Tips on how to not test before missed period

It's a tricky question whether we're "better off" with or without the tests as sensitive as they are nowadays. Whilst they lead to heartbreak when things go wrong, they also give hope that things can go right. Without early testing I wouldn't have known about 2 of the pregnancies I had in the last three years (one early MC of indeterminate date - I guess before 5 weeks, 1 CP when I was just a day late), and might not have known about the most recent one I lost at 6 weeks. So I would have thought it was 3 years of absolutely nothing, which I think would have felt even more helpless and grim. And knowing about losses mean that things can be done that help, e.g. proscribing progesterone etc.

Thinking about testing and how it has changed overtime. I feel it was so much easier and less stressful in my day!

No option to test that early. This came with the benefit that we had no idea of chemical or early miscarriage, so so much less heartache.
I was so surprised and also worried when my DiL announced she was 1 day pregnant, so relieved it all turned out.

We also didn't let anyone know about a pregnancy until 12 weeks and certainly didn't buy anything for the baby as that would be tempting fate.

Lack of early testing also meant less tracking too. Just waiting for symptoms. I was so busy and unfocused that when I did test and go to the GP I was 20 weeks pregnant!

That was delightful, a safe, viable and very short pregnancy.

No, it isn't. I've had a CP before, back in 2023 and the hormones afterwards weren't great! Hopefully this time it's not too bad as I think this is a little earlier. After the one in 2023 we stopped trying, until January this year we decided we wanted to start again. So I know not long!

Congratulations @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate. That's test looked plenty dark enough given neither of those tests are designed to pick up early pregnancy and are used from period onwards!

5 days early! That measures HCG of 10miu compared to the 20 or 25 of the standard.

Which one? Standard test or 5 days early?!

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate yeah FRERs and Boots tests are pretty similar. FRERs are slightly more sensitive, but the Boots early ones are obv easier and cheaper to get hold of!

Oh I can imagine! Wait until they're teenagers 🤣 I've got a 4 year old boy! I alternate between thinking I'd like another boy and I'd like a girl haha.. so I think it's a win win!

15 weeks now. Which is funny because I ovulated a week late but baby grew an extra week between 9w and 13w!

Give it an extra day if you can on the retest. I didn't have any progress on my next day tests and it bummed me out and made me anxious but the day after was more obvious

@curliegirliecould pick one up tomorrow, but probably easier to order a FRER. Are they the same (ish)? Im going to do the same two tests tomorrow, and if they show lines I've got a digital...

Absolutely @LaTable - I remember my One Step test with DD1 at 11dpo was an absolute squinter so I'm pretty sure that's darker than my next day test would have been. Everything crossed for you @Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate 🤞🤞🤞

Mine where lighter than that 12dpo! And about that 16dpo and didn't get dark until I was 5 weeks almost

And I can tell you baby is currently very wiggly after an afternoon nap on the sofa 😅...
If you need line progression, do it again in a couple of days, but the fact that it's dark enough to get an actual picture of is great!

Can you get a Boots one?
