Does anyone have experience of this? Hubby has just had it done and we are nervously awaiting the outcome!

oh no, katieDD. That's awful. Why has he started to make conditions for the op all of a sudden ? I thought you were both as keen as each other for this

Are you really considering leaving ??!

KatieDD · 01/07/2008 19:09

Well my DH STILL does not have an appointment and is starting to impose conditions on having the op, it's just not going to happen for me, I know it
I'm seriously considering leaving right at this moment.

welshlinz · 01/07/2008 16:43

consultant has just phoned and they have managed to get a space in theatre a week on Friday so he's all booked in !! AARRGGHH !!!

Really don't know how we're going to get away with this with our family and friends and am considering telling them what we are up to just to avoid all the lies about where Dh is etc... . Advice please !!!

terrier141 · 01/07/2008 07:41

Thats all sounding really good welshlinz!! Bet you cant wait to get started now?!
Pinkmook - Im so sorry that you are feeling down - although I think you are doing remarkably well! Im getting stressed out and down and its not even three months for me, so I have no idea how you must be feeling after a year. The problem with us is that although we were warned it could take 2 years we didnt really think it would take that long for us!! Hang in in there PM - the most common time for conception after VR is 12 months - so it could be just around the corner - I know you have added complications and it must seem impossible at the mo - but after reading some of the other threads about fertility issues - it seems there are so many that conceive against all the odds - fingers crossed for you!! take care xxx

OP posts:
welshlinz · 30/06/2008 21:10

sorry pinkmook that you're feeling low

( and me prattling on about my consultation !! )

Hang on in there girl xx

I find this thread really helps me as it's great to be able to talk about this with women in the same boat as it's a total secret from the people I would usually confide in.

welshlinz · 30/06/2008 19:46

An update from consultation today. Everything looks fine with previous vasectomy op and he found the tubes easily etc..
The surgeon has a 87% success rate so I was really pleased with that and he said if the op is successful the odds are 92% chance of conceiving.
Feel much more hopeful again now so we'll have to wait and see. Also, he said he might be able to fit DH in for the op on 11th July if he can get a space in theatre.

Fingers crossed xxxxx

pinkmook · 30/06/2008 19:46

Hi Girls am here - been busy at work and also on a bit of a downer - am due on in 2 days and desperately want to be pregnant but know 99% that I am not (all the signs of AF arriving are here, skin breakout, irritable, headaches) so am just feeling mega low atm. Sometimes I have to not look on here as it contributes to my obsessing so I stop looking for a couple of days.

Read the Stories from byebyebirdie and babbi - just worried that our combined fertility is crap as I have issues too.

Hope you girls are doing better than me. Its 12months since DH reversal at the end of July so maybe thats why its hurting a lot this month. Sorry for moping

welshlinz · 30/06/2008 16:18

thanks terrier, going at half six this evening so will give an update later.

Pinkmook, where are you ? Hope everythings ok x

terrier141 · 30/06/2008 07:15

welshlinz good luck for today!!
Thanks you babbi and byebyebirdie for such lovely stories - you have given us all hope!! x

Sorry, I've only read the OP, so hope this is still helpful: My friend's OH got snipped at a young age, they were married at 21 and they both agreed no kids. At 36 (yes, 36) they changed their minds. He had a reversal and they were pregnant within six months. They had a baby nearly three years ago, and are considering a second. Hope that gives you a bit of something to go on. The were/are both very fit, not sure if that had any effect or not. Best of luck to you and your partner.

babbi · 30/06/2008 00:04

Coming very late to this as I have been away on holiday. Just wanted to say that I can identify with so many points raised on this.

DH was snipped at 29 when he was with ex wife. She left him at 34 for someone else and I met him when he was 36. We saw a consultant on the NHS with regards to reversal. This guy was great and did the reversal on the NHS as in his opinion no consultant should perform this op on anyone under 35 "at least" . In his view even with counselling people dont really consider the future with good reason eg DH thought he was happily married - had no idea about his exs affairs. Consultant replied to this by saying obviously you don`t see the future but we see cases like this all the time - we(the doctors) should know better as they see it regularly. That was why we got it done free on the NHS in 2003 , so you CAN get it done without going private.

Anyways Dh`s results were not so good 8mil and 7mil counts . We were advised to go straight to ICSI immediately to have any real chance.
We were told that they were not happy to do this on the NHS as DH had 2 kids already though I had none.
We were aware that we could challenge this and I would qualify for 2 cycles of treatment but would be at the mercy of the waiting list.
We are very lucky and could afford to go private straight away. (NHS consultants offered to see us within 3 days at the private clinic 2 miles away where they also worked - but on their NHS list could be up to 2 years- another story entirely) With hindsight as they knew what jobs DH and I had we now rather feel they were touting for private business in the NHS waiting room to be honest with you .

