Struggling to conceive no 2

Been trying for about eight months now. I know it won’t be investigated until it’s been a year but has anyone else been in the same boat or have any advice? I’m mid 30s so on the cusp of “older Mum”.

It’s starting to get me so down, all of the parents I know with children same age as DS1 seem to be pregnant with no2. We are wondering whether to start an application to adopt as we’re not sure whether we’d want to go through IVF.

anyone who has had a similar experience, I’d love to hear from you

Hey 👋 an old thread I know.. am wondering if anyone else managed to concieve? Im in a similar boat and starting to give up hope 🙁 xx

yes I did. Just after a year of trying we conceived . That's with an extremely low sperm count that they said natural conception very very very low chance. My daughter is now 1 years old! Xx

Congratulations!

I was also someone who conceived quite quickly with DC1 (4 months) and then it took 20 months until conceiving DC2.

TheBirdintheCave · 30/04/2024 23:20

Aww congrats @butterfly245 ! ❤️

So I finally got the positive result ❤️ we were heading into our 12th cycle so about to seek help, then it happened. Only four weeks so it’s early days, but got there in the end. Thank you so much for the support

Ahhh never, I literally just posted a reply and then saw this! Fantastic news @butterfly245 !! Xx

mummabubs · 30/04/2024 20:53

Hi OP, we were really similar. With DC1 I found out I was pregnant on our honeymoon, literally first cycle of trying. With DC2 we tried for three months, then had a four month break or so as I was getting really stressed about it all. Then we started trying again but took another nine months before I got pregnant with DC2. I think we'd been so privileged with how quickly it happened the first time that it didn't honestly occur to me that it would take 12 cycles the second time. I really hope it happens for you soon x

After we had male factor fertility issues trying for our son (who took 15 months) we thought the second would be easier. No such luck. We started trying when my son was one year old and ended up having two missed miscarriages, IVF, another miscarriage and then, somehow, miraculously, conceived naturally in September 2023, 22 months after we started trying. I'm now 25 weeks and am 37 years old.

Sometimes it can be a long slog and the age gap between my children is going to be far greater than I planned, but I just wanted to say I hope you all get your miracles in the end as I know how rubbish it feels ❤

butterfly245 · 01/02/2024 09:21

I found it worth the £150 for the peace of mind as it does tell you in detail about hormone levels and quality and life of eggs-so I know there’s no issue of my eggs being too old or I’m heading towards early menopause. It suggested a pelvic ultrasound but the GP has investigate the heavy periods already.

so yes I feel better knowing that I still have time on my side. If it needs investigating later this year, we know it could be my partner.

it was all very quick and easy-but I didn’t collect the blood myself my partner did that I get woozy 🤣

Hertility tests all came back clear, other than the suggestion that a pelvic ultrasound could help (reported that I get heavy periods). Period due in a week or so, will see what that brings.

Hi, would you recommend the Hertility test? Did you give you the reassurance you needed?

24evergreen · 31/01/2024 20:05

I am also in the same boat. Early miscarriage in the summer and now into the 7th cycle. Feeling really down! Will look to get some private tests done if we're not successful this month.

CurlyWurly1991 · 31/01/2024 17:23

37 here and TTC for about 7 months now with a MMC at 9 weeks along the way. I know it probably isn’t what you want to hear but the length of time you have been TTC is still very much within the realms of normal, uncomplicated, fertile couples. Supplements are a good idea, ‘it starts with the egg’ has lots of information. I understand the worries about an age gap, if it’s any consolation my first child is 10. There will be a huge age gap. They all have their pros and cons. Good luck x

Hi, how is everyone getting on? Any success stories?

We are still trying. I'm not ever sure how many cycles now, over a year with nothing. Our first only took a few months so wasn't expecting this.

Does anyone use multiple OPKs?

Iv been using strips and the clear blue digital!

The strips look positive to me, but the digital doesn't have a smile!
Iv also had EWCM for a few days so I'm not sure.

I'm on CD21 which is fairly normal for me.

Anyone had anything similar?

I'm the same :( just started cycle 12 TTC following a TFMR this time last year and I have a son who is 2.
I'm going to get in touch with my GP if this cycle is another fail as that will have been 12 months actively trying. I'm worried they'll just say I need to lose weight though as my BMI is higher than it should be. Still hoping they might do some tests, although I'm wondering about just doing some private testing like Hertility?

Hertility health are vv gd
I do very much recommend

V gd to get those results transferred to nhs after too
And discuss with gp _ / gynae

DH and I tried for almost two years to conceive our second after conceiving our first very quickly. It was such an awful experience, I felt really stuck in the middle. I had a child so couldn't escape babies and pregnant women but at the same time wasn't really understood by those struggling to conceive their first. We booked IVF for the January and in the October prior I started going to a natural fertility practitioner for reflexology, massage, dietary advice, etc. The intention was to prepare my body for IVF, but I was pregnant naturally by mid November. May be worth looking into things like that? I found it really helped me psychologically to feel as if I was actively doing something to help the process.

thank you again for making me feel not alone xx

Hi everyone,

We are the same. Our son has just turned 2. We'v been TTC around 12 months now. Not a hint of anything.

We fell pregnant quickly with our son, so I'm not sure how long we should keep trying.

I have been using ovulation sticks. Maybe I should start temping?

Is anyone taking any supplements?

Taking 1000 iu vit d a day
Theres a vit d and miscarriage link

B6 alsp reduces miscarriage risk by 50 percent

We had an early miscarriage in Sept

I had secondary infertility and decided not to go down the ivf route. It is very much personal choice but it was not for me. I gave everything away and settled into a family of 3. Then 6 years later, out of the blue i got pregnant. It is so hard to work through the emotions when nothing happens especially when everyone else around you is getting pregnant. I joked once that my friend would be on her third before i had a second and she actually had her 4th just before i had second ds!
