14 dpo bfn is there still hope ?

Hi all , I hope someone can give me a little bit more insight and baby dust

I am currently 14 dpo I tested this morning and got a bfn

At 6dpo I had severe sharp twangs and stabbing pain on and off in the same spot in my right side near my groin area

Since 6dpo I've had cramping which died down and I get the occasional ache and cramp daily on and off
I have been more tired and less motivated
My boobs have been tender to touch I felt like a sudden pain in the right boob quickly
And today my left boob felt itchy

Af was due today but hasn't arrived

Am I out or is there still some hope of a bfp in the next few days ?

I hope to hear soon 🥺🥺 xx

I'll test again on the 11th of this month I'll be 2 weeks late then

And if it is still negative I'll have to go to the doctors and ask for a telephone appointment to book me for a blood test pregnancy test

I'll try and forget about it until next week
Maybe it's a phantom pregnancy lol

Best of luck OP, my cycle was 4 days longer last month and even those 4 days got my hopes up so I completely understand. It's such a difficult time, look after yourself and do speak to your GP if you have any concerns - they will understand

Basically, there is no such thing as a 'late' period. Mensturation occurs a fixed number or days after ovulation - for myself it is 13 days. So if I ovulate on day 15 of my cycle, (and let's just say that's the 15th of August) my period will be due on day 28 of my cycle (28th August in this example). Now if ovulation is late, or at least later then it generally is, I might ovulate on day 20, the 20th August. My period is then due cycle day 33 - 2nd September.

If I hadn't tracked ovulation (as you hadn't) I would be assuming my period was late on the 28th August, wheras in reality it's not even due til the 2nd September.

And so, the period is never late - but the ovulation can be. Your period will always arrive around 10 -16 days after ovulation (varies woman to woman).

If you did not track ovulation, it's impossible for you to know how many DPO you are, or when to expect your period.

You might even be due to ovulate today, which would then potentially lead to a positive test in two weeks time. However, if that were to happen, that doesn't mean you've been pregnant since 16th august (when you believed you were ovulating). Your pregnancy would likely be dated by your last menstrual period, and doctors would assume from that that you DID conceive around the 16th - but after a scan it would be too small and they would realise you actually conceived around the 9th September.

I really hope that makes sense to you. There's nothing wrong with a long cycle if it's not every month. The only other alternative is that this month you have not, and will not, ovulate. If this is the case you'll likely still have a small bleed and then go again. This is called an anovulatory cycle, and again, as a one off, is not a concern.

I just want to add to this just for clarification as I think it's an interesting topic.

What you say is usually the case but some things can impact the length of the luteal phase - including clearly progesterone supplements but also some supplements, perimenopause and extreme stress or illness.

(Not aimed at you MocktailMe) TTC is emotionally difficult, I agree with not giving false hope but we can be empathetic. I prefer to know the stats and the research, I prefer to be prepared for various outcomes, I find that comforting but that's not the case for everyone. We can be direct without being mean or cruel

I’m a bit all over the place too this month. I have PCOS, but my cycles are usually quite regular give a day or two.
My last two cycles have been 31 days exactly. This month I’m on day 36. This is quite late for me really. I had light bleeding yesterday (would have been 14dpo according to my tracking app - had EWCM at the right times) and I thought, ‘ah yeah, this has to be it’ - but now it has stopped. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had a negative pregnancy test on Friday.
I’m going to give it until say Wednesday and see what happens. TTC is a nightmare!
I have one fallopian tube too after having surgery for ruptured ectopic in March, so I’m not hopeful I can get pregnant naturally anyway.

glitches78 · 07/09/2024 05:10

Stress can cause your period to be late and you sound extremely stressed out over this.
I think you need to accept your out this month and work on trying (literally) for next month.

ramdom · 07/09/2024 04:21

Cycle day 43 today no AF and just miserable no clue what's happening with my body ...

Totally agree that feeding false hope is not the right thing to do, but there are ways of wording things to be sympathetic and kind, not rude and blunt when someone is already feeling down and vulnerable.

