Anyone else trying to get pregnant 2

I have only been trying a couple of months but have very irregular cycles, however, I went to the doctors just to register my concerns with trying to get pregnant when I could not tell when the most fertile time is. Doctor was very encouraging and gave me two immediate options - keep trying regularly or stop trying for a couple of months and take some tablets to regulate my cycle. I opted to keep trying as I didn't really want to stop! Also discussed future options if I wasn't pregnant in 6 months. I would say go to the doctor just to get your worries noted on your records just in case there is a problem later on.

Despite last night's message I couldn't stop myself using the pg test in my office drawer this morning when I got into work. My excuse was I felt really queasy as I was walking to work. Negative. At least it's putting a brake on my little fantasies, though I've still got this niggle: maybe the test was wrong, etc. (But it was one of those ones that you're supposed to be able to use 3 days before your period is due, so it probably is accurate.)

Ho hum. Maybe I will go to the doc if it hasn't worked this month and try and get myself checked out a bit. How long did those of you who are using medical assistance wait before seeing a doctor? Did you wish you'd gone sooner? Anyone regretted going to a doctor about fertility things? I am a bit nervous about getting on a medical treadmill that will be hard to get off, but if there is something wrong I don't want to waste loads of time.

Yes, no luck for me this time, but I'm trying to remain optimistic that at least I'm on the Metformin and have a plan....

Bayleaf - thanks for the link to the cheap pregnancy/ovulation tests - I got loads and they came the next day - brilliant! So I'm going to do lots of ovulation tests this month to see if the Metformin's kicked in - should have by now. I've never really got a line before (apart from a very faint line last month), so we'll see...

Hi all. Good luck to you Jane. Sorry it didn't work out this time, dot. (I assume by now you'd have posted to tell us if it had.)

I'm currently waiting, expecting my period to start Tues/Weds/Thurs, and resisting the temptation to do pregnancy tests. (Because I know I won't really believe it even if it is negative unless I actually start to bleed, so what's the point?) Last month I was taking my temperature and got the fall in temperature the morning of the day my period started. Not sure if that was better or worse than just starting at work with no warning.

How's everyone else doing?

I don't know what to think this month. I had a scan and blood test today, and the good news is I'm ovulating on the left side this month. What's less encouraging is the timing - they wanted to do the iui treatment on Wednesday and Thursday this week, but dh is away on Thursday so we can only do Wednesday. Also he ought to do his bit at 10:30 on Wednesday, but he's got a meeting so it's going to have to be 8 o'clock. The nurse says they can store it, but 10:30 would be the "optimum" time. Anyway, it's the best chance we've had since October, it's just disappointing that we can't do everything possible to maximise our chances. This whole business is such a struggle always - it feels like wading through mud.

hi dot. I totally sympathise with your impatience. I am currently in fifth cycle of TTC and had been feeling sick for a few days. Did a test almost a week before I was due yesterday!! Ever since then I promptly stopped feeling sick and now feel quite despondent again.

Hi all and thanks for the messages! It was an inseminate and hope month, although the first try now I'm on Metformin. I've got to give it 3 goes and if there's no joy, I can then go back to my GP to ask for a referral to a specialist doc. to get Chlomid. So, 1 down, 2 to go....

Honestly though, I'm so impatient - I discovered this spare pregnancy test in my drawer at work, and all day yesterday I was convincing not to use it yet, but to wait until next week... but I only managed to hold out until the afternoon... and it's so depressing when the box is completely clear and there's no line at all - even when held up to the window..!

I have never had a positive result until a week after my period is due if it's any consolation.

Dot1, that was dp, this is you. Don't give up hope just yet, you never know...my positive results never showed up until at least three-four days after my period was due. Fingers crossed for you.

grommit, if you ovulated 2 weeks ago surely period should be due now?? I'm confused!

After ovulating (hopefully) 2 weeks ago and trying to concieve - I find that I have some spotting today (brownish) and slight discomfort- my period is not due for 2 weeks - does anyone have any ideas - thanks

Ho hum.... just done a test and there's no line... It is only 12 days after inseminating, but when dp was pregnant, she got a positive result 10 days after, so I'm assuming it's not worked this month.

Bayleaf, no, I don't post on the CARE message boards. Well, I did post once ages ago (but not as Jane101) as there was a thread specifically about iui. Now I've discovered Mumsnet I haven't actually looked at the CARE site for ages.

mmm, yes - I seem to have a completely indestructable menstrual cycle which happily chugs along producing eggs every month, to no effect whatsoever!!

Bayleaf, yes - I've just booked a scan for next Friday (28th) and we're hoping to do the iui the following week. I had cyclogest pessaries last time we were doing this (3 years ago - resulting in ds) but the consultant hasn't suggested it this time. By-the-way, I'm being treated by CARE as well.

sex every 48 hours. And apparently it helps if you orgasm after your partner to help the sperm on its way. Some people recommend lying with their legs against the wall for ten mins as well. I've heard it helps to take multivits with zinc as well. Oh yes, and relax and enjoy.

The ovulation test sticks didn't work for me either....any tips on improving my chances of conceiving - for many reasons it would be great if I could conceive this month and the next 7 days are my best chance....
