Anyone else trying to get pregnant 2

elliot, I don't think they do a blood test, but maybe I should ask. My instructions were to do a home test on Saturday, and keep on with the cyclogest unless I got both a negative result and a period. They did ask me to let them know the results, so maybe there're expecting me to contact them and would then suggest a blood test. I don't know, 3 days doesn't seem late enough to be significant. I think if I'm still in limbo in a few days' time I'd better contact them.

Jane, don't your clinic do a blood test for hCG? At least then you have someone telling you for definite....are you just supposed to decide when to stop the cyclogest yourself? this must be incredibly frustrating for you.

I get a blood test on Thursday but I will definitely home test before then. If I'm sensible I will wait till Thursday morning...

Hi elliot, I'm with you in limboland unfortunately. I'm now 3 days late, so by this morning I'd convinced myself Friday's negative test was wrong. I lay there from 5:30am waiting for it to be time to get up, so I could go and do another test - negative of course. Why do we do this to ourselves? No other pregnancy symptoms and I know Cyclogest can affect the length of your cycle so I'm sure that's all it is.

Is it Thursday you're due to test?

I am very much stuck in limboland - no more cramps so keep getting optimistic and find myself on flights of fantasy about choosing buggies etc...then have to bring myself back to reality. hmmm, can definitely handle despair better than hope...this is agonising!!

This feels a bit like trying to get pregnant when you can only have sex once every six months. But more expensive of course

bayleaf and elliot - thanks for understanding. Bayleaf - you're exactly right. I know perfectly well it hasn't worked but there is just that small chance.... My period hasn't started yet today (but I don't think it's actually late yet - based on the iui timings it was due today). Another negative test today (do they really expect us to wait 3 days between tests?).

Elliot - it was a natural cycle, which does make it better in a way. I'm sure it's worse with ivf when you've been through such a lot just to get to the point of trying. We can't try next month due to dh's schedule, so I'm working on convincing myself that another January baby (3 years exactly after ds) would be perfect.

I did a test 4 days before period was due - negative. Too bloody impatient to wait until proper time. Very strong "negative" line. Have felt quite sick but no sore boobs like with dd. Spose I just have to wait until period's properly due now. Can you get a strong false negative if you take the test too early?

Oh Jane I'm sorry...but still no period?? Are your IUIs natural cycle or do you need to take drugs (you probably already 'said' but I can't be bothered to scroll down...)? will you be able to try again next cycle if it really hasn't worked this time?

I'm as sure as I can be that it hasn't worked for me. Lots of period like cramps, which I definitely didn't have last time. So feeling a bit mis today and sort of hoping my period shows up to put me out of my misery - not due to test for another 7 days.

hi elliot. Yes - it's 14 days today. I did another test (of course) which was also negative. There's still a chance, but realistically I don't think it's worked this time. Oh well.... (again). I hope you soon have better news.

hi Jane, sorry about the negative but I guess it doesn't rule anything out at this stage....frustrating isn't it? Are you 14 days post IUI now? Do you get a blood test from your clinic?
I'm finding time dragging already.

Negative test today - but then period's not due until tomorrow, so that doesn't really prove anything. Yesterday, I was sure I was pregnant as I had a really strong taste in my mouth. Today, that's gone and I'm pretty sure I'm not. Tomorrow - who knows? Bother!

Good luck elliot. I also know someone who only had 1 egg, 1 embryo and now has a 4 yr old dd. And of course, my own son is a result of just 1 egg (through iui).

Bayleaf, you're right there's no way I'm lasting until Saturday before testing. I've now convinced myself I've got a strange taste in my mouth and that could be a symptom of pregnancy. But I suppose it could also be due to the cyclogest. Anyway, at least I'm getting towards the end of the 2ww now. You've still got it all to come.

well, things have been pretty touch and go this treatment cycle...I thought I was heading for around 7 eggs, but at egg collection only managed a pitiful three....and we now have just one embryo to transfer tomorrow - let's hope its a fighter!!

Good luck for your test jane101, and hope your period starts soon, bayleaf. Will your FET be medicated or natural cycle?

dot1, I'd go for it....remember its better to be too early than too late (sperm live longer than eggs, so ideally you want the sperm to be there before you ovulate....) Good luck, it must be very stressful with your donor being so far away.

yes, listen to your body - it is more reliable than an OPK. It made me really upset and confused when I didnt get the line to match what seemed to be ovulation. Like you i didnt tend to believe it without proof. But in the end i went with my body rather than the OPK and I got pregnant. There are a couple of really good websites incuding fertilityuk.org ( i think) which take you through the whole thing.

Thanks Buttercup - I'm so confused! No line at all this morning (or possibly very very faint), but lots of lovely muucus! I definitely feel like I'm ovulating/just about to - like my body's telling me I am, but no line.... The problem is, do I do a 500 mile round trip this weekend, leaving ds and dp for a night and messing up our weekend plans just because I think I may be, but with no 'proof'?

Hi Bayleaf, I'm supposed to test on 22nd March, but probably will give it a go a couple of days before then if I think there's any hope. However, I am now feeling quite sore inside in a pre-menstral sort of way and don't have any pregnancy sort of symptoms Still too soon to tell really though.

hi dot. not to worry I became obsessed with how dark the OPK blue line was and ended up spending a fortune. It stayed a feint/medium blue for about a week never getting as dark as the control line. In the end, by using other methods (mucus and temperature) I realised that it wasnt actually telling me when i was ovulating. have you tried the mucus method? i think it is supposed to be the most reliable. It worked for me.

Oh God - sorry this is turning into a very boring 'line' thread..... Today I've got a slightly darker line - but nowhere near as dark as the test line...

Still, this could be good, as I can only go up and inseminate at the weekend, so maybe I'll get a stronger line tomorrow/friday....

Dot - don't panic! I usually get a faint result, then a blank day, and a proper positive the day after, so keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow.