MocktailMe · 05/09/2024 01:28

Everyone on this board knows the pain of TTC. It is cruel to be kind IMO - I actually think it's far more unkind to feed false hope and allow people to believe in the tiny slim chance of faulty tests, hook effect etc etc when the reality is that if OP has her dates correct it is almost impossible for her to be pregnant currently. I'd rather be told that and accept it then keep the hope alive for longer and longer. Only makes it more painful in the end.

louise9422 · 04/09/2024 08:41

Some people on this thread are being unnecessarily blunt and harsh. You have my sympathy OP. TTC is such an emotional rollercoaster.

sel2223 · 04/09/2024 06:59

Expensive brands or cheap brand won't make a difference OP, especially 8 days after your missed period.
If you were pregnant, any test will pick up hcg by now and show a very strong unmistakable line.

I wasn't on birth control (or just come off it) at the time of my missed periods either, they just happened. There are several reasons for missing a period occasionally including stress, shift work, diet and exercise, travel, weight, age, also some medical issues but these would normally be accompanied by other symptoms....there's lots on the Internet about it

Saschka · 03/09/2024 22:19

TheShellBeach · 03/09/2024 21:51

No, it's because you're not pregnant.

Have to agree with this tbh.

TheShellBeach · 03/09/2024 21:51

ramdom · 03/09/2024 21:30

Do you think it could possibly be because I've used £1 cheap hcg test strips ?

No, it's because you're not pregnant.

ramdom · 03/09/2024 21:39

Saschka · 02/09/2024 22:12

You can just skip periods - it happened to me a couple of times when I was ttc.

No I have not ,
Tomorrow is cycle day 40
I'm always 32 days cycle it's been consistent for 2 years now before it was 28days

I'll try with a more expensive brand maybe because I've been using 3pack £1 test strips

I've never skipped a period in my life

Will I still ovulate this September?

But have you been on hormonal birth control, which would regulate your periods?

I hadn’t skipped a period either, until I started TTC. Because I was on the pill. Once I came off it, I skipped a period about once every year or two.

ramdom · 03/09/2024 21:30

TheShellBeach · 02/09/2024 23:17

At 5 days late you'd have an obvious line, even with pm urine, OP.

You're not pregnant and you don't need blood tests.

Hello OP. I got pregnant earlier this year and didn’t test positive until 2 weeks after my missed period. It turned out it was an ectopic pregnancy though. I also have PCOS (with regular cycles) so my head was all over the place when I was waiting. It’s awful.

I hope you get a strong positive soon - but please take care of yourself, do something nice for yourself and if you don’t get your period by next week, test again then make an appointment with the GP for a blood test to put your mind at rest.

I've never skipped a period in my life

Will I still ovulate this September?

I'm 41 and it's maybe happened 2 or 3 times in my life. I was never tracking ovulation at the times It happened but I think I then just ovulated as normal and my next period was at the time it should have been

ramdom · 03/09/2024 09:26

sel2223 · 03/09/2024 09:08

Story to hear that OP. The uncertainty is the worst.

Maybe you ovulated late like you said but also it's possible you have just skipped a period. This is something that happens to a lot of us from time to time and you never get a reason why. One month it just doesn't come then the following month, back to normal.

I tested this morning , BFN ...
I don't know what else to say anymore

Maybe I'm out
Or ovulated later than I thought and not enough hcg

I have given up hope and will just wait for my period to arrive tomorrow is 7 days late

And I just am not feeling good right now this whole thing is messing and playing with my head

OP posts:
MocktailMe · 03/09/2024 02:09

If your period is late and your test is negative then it is certain you ovulated later than usual. It doesn't mean you are pregnant though, just that you can't be 14dpo. (Unless your luteal phase is more than 14 days). Luteal phases stay the same length of time, but ovulation can move.

TheShellBeach · 02/09/2024 23:17

ramdom · 02/09/2024 23:13

So predicted ovulation was 14/08/2024

Implantation sharp digging on right side on pelvis predicted 6dpo 20/08/2024

Intercourse dates

14/08/2024
16/08/2024
17/08/2024
20/08/2024
23/08/2024
27/08/2024
28/08/2024
30/08/2024
31/08/2024
02/09/2024

So even if the pain on 20/08/2024 was ovulation I still had intercourse on that day

I'm on cycle day 39 tomorrow 6 days late
I'm hoping morning pee can give me at least a faint positive
Or I'm going to feel like I'm out this Month
I'm in such limbo right now
