Hi

My DD is nearly 8 months old. I love her to bits and she is the most contented little thing. Now that she is kinda nearing the toddler stage, I am really missing the baby times. (I don't know why!)

Everyone keeps telling us not to have more as my DD is so content, because they say our others will be terrors!

I know you are suppose to wait a year between to let your body have a break too. I don't know if this is just my uterus talking and saying to have another now, or what!

What do I do? confused, baby loving mom

Regarding pregnancies- no complications here. I get Hyperemesis which was terrible with the first two, but DS was so young I don't think he really understood what was happening- just that he got to play with grannie a lot!
I've not had HG with this pg, just grotty prolonged MS but I don't think I've done any 'harm' to my body. Just take plenty of vitamins and eat as healthily as you can manage. Toddler keeps you pretty active which is good.

booge · 01/06/2008 08:36

I got pregnant with DD when DS was 8 months. Absolutely no regrets, I love having a small age gap.

charliemama · 01/06/2008 08:26

I meant to tell you about the preganancy and birth.

I was more tired when I was preganant with DD, but another advantage was that DS1 was still having an afternoon nap so I did to.

The birth with DD was quick and, dare I say it, easy?!!!! I don't think my body suffered from having 2 close together if anything it seemed to cope better.

charliemama · 01/06/2008 08:23

Hello I have 18 months between Ds1 and Dd and then 2.5 years between Dd and ds2. IMO 18 months is a brilliant gap. Yes it was hard work, but babies are hard work and all ages of children have their own challenges IMO. We never had problems with jealousy like some friends who left a bigger gap. The biggest advantage i found was that we had no pressure to be anywhere in the morning as DS1 wasn't at preschool yet. When I had DS2 we had school and preschool runs to fit in which really were hard work. DS1 and DD are really good company for each other (when they're not fighting!!!).

Trust your instincts I could never fight my broody feelings for long!!

It has been hard work but that was alot to do with colic and now we're past that stage things keep getting easier and easier. I love my little family of little people .

I think if you can afford to be a SAHM then go for it.

If not, then you may want to think of waiting due to Nursery fees etc.

I had 3 under 4 and it was fine. My eldest have an 20mo gap and adore each other.

Be prepared, because it is very hard for the first year, but the rewards after that are absolutely worth it.

Nemoandthefishes · 01/06/2008 08:09

another who had a few close together I had 3 under 3.2yrs and also had a 15wk mmc in there. Love it, hard work and can sometimes be hell on earth on they are all ill or crying but generally day to day it works well. We are debating no.4 as eldest is currently 4.6yrs

emmabemmasmom · 01/06/2008 07:54

Oh thank you everyone. It is nice to hear from people who have gone through what I am contemplating!

Can I just ask...how did you find the actual pregnancy being so close after eachother? Where they any more difficult or did anyone experience any difficulties as a result of not really letting your body recover inbetween?

I spoke to DH last night and I think we decided to wait until we buy our house which should be in the next month or so. That way we know that is sorted rather than being pregnant and then worrying about where to live! I think I can wait a month...I think

Oh just get on with it!

My eldest two are 14 months apart as well. Now they are 6 and 5 it is fab. I had 3 under 3, now 4 under 6. Its all fine.

Hard work, but fine. And lovely.

ready4anothercoffee · 31/05/2008 21:49

I have 3 under 5 and love it! I think it is partly down to how you approach the challange as well as luck.

Go for it!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 31/05/2008 21:47

I pointed out that I'm at home because I think you have to consider childcare costs - I know a few friends who are basically working to pay nursery fees at present, and that's with the classic 2 and a half year age gap.

LyraSilvertongue · 31/05/2008 21:46

Don't listen to em. Both my babies were contented little things.
Small ages gaps are a good thing imo so go ahead if it's what you want.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 31/05/2008 21:45

My two are just under 17 months apart, so DD was conceived at round about the stage you are now. It's worked really well. I'm pregnant again now so will have 3 under 4.

I like having them close together- they get on well, sometimes fight, but that is normal.
I took the decision to look after my children myself and have a career break. I'll work school hours when they are older. (I'm freelance mainly from home).

I tried working part time but it is too complicated to sort childcare with the way my projects work.

Being in my late 30's was also a factor in my decision.

I didn't crave the baby thing so much, I wanted DS to have a sibling, but then two, one of each just seemed too 'neat' for us, so we thought we'd mess things up a bit with an odd number! (I'm the youngest of three )

re not getting pg- it took nearly two years to conceive DS, a month each to conceive DD and no. 3! (DH was slightly disappointed)

lulurose · 31/05/2008 21:35

I had my 2 dds 14 months apart. It was really hard, the first year was an endless cycle of nappies, feeds and trying to keep my older dd happy. Now though, they are 3 and a half and 2 and a half and love each other to bits, they play nicely most of the time and I have (almost!!) got my life back!!

