It may just be my computer ( no broad band in the sticks!)but the other thread was taking a long while to load and accept new messages so maybe we can start again here...

bayleaf, good to hear from you - I was wondering if you'd gone underground for this cycle...
Hope the scan goes ok tomorrow, at least it is relatively gentle after that (no yukky injections!)
Best of luck.

bayleaf · 15/04/2003 18:25

Oh and I've decided the thread is too long for those of us without Broadband - I'm starting a new one!

HI Dot - yes we're definitely 'old timers' now - and Jane101 of course!
I have my down reg scan tomorrow to check my system had been 'turned off' then HRT tablets for a couple of weeks after to prepare the uterus before the FET. Fingers crossed!
I know exactly what you mean about being almost relieved when you think maybe you haven't ov'd and it's a month when you can't try anyhow - given that everyone misses ovulating now and then it's really good luck if you happen to have an anovulatory cycle when you weren't going to try anyhow!
Welcome Bunny - I've been trying for 20 months now so really know how frustrated you feel. OPKs are useful but as dot says temperature charting is also invaluble. I know it seems a lot of hassle - and you always think '' oh I'll be pregnant before I've even built up enough picture for it to be of any use'' but it is a good insurance policy just in case! I got pregnant 4 times - mostly taking 3 months ( once 6 months after an 18 week miscarriage) and then this time nothing - and it's all down to dh apparently so you really can never tell what'll happen....
Good luck anyhow

Flippa - sorry it's not good news - it's so devastating when your period comes. I think I must be an eternal optimist though, 'cos I've always got hope, even though it's never happened for me (yet...).

Bunny2 - I've used/am using ovulation wee sticks, but I don't get much of a line, and previous conversations on this thread from other people have said the same thing. Although dp got big strong lines when she was ovulating.

I'm finding the temperature thing to be of more use to be honest - it showed me when I ovulated last month, and this month I don't think I have at all, which has almost cheered me up because I couldn't actually have a go at conceiving anyway..!

Flippa · 15/04/2003 09:28

My period arrived this morning
Oh well, thank goodness for Mumsnet - the mutual support is fantastic. We will all be trying for New Year babies now!!!

bunny2 · 14/04/2003 18:33

thought I'd join this thread. Trying for about a year now and nothing has happened. I have just bought wee-sticks to pinpoint ovulation, is anyone else using them?

Meanmum · 14/04/2003 17:02

Flippa - I've created another link so we don't keep hijacking this one. Just give me a second to type what I want in it.

Flippa · 14/04/2003 16:49

Thanks - am being pushed too much at work and had to go to the loo to cry today as am so completely and utterly shattered that my brain just isn't working. How do you make it work with working full time and looking after an 8 month old?

Meanmum · 14/04/2003 15:58

Flippa - hope to hear some good news even though your last mail indicated it might not be. Remember we're all in the same boat and will certainly be understanding all of the emotions you have whatever the outcome may be.

mum2toby · 14/04/2003 11:31

Jemma7 - sorry about your disappointment..... next month could be it though!

Jemma7 · 14/04/2003 11:25

Period arrived this monring - Really sad - Although it was a bit of a long shot really thought this could be our month! Know what u mean about eeryone else falling pr by mistake - my best friend had a beautiful girl in February and Sister-in-law is due any day now with 2nd (both complete accidents)!
Glad it's not just me that has this problem though!
Beta luck next time

Flippa · 14/04/2003 09:25

I am beginning to get tummy cramps so am thinking its not to be this month. Will know for definite at the weekend. But am tired and skin gone all dodgy so the signs are all there!

dot1 · 14/04/2003 09:01

Hi - I'm still here, but a bit miserable as I haven't been able to try this month what with one thing and another. It's been really frustrating the past few days, thinking I'm probably ovulating, but can't have a go..! (but not as frustrating as waiting that 2 weeks to find out).

Bayleaf - how are you doing..? I feel like we're the old timers...

Flippa · 11/04/2003 15:19

Thanks heaps, meanmum! Sound advice but probably analagous to flogging a dead horse where I work! Think only solution might be a change of direction as not really happy in my line of work anyway. We should really get back to the subject of the thread which is ttc....! Period due end of next week - though not holding out any hopes! Am feeling really tired though!!!

Meanmum · 11/04/2003 14:53

I know exactly what you mean. I am always feeling guilty for not spending enough time with ds. I am happy to be working full time though as I am not a stay at home mum. I wish I was and admire those that are but realise it's not for me and best for ds who gets quality care and attention from his childminder with no ratty mother.

Getting home at 6.45 is late. I try to pick mine up no later than 5.30 but know that isn't always possible. Definitely look into the new flexible working laws which came into play on 1 April 2003. If you have been with your company for a period of six months or more it could really work for you. It means you don't have to work part time just flexibly.

Can you do any work from home? I'm lucky I sit in an isolated office from my boss and team members so no one knows if I'm here or not and can often be found at home with my feet propped up, tracksuit on and computer on my lap. TV is naturally on but muted when anyone from work calls on my mobile. Doesn't sound like you can do that.

If you want info on the flexible working laws I downloaded some interesting stuff which gives the business ideas on how to deal with it. I can send it via email if you want. Looking at it from the businesses perspective means you can have all your arguments ready and a solid reason why.

The part I find hard is when I'm sitting on the couch at night but should actually be doing something like, dishes, ironing, mending, paying bills and what have you. You need to become ruthless at work. Cut out all the things you do that aren't your job and concentrate on what is important to you and your role. Make sure you have your lunch hour and do your running around during that time. Carry a freezer bag in your car so you can get your groceries and store them while at work. Make sure your boss is fully aware that if you work through your lunch you are doing so because you need to go earlier in the day or during the week.

