Bad cramping 4 weeks pregnant

tinybabydancer · 28/01/2025 09:30

Hi girls
I found out I was pregnant last week and I have been cramping on and off since. Today I am 4 weeks 5 days pregnant and since last night the cramping has been really painful and intense. I thought this morning it would calm down but it's still awful.

It's too early for the doctors to do anything so I just wanted to see if anyone had experience the same?

I do also have advanced endometriosis and I had a laparoscopy end of October to help with fertility (and luckily I got pregnant after this)

I'm just finding this really overwhelming and hard. I've not had any spotting or blood, but every time I go to the toilet I'm worried it will be there.

Any advice would be amazing thank you :)

Haha you must be living in Scotland if haggis is on the menu 😅
yum! I love spicy food. The baby must have been doing some moving about haha. You will have to get the meals shipped over this time 😊

AudreyJL · 31/01/2025 21:33

I don’t remember exactly when it hit but I went off eggs, sausages, haggis, black pudding and milk chocolate. I started craving Malaysian food (probably because I was missing my parents who were back in my home country and couldn’t travel due to Covid restrictions at that time) and anything spicy 😂 plus dark chocolate which I used to hate

Irishgal1987 · 31/01/2025 19:24

So weird you ask that because I was talking about this today and trying to remember. Literally slap bang 6 weeks I was completely off coffee and I love coffee. So I’m enjoying the coffee these next few weeks before that likely happens again 😅 aside from that nothing really. I just didn’t really fancy dinners, wanted toast etc.
I craved Crunchy Nut cornflakes! What about you?

AudreyJL · 31/01/2025 18:40

Did you have any cravings or aversions with your first, @Irishgal1987 ? Kinda wondering what things will be like with this wee one haha. I know right, we forget so much. It's almost like our body is made to forget so we will conceive again haha

Irishgal1987 · 31/01/2025 18:27

It definitely will be reassuring once you have those appointments/scans. Makes everything feel so real.
My cramps are also bad at night. I can’t even remember was it the same with my first, it really is scary how much you forget!
Oh you poor thing, that is early for the heartburn and nausea. Hope it subsides. 1st trimester is rotten but things feel a lot better (usually) in 2nd trimester. I tried the love hearts but found they didn’t work for me. Gaviscon was the only cure!
Deffo agree with @AudreyJL rest and take all the naps! You are allowed 😊

AudreyJL · 31/01/2025 16:55

@Irishgal1987 I go private, it's about £55 in my area. Not sure if NHS would offer scans that early. I've not been to the GP yet. Will give them a ring this coming week to book myself in. Ah, the heartburn killed me with my wee girl too. My midwife told me that those Love Heart sweeties helps and they do bring relief albeit a short one

@tinybabydancer Just your uterus expanding and making space to be home for baby for 9 months - what I keep telling myself. Get all the sleep in!!! Take as many naps as you can! You deserve it!

tinybabydancer · 31/01/2025 15:03

@AudreyJL @Irishgal1987 thank you!! The doctors are calling me on Monday to book it in, feel like I can't relax until that haha but also if it's not right I guess it was never meant to be (or that's what I'm telling myself)

You know what the cramps are often worse for me at night too! And it is reassuring we are all feeling similar with it. I guess it means something is going on in there which can only be a good thing! 🤣

The heartburn and nausea has definitely started for me today WOW! The tiredness comes in waves. I'm definitely sleeping well at night that's for sure!!!!

I didn’t even know you could get an early 8/9 week scan. You definitely should if it’s available and leave of mind. Have you been to the GP yet? I must put my wee referral into the midwives.
Haha the tiredness definitely could be toddler life for me too 😅 ooh the sore nipples, ouch!
i am dreading the heartburn, I was killed with it last time!

AudreyJL · 31/01/2025 10:38

@tinybabydancer Wednesday was a pretty bad day for me with nausea and the cramps at night was pretty intense. Hope everything will go well at your 6 week scan and that your cramps will give you a good break! Undecided if I will book in an early scan around 8/9 weeks or if I will wait till the NHS scan at 12 weeks.

@Irishgal1987 Not too tired surprisingly haha which is good with an active toddler bouncing about. But my nipples are sore!! I'm 4 weeks 2 days so we're all definitely very close.

Irishgal1987 · 31/01/2025 06:39

5 weeks yay! Hope your 6 week scan goes well 😊
I think the fact we are all experiencing on/off cramps is positive, feels more normal if that makes sense. How’s the tiredness girls? I’m exhausted 😅
I’m 4 weeks 4 days, we are so close in dates!

tinybabydancer · 30/01/2025 22:46

@AudreyJL I feel so much better today actually thank god! Cramps seem to have gone (for now) but yes I'm also pretty bloated too. I just want to get to 6 weeks now and I'm having an early scan to check it's in the right place so fingers crossed!!!

