TTC baby number 2

Here we go again, husband and I are trying for baby number 2. First time around it took us 9 months which in the grand scheme of things isn’t that long but it was a hellish 9 months of heartache. I know people try for a lot longer, years even or have to go down the IVF route but we as a couple found it really hard. Second month trying and I honestly don’t know if I can go through this again, we are so so blessed with a beautiful child already but I am longing for a second child. This month I experienced a symptom that I had when I was pregnant first time round and convinced myself it was happening again but quicker for us. I absolutely love being pregnant and being a mum but TTC is not for the weak. Took a test today and it was negative (not due on for another 6 days) and I’m so disheartened that it will take just as long again and month after month the disappointment takes its toll

First time round, I started a feed and found it so helpful, I even went back to share our positive news to help others in the same boat so hoping someone can share their experiences on baby number 2 conception
thanks for reading :)

Hello I would like to join please as I am currently trying for baby no.2. It took me 10 cycles to conceive the first baby. Today is CD1 of the second cycle since I got the first period last month. Good luck to everyone!

Thought I'd update - we've been away since Sunday (AF predicted due date) and I was starting to fret that maybe I hadn't ovulated this month. This morning was my first chance to test again and BFP (2-3 weeks)!! Imagine I must have just been testing far too early before.

Anyway, wanted to provide some hope for exhausted, stressed, breastfeeding mums!! X

Congratulations 🥹❤️

I’m DPO 13 took a test and negative, no sign of period no cramps or sore boobs nothing. Feels like an odd cycle

Nattalot · 11/02/2026 20:29

I'm also trying for baby number 2. First cycle. It only took 2 months to conceive our first but I'm worried my age might impact it this time as I'm 36. Not sure when ovulation was as I think I had two LH surges so not feeling very positive about this month!

hopeful4us · 11/02/2026 16:51

@sunshinecitrus1best of luck, hope you hit the right days!

AF predicted to be Sunday for me. Took a CB test with FMU and got an evap/ident 🙄🙄 bfn on a boots test this afternoon. Know I'm not 100% out as I didn't track ovulation but it's not looking likely this month

How’s everyone doing so far this cycle? I’m CD13 today and got a positive OPK this morning so plan on DTD tonight and hope for the best! Month 6 for us x

Redheadx · 05/02/2026 07:22

I’m around 10 days DPO and just took a test this morning and not pregnant :( ! I have absolutely no signs so I’m so disappointed to say I’m out :(

I think I’m out this cycle as well, 12 DPO and just experienced brown spotting. I had a really good feeling this cycle 😓

Sorry ❤️ wishing you lots of luck for next cycle xx

Ahh me too with the occasional night shifts!

Another cycle out for us too so I sympathise 😩 I’m 13dpo today so just waiting for my period to arrive now. Onto month 5 for us, the whole process with the disappointment each month really starts to take its toll doesn’t it x

Wow so similar! Cycle day 2 here 💔

hoping this is the cycle for us! 🙏🏻💖

Haha yeah same I work occasional night shifts and if I’m not there then absolute no issues, but if I’m there then she still basically feeds like a newborn hahahah

another cycle out for us :(

might try and cut the feeding down a little…💔

Yes, I am, and I have wondered the same thing! I’m only breastfeeding a handful of times a week though to get my just turned 2 year old to sleep. The days my partner does bed time, she goes to sleep without it no problem 😅 I have tried to stop to be honest but she’s carried on wanting it so I haven’t pushed it.

I’m not sure if this is silly, but is anyone still breastfeeding? I am still feeding my 2 year old and starting to wonder if this is impacting us conceiving. Obviously people do get pregnant bf all the time, but seeing as we’ve been through a few cycles and I’m over 35 it’s something I should cut out….neither me or my newly turned 2yo are ready tho

@Nellie19 I agree, hearing other people’s stories and knowing there are others out there does give a sense of comfort. TTC is a very lonely journey in ways. I haven’t told anybody (including family) that we are TTC apart from a couple of my best friends who don’t have children and are not planning to. It’s hard to describe that “ache” for a child when I guess they don’t feel that way as they have chosen not to have children. I just hope some of us have some good news soon! I’m sorry that you’re out this cycle 😣I hate when our bodies literally try and convince us that this month may be it! I’m only on CD5 so still early days for me this cycle. TWW is the worst though……. I promise myself every cycle that I will try and keep busy and try and keep my mind off it as much as I can but on those days running up to AF being due… It is mentally hell! x

Hi all! We are in a similar boat, when our first turned one last April we started trying and fell pregnant on the first cycle but ended in miscarriage 😭 the constant negatives since then are really getting me down, especially as so many people I went to baby classes with are now pregnant. Hopefully it will happen soon for us all x

My little one is 2 in March and I didn’t think I would have a big age gap. Having all the same symptoms as I did when I was pregnant last time that I haven’t had since we’ve began trying again which gave a bit of false hope this month but after another negative test I’m out for this cycle! Naively thought because it took a while last time this time would somehow be different but here we are 🙈
sorry to hear about your miscarriage, really hope you get some positive news soon! Nice in a way to hear stories of everyone else being in the same boat gives you a sense of comfort as I don’t know many people who are! Sending lots of love xx

@ThisNoisyLemur I'm still breastfeeding DD and intend to keep doing so (naively hoping she'll self wean if I get pregnant). Everything I've read says that if your cycles are back and you're not feeding multiple times throughout the night it shouldn't impair ovulation... But there are also plenty of annacdotes online of women who stopped bf and conceived the next month 🤷‍♀️

I can totally relate to this also! We are currently TTC baby number 2, we are on month 6 and honestly, feels like a life time to me. The emotional rollercoaster is like something I have never experienced before, a constant loop of hope and disappointment and it’s SO consuming no matter how hard you try not to let it. We were very lucky with our first as it happened more or less the first cycle so never had this emotional journey so much the first time around. As previous poster said, I just expected to have the same experience as the first and my body would know what to do again but no such luck as yet!

Similar here! Feel so so incredibly lucky to have had our first ❤️ fingers crossed for some baby news soon xx

HMum19 · 03/02/2026 10:11

Hey, I’m also TTC baby number 2, I have a child from a previous relationship. Came off contraception in May 2025 and fell straight back into regular cycles, only recently starting tracking bbt and OPKs and have confirmed ovulation and timing baby dancing perfectly but it just isn’t happening. It’s heartbreaking every month getting that big fat negative, I’m thinking of asking my partner to get a semen analysis and if all it okay with that then going to the doctor for some help as well, but not sure how it works with having had a child already.
No one prepares you for how hard this process can be! Xx

hopeful4us · 03/02/2026 08:36

Hi all, can I join? 👋 DD is 10 months old and we have just started ttc#2. Trying to remain as relaxed as I was first time around (no OPKs etc) but finding it a lot harder actually. Think I'm around 1dpo, planning to hold off from testing until next weekend - at least DD provides a good distraction in the tww!

Lgn90 · 02/02/2026 08:22

Hi all, I can definitely relate to some of your experiences! With my DS, fell pregnant the third month of trying (after a chemical second month). We've been trying for second since May 2025, fell pregnant Oct 2025 but that ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks :( had one cycle since and just going into my fertile period again so feels like the first month back on it. Naively assumed that it would be same length of time as conceiving DS, if not quicker! I also have long cycles as well (up to 45 days) so that makes waiting for ovulation such a drag as well.
We are actually going for private testing this week. Hoping everything's fine but want to discuss the possibility of ovulation induction so at least I could have a close to 28 day cycle and have some more chances
