5/6 DPO TTC #2 but also weaning breastfeeding

Hi all!

Wondering if anyone is in the same position as me…

Husband and I have decided we’re ready to try for baby no2. I’ve been weaning my son off the breast for the last 3/4 weeks and feels like my hormones are starting to come back down to ‘normal’. I’m yet to have a period since I conceived in 2023 so I really have no clue where I am in my cycle or when AF will return. I did however have EWCM last week, first time I’ve seen any since before my first pregnancy.

I think I’d be 5/6 dpo today if I did ovulate last week.

Anyone been through the same? I really can’t remember what symptoms I used to get before AF so literally clueless at the moment.

I have sore boobs at times but that’s due to weaning breastfeeding - I think!

Anyone else in the TTW?

Glad to hear you’re feeling better now @Mismatc🫶🏻

I’m not too bad thank you, the nausea has really hit me the past 2 days and seem to have a splitting headache. My son has been up for 2hrs+ every night this past week with teething so not sure if the headache is tiredness too

Feeling better this morning and just had my peak LH after delayed ovulation, presumably because I’ve been so unwell. DH is away this weekend sadly.

how are you getting on?

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 18/09/2025 21:04

@TheMauveHedgehog100% go with it! I remember the HV saying to me be prepared, he will spend the night making up for it and she was not wrong 😂. But it didn’t last long, even though at the time I didn’t think it would go back to how we were. You’re doing amazing ✨

How are you feeling now @Mismatc? Hope you’re feeling better

Ok on every level this is actually the most comforting thing!! That I’m not the only one whose babe has gone back to needing so much more comfort again. Gives me the confidence to go with it and ride the no sleep hoping it’s temporary. Thank you

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 18/09/2025 14:25

Hey @TheMauveHedgehogthank you so much! Yeah, that’s right I never got a period and was lucky enough to conceive. I did notice an increase in discharge around a week leading up to ewcm though, and that was after cutting out the feed before bed and just doing 2/3 through the night.

Oh I feel for you! I remember mine starting nursery and it was like being back in the newborn phase 🫣 every 45 minutes he wanted a feed/ that comfort. It took around a week but things settled back down to 2/3 times a night for us before I weaned completely x

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore huge congratulations!!!! This is fab news and very reassuring. Did I follow the thread right that you never got a period? I was really convinced mine was coming back two weeks ago and we had made good weaning progress down to once a night max, but now have started my little one at nursery and he is refusing to be settled over night without boob and is waking basically hourly from 1 am -7…so think that may have re set us somewhat! All fun and games😴

Mismatc · 14/09/2025 13:13

I keep thinking I’m getting better and then wake up ill again the next day 😅. My lovely DH has been taking care of everything because I’ve not moved from our bedroom since Wednesday. Usually, I continue with life through any illness but this has been a whole new world…

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 14/09/2025 06:58

Awhh no sorry to hear you’ve not been well @Mismatc! are you feeling better now?

@Rosieliz04I know, I’m curious too and whether they will just date by measurement 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rosieliz04 · 13/09/2025 21:10

@Mismatc Oh no! Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell.

Do you do OPKs or temping to find your ov? Sorry, I can’t remember!

Rosieliz04 · 13/09/2025 21:09

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore Thanks!! Yeah, I’m just trying to roll with it for the moment, but I can’t deny that I’ll probably be testing as soon as I can!

Sounds like everything is going okay though if you’re feeling nauseous (they say that’s a strong sign of HCG I think?) and if you’re not in any pains or bleeding then is definitely progressing okay! But yes, always comforting to see it on the scan. 12 weeks is such a long wait!

That’s interesting about not necessarily adding two weeks on, I wonder how they do work it out and what the pregnancy would be dated as?

Mismatc · 13/09/2025 15:11

I’m CD12, I wonder whether ovulation will be delayed for me this month because I’ve been so ill the last week. It has reminded me a little too much how hyperemesis feels 😅

Lovely to hear you’ve found a peak! I hope all goes well with your scan as well.

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 13/09/2025 12:19

Hey @Rosieliz04 good to hear from you! and amazing to hear you found your peak! You never know but yeah I guess AF wouldn’t be too disappointing as you’d know you’re getting your ovulation back.

I’m ok thank you, starting to feel quite nauseous now and still in that bit of anxious limbo phase just hoping everything is ok.

I spoke to the midwife yesterday and explained that I haven’t have a period since conceiving my first but that I’m pretty sure I’m around 6 weeks now and she said she’ll come on Monday to see me and go through the booking in process anyway as it’s not always a given that you add two weeks onto the positive test 🤷🏻‍♀️. So may be that I get in a bit earlier for a scan which I think could settle some nerves but then don’t want to go too early and not be able to see anything 🙈

Hope everyone else is doing okay in this thread too x

Hi everyone!! Just checking in to see how everyone is?

I think I found a peak finally on CD30 (same as the cycle we conceived), and am 4DPO according to FF. Tbh we only managed to DTD two days before ov, so not holding out hope that we’ve conceived.

