So we have a one year old. It took us 2 years to conceive which was tough but I know others have had longer and more difficult journeys 🙏 I am now 37 so really hoping things happened a bit quicker this time.

Looking for experiences of anyone who took a while to conceive first time round but second happened quicker?

So looks like it’s happened really quick for us this time around. I would say this is our first / second month of trying! I’m shocked but delighted!

Saw this after I posted. Congratulations x

Joleyjojo · 06/11/2024 21:03

I had fertility treatment for my first. Found out I was pregnant when my little one was 5 months and only BD once since the first was born. 😂

Took 6 years and 2 IVF rounds first time. Decided to try naturally before more IVF and caught straight away- still in disbelief.

Good luck

Shoemadlady · 29/10/2024 23:33

It took me about 9 months to conceive my first and then I caught on my first attempt with the second 😬

Copperoliverbear · 29/10/2024 23:28

Took four years to fall for my first child after seven miscarriages and then fell for my second child very soon, there is only just over a year between them, really wasn't expecting to fall so soon. X

LifeD1lemma · 29/10/2024 23:13

I know 3 couples who tried for years and had to have IVF for their first, and then conceived their second accidentally when dc1 was very small, thinking that they didn’t need to use contraception.

tangobravo · 29/10/2024 23:09

Yes, 18 months with first, 2 with second

bakewellbride · 29/10/2024 22:56

My friend took 4 years (yes really!) to conceive her first but just a few months to conceive her second. Both planned but the second was still a shock to her, she was expecting it to take at least a year I think!

Cosycardiganandteaandtoast · 29/10/2024 22:51

#1- 3 years
#2- 4 months
#3- 6 months
#4- still ttc 18 months+ now lost count!!

redwinechocolateandsnacks · 25/10/2024 12:14

Yes, 4 years and IVF (1 cycle) for the first at 42. Became pregnant again naturally at 43.

AmberBeaker · 25/10/2024 12:11

Yes
9 cycles for first
TTC 2nd I conceived first try had a very early loss at 5.5 wks and then conceived immediately again. So basically got pregnant twice in 8 wks after not being able to for almost a year!
It was like my body had figured out how to do it
Good luck!

DramaAlpaca · 25/10/2024 12:11

It took eleven months to conceive DS1.

I was still almost exclusively breastfeeding when we decided to try for a second child.

That time I conceived literally first try. There's only 16 months between them.

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to it.

I conceived my first within 2 cycles but it then took 4 years to conceive my second (not even a hint of a BFP in that time).
No known medical issues.

Good luck

Edited

I would agree on the no rhyme or reason part I honestly think half the time TTC is a game of pure chance.

I don't understand the wondering, you should know that everything exists and everything is possible in this field :) good luck

I definitely think for many women, once your body ‘knows’ what to do, the second can be easier to conceive. We tried really hard with TTC our first, tracking and timing everything. Didn’t take years, but more months than my nerves could bear.
Second pregnancy wasn’t planned (or at least the timing wasn’t). DS had just turned 1 and I’d not got my cycle back (still BF) and obviously we weren’t careful enough, especially as DS had taken a while. I was 36 when he was conceived, and 38 with DD.

I know this isn’t the case for everyone and secondary infertility was heartbreaking for my friend. But I’ve read more stories of the second being quicker/easier overall, this was definitely the case for us x

I hope this is the case 🙏 I also hear a lot of these experiences where pregnancy seems to reset everything and it’s easier to conceive next time.

I have PCOS and only had about 4 periods a year, took 2 years or so to get pregnant first time (in my 30s), second time it was immediate. Apparently it’s common for pregnancy/giving birth to change things for PCOS women. Since having babies I had monthly periods until menopause in my mid 50s.

I never knew that, very interesting!

DD took 5 years and a round of IVF DS was a spontaneous conception when she was 18 months old as we never bothered with contraception. I breastfed for the first year and our sex life was very hit and miss given we had a young baby so he really was a very welcome surprise.

Wow that is amazing! I am also EBF my 1 year old. Thank you for sharing 🙏

Everyone is different as all these stories are so interesting to read
Took me 8 cycles to conceive my first, I then had the depo injection last December 3 months after birth then again in March and decided to not have anymore as we wanted our babies close age. My AF returned end of July and I conceived again this September on my 3rd cycle

Yes, took 8 months for first, others were on first cycle trying - conceived over the next 5 years. I put the wait for the first down to a fertility lag coming off the implant. I didn’t go back on hormonal contraception after that, used natural family planning (was ok with possibility of failure!).
