She said she had it herself, and her pelvis actually split apart (eek) She said she got to the point where she lined all of her dining room chairs up in a row (think cinema seats) in the middle of the kitchen so she could use the backs of them to lean on to walk the length of the kitchen. She did say about the support belts, but said that they only provide relief for a few women, most find them too uncomfortable to wear, especially in the later stages. And when I said swimming, she actually said floating, just to take the pressure off the pelvis.

At the moment, I'm not feeling it too badly, it got worse while we were on holiday, but sleeping on a pull out sofa bed night after night is enough to do anyones joints in! And I can still get my knickers on with out having to sit down! I am seeing my MW at 16 weeks (for triple test and the re-test on the rubella immunity which they cocked up) so will mention it again then, especially if it has gotten any worse, and I am in the middle of waiting for an eBay shop to set up an auction just for me on a special price on one of those long pillows so hopefully using that at night will help for the time being.

I think at least for now, I am happy to go with the flow, see what my MW says, and take it from there, but if it does get much worse in the meantime I'll make an appointment sooner.

Fingers crossed the sickness stays away Mine just built up gradually, still going, still not actually been sick, but nausea has been much much worse than with my first 3 pregnancies, and the dizziness that comes along for the ride is wayyyyyyy more annoying than the nausea!

Diege, one word, BOY!!!!!

happynappies · 02/07/2008 16:25

Haven't told a soul in RL yet - but was wondering about telling family this weekend, as they're all up for sister's birthday. Part of me thinks not though - would quite like to tick along as far as poss. towards 12 weeks scan. Last time I was obsessed that someone would notice me not drinking, or figure it out. Now I realise how easy it is to just fill my wine glass with Schloer and keep up the pretence!

After three dd's would you love to have a ds? Obviously as long as baby is healthy etc I don't mind, but am a bit nervous of boys now that I've had dd!! The world turned pink 19 months ago, and I haven't come down from my pink fluffy cloud yet!!!

Diege · 02/07/2008 16:20

I've told people I know will be genuinely pleased for us (colleague at work, a few mums at school, dh has told a few friends) but we're waiting until the 12 week scan before officially telling family (also to avoid neagtive reaction as long as poss', though as Nat says may be best just to bite the bullet!). How about you??
Hey we might be on for boys then if we miss the sickness (my midwife's theory after I had such bad sickness with my 3 dds). I actually has dream last night that I gace birth to a baby boy (I found him at the bottom of the bed) and called him Alexander . I have been having the craziest dreams though!

Teuch · 02/07/2008 15:51

My nausea (though not sickness) just got progressively worse, I assume as the hormone levels were rising, just until the last few days. And even then, I get wee bouts...

Fingers crossed for eluding hyperemesis!

happynappies · 02/07/2008 15:44

Hi Diege - that is great that you've missed out on it!! I feel a bit sick from time to time, and it makes me think 'oh-oh' (as my dd would say) 'it's going to get worse...' but touch wood as yet it hasn't. I don't know whether I'm just generally busier so don't have time to dwell on it, or whether I had it worse because dd was a girl (old wives tales and all that). Roll on next week when hopefully I'll be out of the woods!

Have you told anyone yet Diege?

Diege · 02/07/2008 15:36

Hi happy! Wow, 6 weeks!! I have missed out on the sickness this time (touch wood) after having hyperemesis the other times, so it is possible! It kicked in last time(s) at 4.5 weeks, and I'm 8 weeks on Friday. Was reading somewhere that if you're going to get it it will normally kick in by 7 weeks, but no hard and fast rules! You never know, you may be lucky!

happynappies · 02/07/2008 15:14

oh Tink - so I'm not out of the woods??! I really can't remember from last time - I thought I felt sick from the word go, but my memory is so hazy... Glad you're feeling better now!

tinkspregnantwithnumber2 · 02/07/2008 15:02

happynappies · 02/07/2008 14:24

Hi everyone - hope you are all well... haven't been here for a little while, had hectic weekend of first birthday parties and christenings, and just about getting over it now.

Can any of you pg ladies remind me when ms is supposed to kick in... Its not that I'm particularly worried about it, its just that I'm praying that I won't get it!! I'll be six weeks tomorrow.

NJ - am worried about you and your pelvis. If you have SPD it is not true what your mw says, that nothing can be done! Don't want to interfere - obviously you know how bad it is, but I'd urge you to push for a physio appt - they can give you a support belt etc, and if (fingers crossed not) it gets even worse, crutches. You should really have proper advice about how to go upstairs/in and out of cars etc - and swimming can actually be quite bad, because you feel weightless in the water and 'fine' - so don't realise what damage you are doing. Particularly avoid breastroke - v. bad!

My mw's attitude when I had SPD was 'oh aches and pains of pregnancy' etc, and because of her lax attitude I ended up being unable to move after the birth (i.e. at all - temporarily paralysed from waist down for over 24 hours) and had to stay in hospital a week, ringing buzzer every time dd cried because I couldn't lift her, then went home on crutches. Sorry for scare story - but I really don't like to hear of people with potential SPD being fobbed off, and really hope that you will get proper help if you think things are getting worse. You don't have to accept that there is nothing that can be done. Ignore me if its not too bad, or you're not too worried. Sorry!

Playingthewaitinggame · 02/07/2008 14:08

Thats interesting LBOT. I don't know why I'm worrying about it yet, got to get pg first! . Am beginning to get quite desperate to test noe (CD34) but will wait it out till the weekend!