It sounds like I am being a real dictator but just remember it is very easy for a business to take advantage of you and if you don't look out for yourself they won't. I work in human resources so even though we are supposed to care about you we actually don't as we have to do what the business wants and the business always wants the most cost effective answer.

Weekends are hard if you need to do something for the house or even want time out for yourself as you do feel like you are taking away something from your child that they should have. I think our times are harder in the choices we have to make. We have it easier with husbands/partners that generally do more or are expected to do more but when it comes to making a choice and believing you made the right choice is always difficult.

Are women programmed to feel guilty for everything. I think we are and I am sure I'm one that doesn't actually suffer that much guilt. I always have to reason things out though.

Flippa · 11/04/2003 14:22

Just exhausted. Returned to full-time work four weeks ago and although the hours haven't been too bad yet - get home most days at 6.45pm, am permanently exhausted and feel like I am short-changing dd. I feel permanently racked with guilt and am being pulled in too many directions at work, and at home. Live for the weekends, wish the weeks away and there is therefore a lot of pressure on the weekends to have so -called quality time! Do you know what I mean? And on top of that, would really like to be pg!

Meanmum · 11/04/2003 14:17

You're both right. Always seems to be everyone else falls pregnant by pure accident when you are trying and I suppose it goes vice versa as well.

Flippa - happy to hear about your rotten day if you want to start another thread. I might overtake it though as I'm not happy in my job and am currently job searching. At least I can commiserate with you.

Flippa · 11/04/2003 14:14

Unfortunately when you are ttc, you always seem to hear from people who get pg 'without even trying' which doesn't help really. Having returned to work full-time (much to my annoyance, boss said no to part-time), am finding it really tricky to summon up the energy in the evenings to ttc. Its a vicious circle, isn't it? Don't mind me, am having a low day today...

Azure · 11/04/2003 08:41

Hi - I'm still ttc although haven't been trying very hard, just going with the flow. Given the infrequent times we have sex it's hardly surprising I haven't "graduated" yet. With the luxury of choice I would prefer a spring baby, and so will start trying more actively soon. As DS is now 19 months the potential age gap is greater than I initially expected, but it took a long time to get over a difficult first year of DS!

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 21:33

Flippa - sounds like we had pretty much the same experiences. My birth was brilliant due to fantastic epidural. I always said I would take pain killers as I had no intention of being a martyr. Loved every minute of the pregnancy and the delivery. Also have a friend who was trying at the same time as me and who is now nearly 3 months pregnant. Love her to bits but annoyed that I haven't done that to. She had sex once that month and got pregnant. Bugger. Will definitely report back.

Flippa · 10/04/2003 14:10

Meanmum - to be honest, we have also been trying pretty much from when DD was born as we weren't using any contraception. However, was feeding DD up until end of Dec so only really feel we started properly then. Really thought it would happen quickly and its compounded by having long periods which means I have to wait an extra week to see whether we have hit the jackpot or not. A lot of my friends have fallen pg over the past few months too, without having to try too hard and even though its early days, am beginning to wonder if there might be a problem.
My first pg was great - no real problems except rib pain and indegestion from about wk 26. Had a really good birth experience, (helped by wicked epidural!!) no stitches and have a really laid back baby which is probably why I am SO keen to get going again!
Have a whole stash of tests waiting. Tried to do the OPKs but couldn't get on with them and don't want to be doing the temperature thing just. Want to resist it all getting a bit 'mechanical'. Bd every night for about 2.5-3 weeks is a bit tiring though!
Keep in touch and let me know how things pan out for you!

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 14:01

Flippa - my ds is 14 months and to be honest we've been trying since the day after he was born. Not literally but close.

Trying in earnest since Christmas doing it at the right time or so they say. I read this thread initially in the hope that there was a golden answer out there but knowing there wouldn't necessarily be.

I'm due any time from the 28th of this month but I figure it will be the 1st May and will definitely keep you posted. I did buy one of those temperature kits from Boots but upon reading it realised I should have been doing it since about Christmas to have a good idea and got frustrated with the idea that I might not be able to guess for another three months so haven't even started using it. I just want to fall pregnant now. I don't want to wait, I want it to be perfect like the first one, preferably with no morning sickness in the first three months and so on. Typical to want it all I suppose.

Oh yeah, I was officially on the pill when I fell pregnant with ds but actually forgot to take it for three days in a row.

How was your first pregnancy? Definitely keep me posted as I will be ecstatic for you if you are and understand how you are feeling if you aren't. Are you like me and just want to bite the bullet and get it over and done with?

Flippa · 10/04/2003 13:54

Meanmum, have also been trying in earnest since late December to no avail yet. Fell pg with dd whilst on the pill and am confused as to why its taking a while the second time around. Good to hear from someone else going through the same sort of experiences. My periods so far have been very long - 32-36 days but have been trying for most of the month, just in case! Due on Easter so we shall see. Hate the disappointment each month.
Do let me know how you get on. Am doing a lot of internet research at the moment and filling my head with lots of worries and doubts...
DD is 8months, by the way!

Meanmum · 10/04/2003 13:06

I'm trying to get pregnant at the moment. We've been trying since Christmas and doing it around the time we are supposed to with no luck at all. I'm getting frustrated now as I thought it would be a breeze as we fell pregnant three times completely accidentally with ds being the result of the third time.

My period is regular but it comes on the first day of the month as opposed to a regular number of days. Don't ask me why but it even adjusts itself in March due to the short month in February. We're going to start trying again tonight (hope that's not too much information) and keep going until very close to the end of this month in the hope it works this time.

All advice welcome.