I should say that dd2 was a happy surprise, dd1 was 5 months and I was weaning her off the breast and had still not had a period. Go for it, but prepare for "you must be mad" brigade.

4andnotout · 31/05/2008 21:34

Go for it! Im 19 weeks pregnant with dc4 and dd3 is only 8 months old! When this one arrives i will have 4 under 6, i want at least one more and would rather have them fairly close together so that i dont get out of touch and dp is getting no younger

scorpio1 · 31/05/2008 21:32

do it. i have just had dc3 and want to ttc dc4 by xmas, though it takes me about 6 months always to conceive.

have to persuade the husband first though

schneebly · 31/05/2008 21:31

DS1 was 8 months ond when I concieved DS2 - deliberately! In fact we started trying when DS1 was 5 months old.

There is 17 months between them and they are absolute best friends. I love seeing them with each other. DS1 was not jealous of DS2 as a baby and the only stage I found really hard work was when DS2 started walking - He was a year old and DS1 was 2.5 which is quite a difficult age anyway. However it soon all fitted into place and they keep each other entertained and are very easy to look after!

littleboyblue · 31/05/2008 21:26

Thank you. You too. X

emmabemmasmom · 31/05/2008 15:01

Thank you everyone for all of the kind words.

I actually thought for some reason I may be pregnant. I just had that weird feeling, even though I am on the pill (but I was with DD too!) So today I went to Boots and got a test and did it in their bathroom. I then proceeded to cry when it showed up 'not pregnant'.

I think that answered my question

I will talk to my DH when he gets in...and thank you again everyone for the support!

Littleboyblue: Sorry to hear about your mc. I wish you plenty of luck and happiness in the future

littleboyblue · 31/05/2008 11:26

Thanx NorthernLurker, it's my 3rd mc in total and dealt with this one alot better, i concentrated on how much I've been blessed with ds and that worked for me. Anyway, Know what you all mean about the baby stage. DS still isn't crawling but when he could sit and hold things and play without me, it was that little bit of independance that really scared me.
Someone told me it easier with 2 very small dc as it takes some of the guilt away IYKWIM, if 1 crying, they have to wait while you sort out other etc and like everything else, the more you have to do the easy it all becomes. Apparently!
This is not my opinion, I can only imagine how hard it is with 2 kids under 3 but maybe there is some strange logic there?

learningallthetime · 31/05/2008 10:45

I know exactly how you feel emmabemmasmum.

My DD is 7 months and I'm already missing the baby stage - Its gone before you know it!

We are going to start trying for another baby soon. I had a c-section so I have to wait for a bit.

I grew up like an only child, my brothers and sisters are at least 15 yrs older than me, and I want my children to have each other to play with - I know how lonely a childhood can be at times.

I also want to be able to take my them out on holidays and days out which we can all enjoy and I think a close age gap would be better for that.

I do worry about being pregnant and having a toddler but I think if you have to cope then you will.

NorthernLurker · 31/05/2008 10:40

LBB - sorry to read of your mc - good luck with the trying!

littleboyblue · 31/05/2008 10:38

My ds is coming up 10 months and we've been trying for another since early March. DS has good days and bad, the early days were really tough as he had probs bringing up wind and got signs of colic within 2 weeks! And he cried ALL day every day until he was about 14 weeks old. But I want to complete my family sooner rather than later. I feel preg in April and was so happy but mc at start of May. Still trying so fingers crossed though. Good luck. X

NorthernLurker · 31/05/2008 10:33

My perspective is a bit different from everyone else on this thread so far I have 2 and 3/4 years between dd1 and dd2. We started trying around dd1's second birthday and were lucky enough to get pregnant straight away. It has always been a great gap - dd1 was at nursery and playgroup so I had a bit of time alone with the new baby and I only needed a double pushchair for under a year. dd1 was fast becoming independant about dressing etc. It worked brilliantly and you could not have closer sisters. I've also realised that because of the gap we'll never have to pay for two at university at the same time - assuming they want to go and aren't doctors or something similiar!
I've then got 6 years between dd2 and dd3 and I love that gap too.
I know it's hard when you're broody (and what your family would think doesn't come into it - tell them to get stuffed if they try to control your life) but I would give some thought to the benefits of a bigger gap as well as to the more obvious ones of a small gap. Good Luck

princessglitter · 31/05/2008 10:25

My two are 19 months apart and it is hard work, but it is getting easier now (8 months and 2 1/4). The hardest bit was being pregnant and chasing a toddler, but I'm glad I have my two children and can enjoy them growing up together.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 31/05/2008 10:09

I agree with Belgo nicely said
You are also lucky your dh would have many more. My dh says no more after this one.
(suprises me how they can dictate how many we have, where is the compromise?)
Always wanted a large family, but we will see. May change my mind after 2