Honestly, just happy to see in black and white that I’m ovulating so wouldn’t be too disappointed if AF turns up. Feeling quite zen, so far!!

How is everyone else doing? @Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore hope you’re doing well!!

Mismatc · 01/09/2025 08:05

Lovely to see your updates! Line progression is looking really good

Mismatc · 01/09/2025 08:04

I’m well thank you. Started AF today but knew it was coming so wasn’t too bad. I do feel happy to have regular cycles again so at least I know another chance to conceive isn’t too far away 🙂

Rosieliz04 · 30/08/2025 19:52

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore It was a minefield before being pregnant with my first, and now it’s even more confusing!! Yeah, I’ll keep tracking out of interest and would be quite happy to see a proper period, as then at least I’d have real confirmation that my cycle is back.

Yeah, it’s self-referral now which makes the early weeks quite nerve-wracking in my opinion. If you think you know when you ovulated then I’d definitely go by that rather than putting yourself at 11 weeks (seems like not the best advice!).

Those look good! Your experience is definitely giving me some hope!

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 30/08/2025 19:09

@Rosieliz04it can be such a mystery can’t it! But if you’ve dropped some feeds then likely your hormones balancing out like you say. That definitely happened to me, and I noticed it so much when we stopped feeding through the day and the feed before bed actually. I noticed my discharge increased and then maybe 2/3 weeks after is when I had the ewcm.

I found it to be a bit disheartening when my lh levels dropped cause I was tracking out of curiosity but again the ewcm came like a week after, which was totally unexpected. I know everyone’s different but it might happen sooner than you think now with less feeds.

I’m ok thank you. I feel like I don’t think it’s real still and when I phoned the doctors I was told you have to self refer for the midwife now - so that’s changed since my first pregnancy. It says you have to wait until you’re 6 weeks to complete the form and when I looked at it, it asks for the LMP date, which I kind of don’t have cause it was July 2023… I called the number and explained and she said to put myself around the 11weeks so I could be scanned but I know it would be way too early so I’m just going to wait I think as I’m pretty confident I ovulated on 15th/16th.

Yeah I’ve tested the last few days too and seems like the line is progressing 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore I’m not sure tbh! My LH levels rose on Thursday, but never got to a peak or high. They’ve now dropped again but my BBT is still completely static and didn’t feel anything either so I think it’s still a waiting game for me!! I looked back at the cycle in which we conceived DS and I ovulated on CD30 in that cycle and I’m only on CD20, so the LH testing will go on!

I never got a peak in my first pregnancy either actually. So whilst I’m a bit disappointed that I probably haven’t ovulated, I’m still holding out hope that something will happen. I’m definitely feeling a hormonal impact from lessening the BF so I know my body is doing something!

How are you feeling? Have you tested again at all?

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 30/08/2025 15:58

Thank you both!
have you found your peak yet? @Rosieliz04 I never got a peak, just a high but I was pretty sure when I ovulated as I had an awfully sharp pain in my right side.

how are you getting on @Mismatc x

Mismatc · 29/08/2025 07:05

Amazing news, congratulations!!! I’m 10dpo and bfn, lovely to see that like for you. I’ve always used those tests and had no problems.

Rosieliz04 · 28/08/2025 11:38

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore How exciting!! Yeah, you’re still early but I feel if it’s coming up on a digital too then that’s really good!

Yeah, hopefully I find a peak soon. Feel like I’ve been doing my ovulation tests for weeks and nothing to show for it 😅. Your positive test has helped me feel a bit more optimistic though!

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 28/08/2025 10:18

@Rosieliz04Thank you, I’ve just done a digital one and that’s come up as pregnant 🥹 trying not to get too excited as it’s early days I know so keeping everything crossed 🤞🏼.

I believe I’m 12 dpo today, ovulated around 15th/16th.

Oh amazing to get a full nights sleep! And yeah that was it for us, just wanted to know where we stand and when I would ovulate next but didn’t expect it to happen so soon tbh. Fingers crossed you aren’t waiting long to find out when you’re ovulating x

OP posts:
Rosieliz04 · 28/08/2025 08:29

My DS slept all night for the first time since he was about 12 weeks old, so even if the night weaning isn’t going to get me my period back straight away, it’s at least been good for something!! 🙈

My temps have settled down too, so I’m hoping I can find a peak on my ovulation tests over the next few days (according to my app!) and then confirm it via my temp. Even if we don’t conceive, will be good to know I’m ovulating.

Rosieliz04 · 28/08/2025 08:22

@Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore That’s amazing!! Congratulations!!

Looks pretty good to me, I used those strips in my first pregnancy and they were fine for me! I think pink dye ones are generally more reliable.
How many DPO are you?

Lookingtogrowthefanilysomemore · 28/08/2025 06:59

This mornings test. Came up within the 3-5mins but not sure how reliable these tests are 🥺 I’ve read so many mixed reviews
