Tips on how to not test before missed period

I tested early on my two pregnancies before and had two successful pregnancies then I had an early miscarriage and a chemical miscarriage last year and I was trying my hardest not to test early because of the heartbreak I experienced from the last two times. I’ve been trying this month and hoping I get a positive next month but I don’t know how I am going to stop myself from testing early, I worry so much after having the miscarriages anyone else finding it hard not to test so early x

I‘m now 4 days late. Last tested (negative) on Friday morning. I guess I have no idea when I ovulated.

EMC2022 · 22/03/2025 21:08

All negative here too at 9dpo. I have been so nauseous today so was so sure that might be a sign as I rarely feel nauseous in general.

I will test tomorrow again. My previous 2 pregnancies I had fairly obvious BFP at 10dpo so I think I will have given up slight hope if negative tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the morning sickness @LaTable. And glad to hear all is going well with you too @Laria19.

Hopefully we see some BFP soon in the group.

LaTable · 22/03/2025 18:57

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate never out until af turns up!
I personally love the thinking out loud, it's all a helpful distraction 🤣

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 22/03/2025 18:13

I had a negative on Thursday (8dpo ish) and this morning (10 ish) so wondering if I'm out. TMI, but we did BD when I had EWCM (which was present about a week after AF), and apparently due on 26th... sorry, I'm thinking out loud really trying not to discount myself too much 🤣

LaTable · 22/03/2025 17:55

Monday afternoon for me! You've got a few weeks still, correct?
I've got about a 6 hour round trip with the two girls tomorrow to see family that are in the country so that will keep be busy.

Absolutely feeling the morning sickness now, almost threw up today trying to eat soup that I was so looking forward to 😅 apparently all I can stomach is cake and sweets so that going to be great for my waistline 🙈🙈🙈

How is everybody else?
And bfp's or has af turned up?

Laria19 · 21/03/2025 18:47

Ah I dropped it 🙈I’m due a new phone soon so I guessed I dropped it around the right time 😂So good that your keeping well when is doctors appointment again x

Saying you're never ever late is just like begging for your period to just be late 🤣

How are things for you @Laria19 ?
@curlygirly ?

Well I gave in and tested the evening before my period was due - negative. However that was Tuesday and it’s now Thursday and I’m now a day late. I’ve tested three times and I’m negative on them all but I’m never, ever late - my periods are incredibly regular. I’m also feeling really quite pregnant, which would be so cruel if I’m not.

The last time this happened was October and I finally tested positive two days late. That pregnancy lasted a month or two. At the time I did wonder if the late positive was indicative of a pregnancy that never quite got going properly … But I’m second guessing myself a bit now. I’ve never tracked ovulation in my life so I don’t know if I have a 14 day luteal phase or not. I’m also in my late thirties and and I have read that the luteal phase can get shorter as you get into perimenopause. So basically, I am just confusing myself completely but I suppose it’s just possible that I could test positive eventually and it’s possible that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad sign.

EMC2022 · 20/03/2025 06:13

7dpo today. Hanging in there, mainly because I know testing at 7dpo would be completely pointless. I think the weekend will be very hard for me not to test. I'd love to do with with DH and our work schedules mean we don't see each other in the morning Monday to Friday.

I an unrealistic world, I'd love to wait til Tuesday when I am 12dpo so I know the result is probably a true one! Although the goal is to wait til AF is due, I think I would find an early or on time period sadder than a negative.

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 19/03/2025 17:19

Thanks @latable I definitely felt better after your comment yesterday! I impulse bought some tests today, arriving this eve. 8dpo tomorrow so might not use them yet, just like having them there!

LaTable · 19/03/2025 16:04

Hope everybody is doing okay today in all the various stages of ttc x

LaTable · 18/03/2025 16:09

I honestly think it varies from person to person too.
I get ewcm for a few days before ovulation and a handful of days after too. But I've read people who don't get any during ovulation and those who only get it before or only after or only the day of
I'd absolutely recommend lh strips if you want to get it more accurate, and if you don't have the time for dtd 4 times in a week 😅

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 18/03/2025 15:56

No I wasn't as it was first month! I've read something about EWCM being before ovulation, whereas I'm sure I read before that it was day of, and at the moment I can't even try and work out if we DTD on the right days 🙈

LaTable · 18/03/2025 15:48

Oh no! What makes you think your days are wrong? Are you doing lh strips?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 18/03/2025 15:41

I've read another thread today and think I might have got my ovulation dates wrong, so might be out this month 🙃 I'm not sure whether to test early so I can prepare myself for being wrong or wait for the disappointment of AF!

