How fat is too fat?

I am ttc #2. I put on weight with DS (now 2). I am currently 5 "4" and 12 stone 8 pounds and a small size 16. I did a lot of sport before DS, so have a lot of muscle which I believe gives inaccurate BMI (excuses!). I do worry about another pregnancy although I dearly want another baby. Has anyone else got similar worries or experienced a pregnancy whilst overweight.

RGPargy - would like to see them try!!!! I'm not obsessive about my weight but I put on 4.5 stone with dd1 as had a mc before her and was frightened to move

only put on 19lbs with dd2 and she was 11lb1 of it and wanted to see how I was doing this time as was on bedrest for about 8wks this time round

GP wouldn't let me weigh myself as I have 'better' things to be worried about and midwife on friday didn't ask so neither did I

roseability I agree with RGPargy entirely - its you health that matters here and time to enjoy being pg!

Hi im 4'11 and a size 22, i had dd3 6 months ago with no interventions and had a healthy problem free pregnancy. Im now 11 weeks pregnant with dc4 and so far have had no problems.

You guys are great! I don't believe anyone should feel they are 'fat' and should enjoy childbearing whatever size. I like to think being a loving mum is more important but of course so many pressures from other people.

Dizzy - I think different health authorities do things differently. I was dreading being weighed but the only person that weighed me was ME!!

If you dont want to be weighed, then just say so!! They cant force you to get on the scales! What are they gonna do?? Drag you to the scales by your hair?!

My BP was also never raised and glucose fine. I got the home birth i wanted too, although i wasn't allowed to get into my pool because of meconium in my waters. Other than that tho, everything was absolutely fine!

Roseability - size 16 isn't big. Please dont spend your pregnancy worrying about your weight. It's a time for enjoying your body and your unborn baby and not having to worry about having cake if you want to!

Good luck TTC and please - ENJOY your pg!!!

I have warned my family in no uncertain terms that the word 'fat' will not be banded about my kids the way it was to us

you'll be fine and a 16 is not big, its average

good luck

thanks guys. I have a particular obsession with my weight as I had a father who bullied me about it through my teens. I know my size isn't that big, I just don't want anything to stop me enjoying pregnancy/baby if I am lucky enough to concieve again

RGPargy - how did you manage to get out of it, they insist I get on the scales every farking time even though I make noises about it!

am same with glucose too, fine everysingle time AND my bp is never raised either

RGPargy · 12/04/2008 22:28

You'll be fine, dont worry. I was a size 24(ish) when i conceived DD (she's four months now) and everything was absolutely fine, including glucose etc. Oh and i NEVER got weighed once!

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 22:26

am currently between 18-20 and f506 and pg with dc3

its obviously brought up at every apt I have and I get weighed/glucose tested etc

I wish I wasn't this overweight
I had lost 2.5 stone last year but managed to put it all back on just intime for falling pg with this one

you'll be fine, just do everything sensibly to ttc and see how it goes!

in my defence my babies were 10lb4 and 11lb1 so no wonder am weighing in at this!
