Just returning from EPAU!
My period started 18th March. Lasted 7 days full heavy flow as per usual. Finished on Tuesday 24th March. Spotting for a day. Thursday 26th CD9 DTD. Spotting started on Saturday night CD11 from pink watery and got progressively more to light bleed bright red. Thought something bad happened saw Dr on Tuesday 31st March CD14 urine teat for UTI and she had a feel on my belly. Said my uterus felt enlarged took history and then organised refferal for U/S and Blood work.

Later that day spoke to Mum. Good old Mum who said right away your pregnant. I said no way that's not how science work's. I do BBT for last 3 years. My cycles are always 29-34days long but average is 30days. My Ovulation is usually CD16-CD24 at the lateat but average CD17/18.
There is NO way on earth I ovulated and concieved on CD9! That's not normal for me unheard of. Scoffed laughed it off.

But she put the idea in my head and so at 11pm I said I will do a test for Sh*ts and Giggles whats the harm. I was peeing more often last 3 days and my uterus felt full and stretchy. And bam! positive and a not faint either!

How can this happen? The science is not sciencing! What on earth. I have 2 children. Both concieved normally and I knew my Ovulation day due to BBT 1st was CD24 the second was CD17.

Here is my March Chart and test results.

Been at EPAU and rhey thought I was crazy I had to show them the tests.

@MocktailMe thank you and aorry for the late reaponse. i took 3 weeks away from social media and the phone to soend time with family outdoors enjoying the weather. Being in nature has been so theraputic and healing.

We decided to try this cycle. But not expecting anything. The fear of another chemical is still lingering.

Thank you for the responses.

Scan was clear and BHCG was 5 so discharged.

Not a happy outcome unfortunately. Was trying to remain hopeful for a miracle.

@MocktailMe thank you for the clarification. Luckily no complications but i started to bleed again only after 1 week. And it was hwavy for 3days then light. So not like my period at all.
So confused.

Goimg to do a test in the morning just to be safe.

The second bleed will have been triggered by your HCG dropping. Try not to worry - a level of 5 is classed as clinically negative so you really should be safe now.

I'm so sorry you've been through this. Ectopic pregnancy is so cruel. Not only the pain of miscarriage but the fear for your own safety and health - it's pure hell. Even with a naturally managed outcome - the 'best' outcome - the stress is unbelievable. I've had 'normal' miscarriages too and the health fear from ectopic makes it even worse.

I hope you are okay and have some IRL support.

You cant know your ovulation day OP.

With regular cycle monitoring you can actually see the day and some people learn to feel it/narrow it down to a half day. Not helpful after everybtig the OP has posted.

I wish you well for the upcoming tests and management if it is an ectopic OP

MocktailMe · 11/04/2026 17:50

Sorry, to be even clearer, when you bled, that was your uterine lining shedding. That does NOT affect the ectopic pregnancy at all, as it's not in the uterus.

Since then, your uterus lining has grown thicker again. At the HCG level of 74 You're unlikely to bleed again, that's high enough to stop you bleeding.

I hope that your HCG will drop at the next bloods. If it doesn't you're very likely to be offered methotrexate as an injection. As I say, didn't work for me, but does work around 70 percent of the time, it's worth a go especially at a level low like yours. Mine ruptured around HCG 2000 so I wonder if it was just too high for methotrexate to manage.

MixedBananas · 11/04/2026 15:33

How did yours go? I am in limbo at the moment. The bleeding stopped a while ago.
Pregnancy tests have been dark last 4 days.

Weds 8th Apr - hcg 74

Spoke to consultant who said Ectopic and expectant managment as I am pain free. I have light period cramps and back pain only amd still peeing loads. No UTI. Wxan showed nothing. The douglas "pouch" behind my uterus had free fluid which has reduced. And the pool of blood at the neck of the cervix has reduced on the scan that's all they can see. BUT my endometrium is intact. No loss it grew 5mm from last scan ao that was 6 days. Where did the bleeding come from? It is thick and normal for this time in the cycle. So I am baffled the Dr didn't know how to explain fhat ofher then just blood from the cervix area above and thats it. But they were unsure

BHCG repeat on Weds 15th and then decide what to do. sigh in limbo

Was the bleeding the miscarriage? Will I atoll bleed again? How does ectopics resolve themselves?

The Maternity unit were very abrupt and just wantes to get rid of me I was very upset. The Male Midwife just so unempathetoc and said "well hopefully we will be seeing you again in 1 or 2 montha time". That was it. How insensitve. Not even resolved atill in limbo and emotional wreck!!!

So my first ectopic I had a really heavy bleeding just a couple of days after when my period was expected. I had extremely faint positives at the time, dismissed as a evap. Two weeks later I had darker tests. Much darker. But, it self resolved, which means the body re-absorbed the pregnancy tissue.

The bleeding is from the uterus - it sheds the lining at the correct period due time. This is because the HCG is too low to stop the uterus lining shredding. Because there's no pregnancy in the uterus, right?

But there is a pregnancy - in the tube. So after the bleeding and the lining shedding - it makes no difference. It hasn't shifted the pregnancy, which remains growing, usually slowly, in the tube.

The pregnancy can only get so large in the tube, it's not designed to grow there. Often, your body will recognise this before it gets too big, and the pregnancy will stop growing, and the cells will be reabsorbed.

Sometimes, the body will not recognise this in time. The pregnancy keeps growing and the tube bursts - a ruptured ectopic. This happened in my second ectopic pregnancy.