Mad how close we are in dates!!

Feel like Tuesday was a bad day so hopefully I won't have more days as bad as that, but I guess it might be normal for me.

Yay for 5 weeks!! I'm about 4 weeks and 1 day according to the NHS due date calculator. I'm doing okay, very bloated still and bouts of nausea on and off. How are you besides the cramps?

tinybabydancer · 30/01/2025 11:43

Definitely makes it real with you get a digital doesn't it! I got 3+ on Monday I was so happy, but then the cramps were so bad on Tuesday I was worried I was about to lose it.

Luckily today things have settled! I'm officially 5 weeks today so just hoping things stay alright ❤️❤️❤️ how are you all feeling today?

Oh no, it’s bad when chocolate won’t even do!
what is a clear blue monitor? Never seen that before.
it does make it more real ❤️ the cramps are back this eve.

The clearblue monitor is a fertility monitor. The device itself is a one-time investment but you do need to continuously buy the test sticks (20 fertility sticks + 4 pregnancy sticks in each box). You put in the first day you start your period and the monitor will calculate base on past data your fertile window and prompt when you should test during a testing window which you set (or if it's your first, it will always prompt a test on CD6). You'll either get a low for low chances of conceiving, high for higher chance and peak with a smiley face meaning start of ovulation.

Hope your cramps are bearable. Mine seems to be worse at night x

I’m not sure how early nausea comes, where you sick with your first? I just feel “off” if that makes sense. Wanting all the chocolate haha.
feeling very real here! Still in shock I think!

I was nauseous with my first but only when hungry. I had such a huge appetite with her. But I don’t remember when that started. Nothing even seems appetising right now 😂 not even chocolates 💔 ah! A digital confirmation always just makes things even more real. I used a clear blue monitor and got this:

Me too. I was convinced I couldn't possibly be pregnant. But everything was fine. No bleeding is good.

I bled with my first when I was 8 weeks 5 days and that was scary. How far along are you with your DS? Hope everything is going well so far and you will have a healthy and happy birth

I’m not too bad. How are you?
Tired and bloated just. A bubbling feeling with odd cramps. Horrible taste in my mouth and dizzy. What about you?

I'm doing okay, bloated. Started feeling nauseous but maybe that's just in my head? Like I'm nauseous if I'm hungry but I can't get too full else I'm nauseous again so like I'm still hungry but can't manage to eat anymore but it seems too early for morning sickness

Irishgal1987 · 29/01/2025 15:48

@heroinechic thank-you very much for taking the time to write this. What an awful experience you had, how scary. Glad to hear you didn’t require surgery and were able to go on to have healthy pregnancies ❤️
I hadn’t really heard of ectopic pregnancy before so thank-you for this info.

Viviennemary · 29/01/2025 15:38

AudreyJL · 28/01/2025 17:49

Are your cramps period-like? I had period-like cramps with my first all throughout my first trimester and I just found out I'm expecting my second (4 weeks tomorrow roughly) and period-like cramps like AF is about to come on.

Me too. I was convinced I couldn't possibly be pregnant. But everything was fine. No bleeding is good.

heroinechic · 29/01/2025 15:34

@Irishgal1987 hey I saw you asked about symptoms for ectopic pregnancies so thought I'd add my experience. I had a small amount of brown bleeding for a few days around 4/5 weeks but wrote it off as implantation bleeding.

A few weeks later (around 7 weeks) I started to have pain on my right side, which was worse if I hunched over at all (think, putting socks on, tying laces etc). As the days went by it got worse and then I started to develop a shooting pain which felt like it was in my bum. I did actually take another pregnancy test and it was faint but there. It was my first pregnancy so I didn't realise that it should have been a strong line by that point! I just thought a line is a line.

By 7+4 I couldn't really stand up straight, or walk without pain. The brown bleeding returned. I went to the EPU for a scan and they found no pregnancy in my uterus, but a "mass" near my ovary in my tube. My HCG levels were measured and were low, I also didn't appear to have any internal bleeding and so they decided to take a "watch and wait" approach where I went in every 48 hours to see what my HCG levels were doing. That night I started bleeding heavily.

It was pretty shit but the saving grace of it all was that it was "resolving itself" and so I didn't need surgery to remove the tube.

I conceived my DD a couple of months later, and am currently pregnant again with a DS. I had one sided pain in both viable pregnancies that followed but it was a different kind of pain and didn't worsen when bending. I think it's just down to a cyst that forms on the ovary you ovulated from to produce progesterone. I also get ovulation pain now which I never had before!

@tinybabydancer @AudreyJL thanks so much ladies. Timing is perfect eh haha. I feel very very lucky though.
Hope your scan goes ok! Are there symptoms for ectopic pregnancies?
Aw the wee dote, she will be soooo excited when you reveal the secret 🥰

I hope she will be! How are you today? Any new symptoms?