Anyway doesn`t matter now. I fell pg on first cycle of ICSI and am now delighted mother of lovely 3 yr old little girl.

So I just wanted to let you all know - it can happen and I really hope it works out for you . I will never get over the joy of being a mother !!

Must go as my little angel has her first cold and is not sleeping well !!

Good luck xxxxxxxxx

Oh sorry tons of housework today, such a waste of a Sunday.
I'm wobbling again, I have days I just can't cope with the kids I have and can't imagine a newborn as well

welshlinz · 29/06/2008 15:52

hello ?? where is everyone today ? surely not doing real life things lol

welshlinz · 28/06/2008 17:35

Great, get on the case, terrier. I need a success story soon !!!!

terrier141 · 28/06/2008 08:20

Snap! I'm totally obsessed and get irrationally tearful over anything thats even loosely connected to babies! Did something really naughty yesterday - I told my Mum - shes ecstatic and already talking about buying things! I have had to tell her to slow down - dont get too excited etc. - bloody great advice coming from me! Now I understand why dh didnt want to tell anyone! (I havent told him I told!)

Anyway I made sure I got dh before he left for work this morning , then after he'd left I did my Persona - and got my egg sign!! Apparently I should ov within the next 24-48hrs! Need a sex marathon now!!

hi terrier, can't remember what the site was called but there were quite a few. I'm starting to feel a bit down after reading into the procedure a bit more and we haven't even had the op done yet. I think it's because I honestly just expected to have the op done and then get pregnant immediately. After reading some of these sites, I feel we're doomed before we've even tried but i no I shouldn't feel like that !!

Had always accepted that we were never going to have any more children after the vasectomy and was ok with the decision but after DH decided to get the op reversed and getting my hopes up, the thought of it not working and us not being able to have another child, is killing me and I seem to be baby crazy all of a sudden

terrier141 · 27/06/2008 15:06

God I've been looking at websites again and its made me really regret that we didnt do a lot more research into our consultant. Just wish we'd asked a lot more questions like: how many times he's done the op before; whats his success rate like; what method of surgery would he use etc.etc. Feel like a right clown for not asking these really basic questions - If I'm honest I was'nt completey at ease with the consultant - but dh said that as we had already paid the consultation fee then we should stick with him.
Just hope he knew what he was doing - we really cant afford any more treatment!
Why am I so bloody negative today??!

OP posts:
terrier141 · 27/06/2008 14:20

Whats the name of that positive websit welshlinz - am feeling a bit glum today and could do with some cheering up!

Thats the weird thing before the op dh was really looking forward to ttc simply because of the sheer amount of compulsory shagging involved - thats why I am so miffed at his reaction now!

OP posts:
welshlinz · 27/06/2008 13:55

oh dear, got all this to look forward to ! Already warned DH that sex will become compulsary on certain days of my cycle regardless of whether we are in the mood etc.. His eyes lit up lol ( he's always in the mood, the randy bugger ! )

Looked on the web yesterday for success stories and found a great site with tonnes of positive stories so has really perked me up again. One extremely lucky lady was pregnant within two months of the op !

Somehow I've lost the scrap of paper with the appointment details on Mon so am hoping DH can remember the time ( I'm so dizzy sometimes

terrier141 · 27/06/2008 12:13

Thats great news Katiedd - you might start to get somewhere now! I didnt think blokes EVER got fed up of it?! Think your right though, might be feeling under pressure, hes fine (well sometimes too keen!) the rest of the time! Just wish he'd stop asking me about cycles - at first i was really pleased he seemed to be taking an interest!

OP posts:
KatieDD · 27/06/2008 10:59

Bless him he probably feels under pressure to perform, I'm keeping him in the dark with regards to cycles i just know mine will get fed up very quickly.
He promises me he left a message yesterday for the consultant though.

terrier141 · 27/06/2008 10:02

I know you're right - just being a bit over-sensitive and irrational! Thing is he keeps asking me "are we on a red day?"!! Dont think the tying him up things gonna work.... then again might spice things up! lol! x

OP posts:
welshlinz · 27/06/2008 09:54

terrier, that will not do !! Tie him up if necessary lol

Maybe that would be a good idea as you suggested, to not tell him where you are in your cycle. Men don't seem to perform well under pressure, not like us girls

Don't think for one min he doesn't want another baby cos I'm sure he wouldn't have gone through with the op if he had any doubts ( I no mine wouldn't anyway ! )

terrier141 · 27/06/2008 09:36

I meant LAST cycle not LAZY cycle! Maybe thats where we are going wrong - we are too bloody lazy!!
