I have a beautiful daughter now 2 and half and would like another child. I have had 2 miscarriages, one before my daughter and one after last September 06.

I really want another child but it's not happening........We have been trying for a year now, apart from one month we have really gone for it but to no avail.

I am taking Agnes cactus and shea oak, healthy living, only drink about 3 glasses of wine a week, stable weight of 9 stone. I don't know what else I can do to try and get things moving. I am 37 and just feel fedup about the fact that my time may be up....

Saliva testing is supposed to produce a fern like pattern, hence the other term used. Would stay well away from any testing of saliva; its not at all proven.

madame · 14/05/2008 17:19

Hi AttilaTheMeerkat, sorry what do you mean by ferning please?

lizziemun · 14/05/2008 07:07

Madame

I hope i can give you a little hope.

It took 18mths for me to get pg with dd1 when i was 35yrs. we had dd1 in 2004 we ttc when she was 10mths i had a miscarriage in 2006 and we finaly had dd2 in 2007 when i was 37yrs.

Madame,

Re your comment:-

"I had a laparoscopy because we had been trying for 2 years with no results, they did it as investigation and when it was all clear they just said we had unexplained infertility".

That is poor service on the part of the hospital. Bloody hell, they put you through surgery!. Surgery like this should not be done without good cause; this is often done if endometriosis is suspected. BTW did they not test your husband at that time?.

Don't bother about ferning; that will just tie you further up in knots. Best thing to do instead is go all out to determine the underlying cause/s of the fertility problem now. The GP is the first point of contact in this regard, he can refer you.

Thanks about the preseed tip, never heard of it so I will give it a try next month if no luck this month

The other thing that I heard, possibly on the Pre-seed website, is that saliva can be the wrong ph and can damage sperm. For that reason, I started to avoid oral sex when ttc and maybe that made a difference too? It is so hard to know what is medically sound advice and what is old wives' tales but I was willing to try pretty much anything!

bellabelly · 13/05/2008 17:34

madame, you insert it up your fanjo before sex as I recall!

  • this lot are selling trial size for 7 quid
madame · 13/05/2008 16:52

does anyone know what the referall could be for, ie. what tests they could run on me so I have more info on board when I do go to my gp?

OP posts:
madame · 13/05/2008 16:51

bellabelly is that something I take or my husband please?

God no, it's not selfish! When we decided to try for DB2, DH said that we wouldn't be disappointed if I couldn't conceive as we had DD1. Luckily he came to his senses pretty quickly and we agreed that although we would be very grateful for DD1, it would still be very upsetting to not have a baby that we had hoped for.

Of course everyone who has fertility problems would rather have one DC than none, but I think that you would have to have a heart of stone to TTC and not feel awful when it didn't happen.

We took ages to get pregnant, charted, etc etc - I used Pre-seed (a sperm-friendly lube that helps them swim) for the first time and that was the cycle I got pg with my twins. Might just have been coincidence but I would def recommend. I ordered mine off the internet, not v expensive, worth a try?

I am going to ask for a referral as I just want to do all I can to get pregnant. I want it so badly that I think I imagine I am every month. For example I have been feeling sick and heightened sence of smell for the last few days, and it's all in my head probably.

I try to relax, go for reflexology, swim but just want another baby. My husband said last night how great my daughter would be with a baby and that just makes me feel worse as I feel I am failing....

All my friends and family have two and seem to relish in that, I feel envious and I guess a bit jelous.

Feeling quite low today about the whole thing..

Attila - I've seen you post a lot about Agnus Castus, mostly negatively and while I agree it's probably better not to self-medicate can you explain why you are so against it? Did you use it yourself or do you know of people who have had real problems while taking it?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/05/2008 08:06

madame,

Good luck with your appointment on Friday. I hope you get a referral. Generally speaking, gynaes like to see women over the age of 35 if they have been ttc for more than six months without success.

Agnus castus can cause more LH to be made. If there is an underlying hormonal imbalance AC can make things worse. Glad therefore you've now stopped the AC.

Why was the laparoscopy done originally?. Did they suspect endometriosis?. I ask this as a lap is commonly done if this is suspected.

One semen analysis is not conclusive of there not being any possible male factor problems. You both need up to date test results - the results of any test done over six months ago should be discounted.

Your welcome, though it should read 'our' thread...there is no 'outing' of any kind on there .

How about your cycle? How regular are you and how much do you 'spot' in terms of cervical mucous, etc?

I had a laparoscopy 4 years ago before my daughter and that was all normal and my husband had a sperm count and that was all good. Is there something else my gp could be recommending I have tested?

I have made an appoitment with a female gp for next Friday, firts appotent I could get....