Ruptured technically can happen at any point, but the lower the HCG the lower the risk. If HCG is low, and declining, it's usually safe to moniter and see if your body can 'self manage' the situation. If HCG continues to rise, you will likely be given drugs to try to stop the pregnancy continuing, which have around 70% chance of working (the drugs didn't work for me, hence the rupture and surgery).

I'm sorry if that all sounds clinical. I get the heartbreak I really do, but I didn't understand anything during my first one, I didn't get why I was bleeding but still pregnant etc etc. So I hope that helps you understand.

Against my will I've become an ectopic expert.

Was the first scan inconclusive?
Why can't the scan show more?

Edited

They said as my HCG is so low the embryo is too tiny to see on scans. If it was visible they would be expecting HCG levels of 1500+

They checked ovaries and fallopian and uterus outside and inaide and cervix nothing other then fluid outside at the back of the iterus which shrunk slighly between scans (from ovulation / inflammation / ectopic) and small pool of blood at the ooening of the cervix which also shrunk slightly.

To add to the stress the Reg in Gynae said that she jad a patient with levels of 94 on expectant managment as was fine and pain free, this week who ended up with a ruptured Fallopian tube 2 days later! So she said low levels do not mean a rupture will not happen.
So I am now on ectopic watch. I have a hoapital bag packed in the car incase i get acute pain. Thry told me to go there ASAP no delay. Shoulder pain, abdominal pain, faitining, dizziness etc.

The scan won't show anything with HCG this low. This does seem classic ectopic and is following almost exactly how my first one went. Hopefully with numbers this low it will be self resolving. It's a horrible thing to go through I hope you're okay. Here to talk if you want to as I've been there xx

Hey ladies thank you for the messages. Been hard to find time deapite all this I am still non stop.

Back and fourth with hospital.
Thurs - 74
Sat - 55
Mon - 75

No clots, or pain, bleeding is medium and bright red jnn stop now

They want me back in on Weds for bloods another scan and see the Dr.

My pregnancy tests were lighter but then yesterday and today they gone dark.
This seems to be very abnormal and they think maybe an ectopic.

I had this last year! I didn’t even know I was pregnant as I had a bleed inbetween sex and the pregnancy test being positive! I bled normally for 6 days.

I then took a test don’t know why as I had a feeling and boobs were tingling and it was positive I was super shocked! As I thought I had a period in between, my hcg levels were the same they wasn’t going up quick enough for their liking, I then had some cramps in my left side and when I had a scan it was confirmed it was growing in the tube. I then had methotrexate and I won’t lie was fucking awful! The pain I had was bad, I had to have bloods every week to make sure the hormones were going down. I was about 9 weeks pregnant. Make sure they don’t muck you around as ectopic is actually dangerous! They didn’t believe me to start with but I told them something wasn’t right.

springdaffodils26 · 04/04/2026 15:27

Be wary could be an ectopic pregnancy.

OliveGrovez · 04/04/2026 14:16

Yes, you could be pregnant. I now have a daughter in her mid 30s conceived on day 9 of my normal 30 day cycle.

Mossstitch · 03/04/2026 22:39

@MixedBananas no, no bleeding but did have some spotting /brownish discharge with first pregnancy a week after period would have been due which in hindsight was probably conceived at a similar stage in cycle. Hope everything ok for you 💐

sharkstale · 03/04/2026 21:23

I fell pregnant days after my period ended, but it was my first period after a miscarriage so I assume my cycle wasn't normal. I tested positive something ridiculous like 10 days after my period. I had a couple of episodes of bleeding through the pregnancy but have a healthy toddler now. Like I said, my cycle was probably a bit messed up at the time but it's definitely possible.

MixedBananas · 03/04/2026 20:53

@Mossstitch did you have any bleeding? It seems more peoplw have gone theough very odd conceptions.

Today bleeding has been on and off brown then bright red and the test is no darker stayed the same which is odd 🧐
No pain at all. But also 0 pregnancy symptoms now. Bloating and that's it.
Have HCG test tomorrow morning to repeat.

@Bells3032 youngest is 19months old.
3 different tests on 3 different days. I wash the cup with soap and water and dry each time.
I am currently CD16...... So I would have had to have ovulated and concieve CD9? And get a first + on HPT CD14??? It doesn't add up.

I am not poaitive as I am having bleeding so EPAU took bloods and waiting for results. They will repeat if there are high levels of HCG.

Unless you conceived the previous cycle?

Mossstitch · 03/04/2026 01:47

I'm old so don't understand the abbreviations, didn't have ovulation tests in my day but I know for a fact my last son was conceived 8 days after my period had started, so I had only just finished my 7 day period and my cycle was usually 30/31 days but could be longer. I knew i was pregnant (go off coffee/nauseous) a full 10 days before my next period was due ............bodies can catch you out!

MixedBananas · 03/04/2026 00:12

Plumchumm · 02/04/2026 22:51

You definitely didn't ovulate CD9. It takes 6 days minimum after egg is fertilised for it to get to the uterus and implant. Then a further few days for that to be detectable on a test. So you would have been pregnant at least a week by the time you found out. Some people get a normal period even while pregnant, it is not too uncommon.

Edited

I know scientifically makes no sense. Thats why I initially said it must be from last cycle.

OP posts:
MixedBananas · 03/04/2026 00:11

@MocktailMe no worries. i have had 3 chemicals and so I feel less upset about it. Just more confused and not inderstanding logistics. As soon as I got the positive I already decided it was not viable as the period and then bleeding again.

Positives from this I finally got a detailed scan and bloodwork. And I know mybiterus is healthy and no fibroids and no growths. The linen, and ovaries look healthy. So God willing it will happen next time. Just have to get through whatever this is. Either way viable pregnancy or not.
