Sex Every 4 Days TTC

Hi Ladies

Was just wondering has anyone else DTD every 4 days and gone on to find out they're pregnant?

My partner struggles a bit to always want sex but he seems to be ok doing it every 4 days, He has had his sperm test done and all ok, i have also had my tests all done and all ok for me to bloods and scans.

We don't really want to use opks and BTT just yet as could be a bit too stressful as just starting out and i don't have the best of sleeps at night

My cycles can range from 26 to 32 days so it
seems I can ovulate on cycle days 12 to 18 going of my previous cycles
use the Flo app to keep track of my periods

So our plan was to DTD every 4 days from the date of the period ending and then stop 5 days before I was due my period to try to cover all bases

@SnKcampbell If DTD every 3-4 days works for you and it is what is going to make your partner feel the most comfortable, then I think that is fine. You need to make your peace that with less accuracy it may be hit and miss, but hopefully over time you get lucky.

However if you are looking for guarantees... then you need to either DTD more often, or use some more advance tracking.

I am only suggesting this because you say you want to keep it relaxed (which in an ideal world we all do) but then you are quoting what your apps say. So if in your heart of hearts you are more of a tracker, then I would just lean into that impulse and track!

I am a tracker, I have absolutely no chill. Just going to lean into who I am!😁

Thank you

Yes we have said we would try this approach for first 3 months then if nothing happens then look at changing things.
When we saw fertility specialist last year I remember they did say every 2 to 3 days was good.

I'm ok tracking and logging info on my periods to my app, I'm just not sure I'll any good at doing wee on stick multiple times a day and taking my btt.

Fingers crossed for you as well that you get a bfp this month

Day 6 to 24 is just far too wide to fall pregnant though you could just shorten it then have sex for fun outside of this and be spontaneous!

Thanks we worked it out would be 7 times in a month if we did every 3 days 24th day isn't meant to be a fertile day or ovulation this one was more of a fun and cover bases just incase

The apps always seem to suggest everyone has a 14 day luteal phase which is not the case, mine was 9 days long, but I wouldn’t know that without using opks and tracking bbt. I understand you want a relaxed approach at first but it seems like it is possibly going to put too much pressure on your husband dtd every 3 days if he has a low sex drive and would definitely be better to do it just the once the day you get a peak opk.

Thanks, so far he is ok doing every 3 days and says it's normally around the 3rd day when he feels like he needs to go again.

Looking back on my apps it has had when I have likely ovulated for my cycles and these have ranged from day 12 in cycle to day 18 of cycle

This month so far we have dtd on day 6, day 9, then still got day 12, day 15th, day 18 and day 21 and day 24 left to do to cover us if we stick to every 3 days so hopefully this covers the possibility of some ovulation dates

Then my period has come either 26 to 32 days apart

@SnKcampbell the apps can’t know when you’re ovulating though. It’s not about your period. I ovulate about six days later than the app algorithm suggests.

Yeah I understand the apps can be off but where I do track and log stuff on the apps it seems I can ovulate between day 12 to 16 as it shows a history of possibilities of ovulation dates for my history.

If we don't happen to fall pregnant this month then will do opks

I think you're missing the point of why people are suggesting tracking ovulation to you - if you want to have sex as little as possible you may as well just do it day before/day of ovulation and not have to have sex the rest of the month

We are happy to do the sex every 3 days for now, I do understand why people are suggesting that I track etc but for now we just wanted to try this approach and see if it works for us if it don't then we will track.
If I had my way I would do sex every day I have a high sex drive it's just my husband can only do every 3 days

Honestly you only really need to have sex the day before and day of ovulation, from a conception perspective there's not much point the rest of the month! I got BFP from only having sex once, on ovulation day. Every 4 days is likely to miss the peak time. I never found the tests stressful, it helps plan, particularly in your scenario, and I also have irregular cycles so hard to predict based on dates alone.

Edited

Thank you, I'm not against using them but don't want to do it first time round
I have been tracking my periods for a good few years now and roughly 28 to 30 days apart have had some random ones in between one 17 days, one 26 and one 32
The apps I'm using have been pretty accurate on the day that my period would come I know I can't 100%, trust the apps that's why for now we was and doing every 3 days from when period finished and stopping few days before I was due
The every 3 days also falls on possibility choices of when I could ovulate going off previous cycles.

So we dtd then have 2 rest days then dtd on the 3rd day. I got my calculations wrong thinking it was 4 days but I can't edit the post

@SnKcampbell i conceived my first without using ovulation tests, we dtd every 2/3 days and conceived month 1. That approach can definitely work. But if your partner is struggling to do it at least every 3 days then ovulation tests are another good option to take the pressure off him.

Thank you and that's very good to know
So far we have been doing every 3rd day since day my period ended and this seems to be working for us. So fingers crossed we are successful first month but I know it don't always work this way.

You seem to be missing the point everyone has made. You don't need to do it every 3 days you need to do it once at exactly the right time

Yes but unless I'm going to be doing opks and btt which I'm not this month we had planned to do every 3 days, not everyone does the btt and opks straight away when trying for a baby, my sister didn't use either and conceived within 3 months of trying, was just trying to find out if anyone had conceived doing the deed every 3 days from day of period ending untill just before next period is due.

But seems everyone wants to push poks and btt onto to people straight away, if it hasn't worked for me within 3 months of not tracking then I may try but for now was trying a more relaxed approach

I just noticed I messed up and we have actually written it down to every 3 days not 4 days we was thinking it was every 4 but looking at it it's actually every 3 days he can do this he said but needs 3 days no less then 3

I successfully did every 3 days for my kids, I think 4 is too long.

Thanks, I was hoping every 2/3 days but he was saying he may only manage every 4 days but this is our first month trying so don't want to be to stressed out to start with

You would be much better having sex only once in the month but making sure you hit your ovulation day. Buy some OPK tests off Amazon and start tracking your ovulation. As soon as you get a positive- have sex.

MamaBearsss · 08/02/2024 19:56

Don’t rely on your app telling you when you ovulate, it’s likely to be wrong. Highly recommend the clear blue digital sticks. Bit expensive but worth it.

angelpie33 · 08/02/2024 19:53

I agree with the above poster - in your position, I would 100% start using OPKs to work out your normal ovulation day in your cycle. Ideally to get pregnant you want to DTD 1 or 2 days prior to ovulation (you can theoretically get pregnant 3-4 days before or the day of but not as good chance) and you will usually ovulate around 24-36hrs after your first positive OPK. So once you work out your likely ovulation day with OPKs you can see whether you're DTD on the most fertile days.

Millie1501 · 08/02/2024 19:42

i have attached a photo of statistics from a study I came across. I don’t think sex every day is needed but every four days is probably not enough. I suggest using ovulation tests and having sex when you get a positive.

Honestly @SnKcampbell I'd get some ovulation tests I went off an app for the first 3
Months just presuming it would be right , it was well out ! As the lines darken you're closer to ovulation when you to think it's almost there DTD then once more day after for good luck

BargainBasementland · 08/02/2024 19:35

There is a 5% chance of sperm surviving more that 4.5 days. It can, but it’s very unlikely.
