Vasectomy reversal success??

terrier, It wasn't my idea honest ! DH was so persuasive and lets face it, who could turn down a man wearing one of those sexy support straps

pink, no wasn't a fertile phase. According to fertilityfriend my fertile days start tomorrow but this was just a practise to see if everything worked lol

Don't think we'll start actively trying till next month but for now we'll have a few practise runs

Dh has been having pulling pains in his stomach the last few days but phoned the GP and he thinks it's just pressure on his tubes and nothing to worry about. He's in quite a lot of pain with it though

Ha ha linz you naughty girl! I dont honestly think it will do any harm - the consultant said it wouldn't make any difference to us and said the only reason not to do it is if it hurts too much - if not go for it! Are you in a fertile phase or was this just a practice run LOL

well girls, after all my good intentions of waiting 2 weeks, DH got a bit fruity last night and we tried things out !

Don't no if it was a good idea but all seems ok this morning anyway. Now we're wondering if anything came out because without being too graphic DH felt something happening but I had no evidence IYSWIM.

Hi Romy7 - I would agree with welshlinz, get booked in asap as length of time from original sugery is a big factor. Our story similar to yours, very rushed decision DH was 29years old we had 6m old baby (our only DC), traumatic birth, I was not happy but DH got a cancellation and was operated on within a few weeks of seeing doc to enquire.

Its a bloody heart breaking situation, I keep thinking "I just want one more" as I hate the idea of DS being an only child, I feel sick when I dwell on it too much

Terrier - yes we would be looking at IVF with I think (???) ICSI as IIRC ICSI is used where sperm are poor.

Hi Romy7, story seems fairly similar to mine although we only have the one child. The birth was extremely traumatic which unfortunately my husband had to watch and afterwards we decided we didn't want anymore. 2 years on, we looked into things, saw consultants etc and after finding a possible solution we changed our minds and hubby had op done on Friday for a reversal.

Not sure about the age thing but wouldn't have thought it would be a problem at 37. I'm late 20's but have recently read age doesn't matter in terms of success rates with the procedure anyway. Its mainly the amount of time that has passed since orginal vasectomy was performed. 5 years isn't too long so hopefully the operation would be successful.

One thing I have noticed since joining the forum is get it done asap as it can take 12 months for sperm to start coming through properly etc.. so get booked in as soon as !!

sorry to hijack, but i have a quick q and would appreciate opinions...

i'm 37, dh 37, 3 kids vasectomy 4 years ago immediately after birth of dc3 which was v traumatic.

at the time we panicked and thought we could never contemplate having any more dcs as dd2 was v v poorly and no-one knew why - dh had his surgery within 3 months of her birth with no counselling etc - i didn't even see doc, but it was a joint decision.

fast forward four years - i'm really wondering if we did the right thing - dd2's problems have now been attributed to birth hypoxia and she has made astounding progress, will always have sn but is a star... consultant has said i would be cs candidate for any future pg to lessen risk.

i'm wondering if i am brave enough to ask dh to discuss vr. or is it pointless at this point in our lives with age etc...?

hi all, great news about your puppy terrier. Glad to see she's settled in already. You are v. lucky she's been so good !! Perhaps she's more settled because she can sleep with your older dog x

DHs bruising is a bit better today but we've noticed a lump which is relly sore around the top of his scrotum to one side. Told him to phone the docs but typical man is refusing to acknowledge it may be a problem ! He thinks it was where the dog jumped up on him so has put it down to swelling because of that. I'll keep an eye on him though. Don't suppose your DHs had any problems with fluid type lumps ??!!

Just want him to get better now so we can try things out. Definately going to leave it for this month I think though as he's just so sore and I'm due to ovulate soon.

Thomcat - I would agree with terrier, the chances get lower the longer you leave it. We were advised to get reversal done even though we thought we wanted to wait till end of this yr to try (in the end we didn't and I am glad we didn't as things are a lot more complicated thasn we thought and delaying things could have made it worse) So in summary tell your friend to get nagging !!

Terrier - am feeling ok think the spotting seems to have stopped (will have to keep knicker checking! My god have I done some knicker checking this last 12 months!!) still a tiny bit crampy but OK. Need to get DH's further sperm tests done next then when we see the consultant at the end of august we can decide what to do next!

KatieDD _ nice to see you back! I know how you feel about the school bumps! A mother at my DS's school who has 3 DC'sand is 43 has just announced she is 12 weeks

hi thomcat, I was told the chances go down as you get older ( I think over 35 but not sure ) and also it's a lower success rate the amount of years since the op was performed. If the vasectomy was done over 5 years ago this will lower the success aswell. Still, thats not to say it won't happen after a reversal and we're all waiting for our first success story on this thread so keep us posted how she gets on.

Hi girls, sorry to but in but wanted to ask you to sum up for me the success rate? My BF has a BF who has had a vasectomy. He has 2 children, she's never had any. He's mid 40's, she's late 30's/ He's not prepapred to have a reversal for a couple of years yet. She'll start pushing f=him for one in a few months time I think. what are her chances of getting pregnant by him do you think?

Another bump has appeared at school am so jealous it's not funny.
Having said that my cycle seems to have settled down now so at least once the reversal has been done I know roughly when to get jiggy.
Am seriously considering a puppy myself come September I shall be home alone

hi terrier, both our dogs sleep outside in a kennel which has a run attached. I let them in during the day when I keep an eye on them but otherwise, they are outside. If I let our puppy sleep inside she would destroy everything !!!
Crate training is quite easy aswell I believe as it's based on the same principle. At night try a hot water bottle wrapped in one of your t-shirts so she can smell your scent and also a radio on low can help so they don't get too frightened. Be prepared for the howling on the first night though lol but don't give in and go downstairs or she'll do it all the more !

thats fab terrier, she'll be spoilt if she's anything like mine. DH managed to hobble outside yesterday to sit in the garden and my older springer, jumped up and caught him straight in the nuts !! Think thats set him back a day or so now as he's in agony again.

You will have to let us no later what you've chosen , springer or border terrier x

hi, pink, thats great news about your scan. You can relax again now that that's over with. Did they use an implement that resembles a turkey baster to scan you with ? If so, I bled for a bit after mine too. Not pleasant x
