Lottie, I hope we haven't jinxed anything! I tried very hard not to even think about kids when deciding what to buy. Just went for the features we knew we wanted: cruise control, automatic transmission, and big enough so DP doesn't bash his head getting in or get a cramp in his long legs. Once we figured in our budget, there were only two cars left, and after ruling one out due to reliability problems, we were left with the Citroen C4. And it just happens to be a 5 door hatchback with a big (pram-ready) boot, child seat thingys, and a 5 star safety rating. . . not that any of that crossed my mind....nope....not me....

There's a lady at work who's been trying to convince me to try reflexology for my PCOS for years! I think I'm finally gonna do it when we move up to Warrington. The fitness centre near us there has a qualified nurse who also does reflexology, reiki, sports massage, etc. The prices seemed really reasonable.

Oh we bought a car today! It would be very nice to put babies in. . .

Orchidgirl - I sometimes get queasy before my period... but washed-out and achey is saved for during - just to add insult to injury.

Lottie - love your soapbox rants ... and you are, of course, totally right, I should get the most out of my reflexology session - I just don't know that I can face telling her about trying to conceive. I know she would keep everything confidential, it's just I am furiously private, and hate people knowing. I wish I hadn't even told my mum now! How about suggesting that I had read that reflexology was good for pre-conception? I could lie and say that we are thinking about trying, and would it be a good idea to get balanced? I do wonder about seeing someone else... but it seems a shame to not give her my business.

I think I am going to need acupuncture to get over the stress of lying to my reflexologist

Has anyone else noticed feeling ill just prior to AF? I regularly have a day or two feeling flu-like with aching muscles, headache, queasiness and generally feeling washed out. Two days later AF.

Or is it just me...

sorkycake · 01/04/2008 20:09

Hello ladies,
I think there is research which links weight/BMI with infertility and obstetric difficulties.

As far as I'm aware BMI breaks down as:
normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9)
overweight (BMI 25-29.9)
obese (BMI>30)

Underweight women have similar problems with infertility so it presumably affects either extreme.

I know if I drop below a certain weight I don't ovulate, part of the reason we think it took so long ttc1 because my BMI was 17 at the time.

I've always wanted to try Reflexology.

Oh Ready ... read this article! I googled 'reflexology & fertility' and it came up ...

www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/womenfamily.html?in_article_id=20980&in_page_id=1799

Ready · 01/04/2008 19:58

Oh... and the two bits in my last post that made me sound uppety and smug... were meant to highlight that it is easy to assume you are bigger than you really are.

Not sure it came across that way! Tut.

ClairLesley · 01/04/2008 19:57

Lottie ... don't think you've anything to worry about on that score . I'm not up to going to the gym yet, so for me it's walking ... does make me feel better though, just like you said.

You know, I just can't imagine needles ... can't see how they'd be relaxing at all ... it will be interesting to swap notes after we've had our appointments!!

Ready · 01/04/2008 19:57

Lottie? or should we start calling you previous? Nope, not funny! Sorry that you didn?t get the +ve yet? and there is still every chance that a swimmer released in Santiago, could fertilise an egg, slightly delayed ? Are you sure your BMI is over 25? I presumed mine would be, because I am short? but I was pleasantly surprised, I mean, I would personally like to lose ½ a stone, but my BMI is 23 ? which is in the healthy range. Agree with you though, I always feel better after exercise ? it really does release endorphins, or some such!

With regards to being overweight and it being an issue for conception? I suggested this to my GP, when I first went to ask for help? she wasn?t amused that I thought I could be considered overweight. But went on to say that whilst being obese can affect all bodily processes ? there are LOTS of women out there who are very big and conceive with no fuss. And when I think about it, I know a woman who is huge ? and has two children. So let?s not worry about weight being an obstacle.

Can?t remember if I said? I had hopi ear candle treatment yesterday, and a pedicure? and have taken the plunge and booked in for some reflexology. The therapist is a family friend, so I don?t want to make it conception specific? but I am presuming if there is a blockage, or an imbalance of some kind? it would be picked up??

Hello! Well, I googled 'acupuncture for fertility' in my area this morning and ended up contacting a clinic for more info ... the 'registered acupuncturist' recommended once a week treatments for the first 4 weeks and then once a month 3-4 days before ovulation after that until pregnancy ... £35 pounds per session. Could turn out to be a big investment at the rate I'm going but I'm going to call back tomorrow to book an appointment. Anything is worth a shot ...

Lottie, I always take the weight issue with a pinch of salt. From what I've read, if your larger (which I definitely am) but you still have regular periods & ovulate etc then that's OK. Having lived in the US for the past 4 years I can tell you I saw plenty of larger ladies who had no trouble conceiving whatsoever ...

Hugs lottie but you're still not out! And look on the bright side if you conceived in Santiago then you would be obliged to name the little one that a la Brooklyn Beckham!
