Period late, negative pregnancy tests, EWCM....wtf?!

Hi all,

I'm so confused about what is going on with my cycle currently so looking for any insights or words of wisdom!

For context I have a 3 year old son, and my periods have been slightly irregular since having him, usually fluctuating between 28 to 35 day cycles. I have had 2 cycles that were over 40 days but this is right before I was diagnosed with anemia which I am now treated for.

This month my husband and I DTD on cycle days 13 & 19 as have decided to start trying for baby number 2.

I don't fully track my ovulation but had EWCM from days 14-20 (always have about 6 days worth).

My period was due 5 days ago but nothing yet. I have had cramps like AF is coming for past 8 or so days with no bleeding or spotting plus also have fuller boob's and nausea.

I've done 3 x pregnancy tests which were all negative, the last one being done yesterday.

I just feel so confused as when my periods have been late before I usually get other PMS signs like sore boob's and acne but haven't had any of that. In fact my current symptoms are exactly what I had with my last pregnancy.

But I clearly am not pregnant as surely it would be showing up on a test by now?

Has anyone ever had something similar? I just don't know what to do as am out the country so can't go to doctors but have no idea what is going on in my own body!

I'm 6 days late. Had pink discharge yesterday morning when I wiped then nothing since then! Still bfns! Cramping for 8 days now and getting more and more bloated every day.
Xx

@eggybreaddie aaah sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I'm now 5 days late with no signs of AF or a BFP. Going to retest in a few more days, then if negative and still no period in 5 days going to speak to GP. Have read that sometimes people don't get positive results on a home pregancy test but do get it through a blood test. Seems unlikely but at these stage what happens next is anyone's guess! How late are you?

I'm going through something similar. Just want my period or BFP.

@newrubylane that's a really useful insight to have. Part of me wonders of my iron levels have dropped again and maybe that's part of the issue. If this had happened a few months ago I wouldn't be bothered but just gutted it's happening as soon as we started trying.

@Miracledust29 keep me posted on how you get on! Sounds like we are I'm very similar situations.

I'm anaemic (and taking iron) and my cycles are usually short but then occasionally I'll have what seema to be a skipped period, so a 60+ day cycle. During that time I tend not to get any pre-menstrual symptoms, and feel weirdly neutral, plus the ewcm seems to last for quite a while. It feels like my body gets stuck hormonally mid-cycle for a while, iyswim? I always test when I. Late to be certain, but I always kind of know because I just don't 'feel' pregnant. I get my period eventually and usually goes back to normal-ish next cycle.

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 15:56

It's stressful isn't it. I'm 35 so I'm with you, it's definitely not as easy. My cycles are definitely longer more like average 35 days but I don't think it's not until you really start trying and tracking stuff that your cycles really can vary.

I was pretty certain when I ovulated but who knows we could have actually been later than we thought. I guess only you know how you feel. I definitely feel something's different so I'm going to leave it until the weekend and try again that way I'll be over a week late. Hang in there stranger things can happen. It would be so much easier if AF would just show up though so you can move onto next cycle!

I think you can get more ewcm before your period comes randomly, which is confusing! I get it again at 5dpo now since having my little one when I never did before. I guess without knowing exactly when you ovulated you could either just be a few dates late, or you ovulated a lot later than you thought and it’s too early for a test?

Thank you for your response. It's all so confusing isn't it!

I was very fortunate with my last pregnancy that I conceived first cycle so didn't experience any of this confusion.

I guess I have to accept it's 3 years later and I'm now pushing 37 so unlikely to be as smooth this time.

I will test again in a few days if nothing and thinking maybe I'll have to talk to doctors about a blood test if nothing happens soon?

Sorry I can't help but I'm currently going through exactly the same and similar dates to you. All the symptoms in the world cramps, bad nausea, an abundance of milky cm, 4 days late but nothing not even a hint of a line so I feel your frustration you just want to know for sure but feel as though your body is telling you something different.

Sorry to hear you're going through the same. It's so frustrating isn't it! Are you usually quite regular then?

I don't think I've ever wanted my period more. I think I've accepted I'm unlikely to be pregnant so have now moved onto worrying about why my cycle has gone to wonky, especially as we have just decided to start trying!