LaTable · 18/03/2025 14:21

We will see. No idea what the system is like here, so winging it!

I absolutely feel you on the standing in front of tests , I still do this and talk myself out of retesting every week 😅😅
At least if you haven't started yet, it's a good sign!

How old are you? If you're an older woman don't they tend to scan more as you're then a "higher risk" pregnancy?

Thistimearound · 18/03/2025 14:01

@LaTable good luck to you - looks like you’ll be seen and scanned regularly, which must be a relief. The idea of testing positive and then not knowing for months and months (when in my case, I’m already pushing it age wise) is almost unbearable.

I think I’m actually scared to test.. My mouth has felt full of saliva for the last few days, low level nausea, less energy…
I actually went to two corner shops at lunch, both of which had no tests, and then walked on to a Sainsbury’s Local which did have tests, but again only Clearblue which I didn’t buy. I’m telling myself that Clearblue are overpriced and that I don’t want a digital - I want to see two lines for myself if there are two lines and know the difference between a decent second line and a squinter…. but honestly, I’m feeling a bit pathetic that I keep standing in front of tests and then turning away.

LaTable · 18/03/2025 10:32

Was feeling good enough(no cramps for a few days) for a run this morning thanks for asking @EMC2022 !
Although it was nowhere near my normal time or length 😅 but I'll take what little I can get!

I think any positive test and then a negative does a number on you mentally. I remember after my chemical I tested like a fiend 😅 thankfully she stuck (dd1)
Fingers crossed for you this time, just gotta hold out a few more days!

@Thistimearound totally get where you're coming from with the less time to wait. Its just so hard when every pregnancy symptom is also a period symptom hahaha

You're absolutely right with the lines though, I really don't think either way round you can tell what's going to happen and you have to take it a day at a time. Similar to you, I've had really dark tests end in miscarriages and still tested super dark for weeks after. But this pregnancy my tests where actually really light in comparison to my successful pregnancies at this stage and have only just started to get dark after my 5 days of missed periods.
Love how our bodied just keep us guessing and completely anxious 😅😅
Good luck testing tomorrow though! 🤞

Thistimearound · 18/03/2025 10:01

I’m testing tomorrow when my period is due. I actually tried today but the pharmacy I went to only had clear blue digitals so I’m forced to wait for prime delivery. I purposefully didn’t stock up last week but now doubting myself.

I suppose for me I feel the incentive not to test early is just that once you test positive the clock starts ticking again, and I’d rather it just be another TWW until I can do a scan at 6 weeks rather than it being 18 days etc.

I understand what people are saying about chemicals and I think that’s good advice. I’ve only had one chemical (and two miscarriages) but with the chemical I tested very faintly positive around 10 days and then continued to have very, very faint lines until 5 weeks when I did bleed (obviously I was expecting this as the lines were so faint for so long I knew). So waiting then wouldn’t have helped but I know sometimes the waiting saves you from all that.

I suppose I’ve decided that after a few successful pregnancies and 3 not successful I’m just looking for a strong line and then I’ll leave it until I can get an early scan. I know a strong line isn’t indicative of anything - my last pregnancy the lines got darker very nicely and that meant nothing at all - but I suppose a faint line that doesn’t change is at least pretty conclusive, so if I can rule that out then I can just wait.

EMC2022 · 18/03/2025 09:32

Hello, I am 5dpo today. Definitely feeling more anxious to take a test this month after the CP last month. I thought my logic would take over and make me think early testing is bad after the CP but it seems to have done the opposite.

My hormones are all over the place after the CP also. Thankfully I won't be focusing on symptom spotting because I have had all the symptoms since ovulating anyways. Tender boobs, mild cramping etc. I never have any of those but my hormones are just wild since then.

How are you getting on @LaTable?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 16/03/2025 20:40

Well I will keep everything crossed for you, that this is your time!

LaTable · 16/03/2025 20:22

I think the first app is 8 weeks?
But with my 2nd I got a 6 or 7 week one due to multiple mcs and bleeding with her
My last was a scan at 4+5 at the doctors office as I no longer live in the UK, and this time I'll be 6+4 and hoping it's the norm to scan on first contact here? I have no real clue. Just praying it grows and I make it that far first and foremost
