At 33, is it realistic to hope for two more children?

Just having a wee wobble about my age following my birthday. I’m now 33.

My first child is 6 months old. It took 8 months to conceive her. I plan to breastfeed to at least a year. No sign of a period yet.

I would really like to have 2 more children. Does this seem likely I would fit two in? I was thinking of starting try next February, and hopefully giving birth to #2 before 35? But I’m worries there would be no chance of a third at that point. Does anyone have any hopeful stories?

I had my two at nearly 35 and nearly 38. Both were conceived very quickly and no issues in pregnancy. I have a few friends too who have two children after 35.

The whole fertility dropping off a cliff at 35 has largely been found to be a myth. Yes there's a decline but its not as drastic as its made out to be.

From the statistics I read from age 30-34 86% of couples concieve after 12 months and from 35-39, 82% couples will concieve after 12 months. It certainly isn't a given you'll have trouble conceiving, far from it!

Had my first at 37 and second at 39, both very easy and uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries. As long as no fertility issues have been flagged this should be totally doable!

Hi OP 👋 I’m you, but 5 years later. DC are 3 and 5. I’m 38 now and feeling like I could go again…

But you won’t know until you get there! Enjoy what you have and don’t overthink things, you know what you really want and can handle.

Very sensible to start thinking and planning at a reasonable age. Fertility starts to drop after 35 and then a lot more at 40. All depends on how long you want the age gap between children to be.

I had my first at 36 and second at 39. Breastfed my first for 2.5 years and got pregnant 4 months after I stopped.

Impossible for anyone to say, but why not slow down and take things one at a time? Don't rush away your first child fixating on more. Also you have no idea if you will enjoy more children!

I had 2 dcs aged 38 and 42. Breastfed each child for 3+ years. No fertility treatment used and no miscarriages, but it took a while to conceive each one.

First at 32, second at 35, hoping to TTC this year and will be turning 37 in a few months.

I am so jealous of people whose periods stay away for a while. It returned at 16w postpartum with my first, and 9w with my second. I wasn't breastfeeding so maybe that's why but I did think I might get a little longer 😒

Definitely plenty of time. I had my last two kids at 36 and 38.

I know everyone is different, but I reckon you have enough time for a couple more.

After many miscarriages DS at 36, DT at 38. So three kids after 34!

Where in the world are you that you feel concerned? When I had my kids in my twenties it felt like all the other mums around me were age 35+ so I'd say that's the norm now. Stats bear it out too, most first time mums are over 30 in the UK and many go on to have more than one child.

Everyone is different, but it’s obviously possible in theory.

Anecdotally, I had my children at 33, 35 and 37. I’m now 38 and I’m hoping to be able to have a fourth, but 13mo is still feeding a lot and my period hasn’t returned.
