To be cheeky to ask how old you were when you had your kids? And age gaps?

I have one child currently, almost 15m old. Not an easy baby by any means - very bad reflux, very unsettled, kinda grumpy even now 😂 but delightful when he wants to be and still not sleeping through consistently! He was conceived and born when I was 31, very luckily on the first go after coming off the pill (which I’m now back on).

im Fairly certain a second is on the cards, not right now, probably with a 3 year gap if I had total control which of course I don’t because who knows if it’ll even happen for me, nothing is certain! I’ve just turned 33 and first born will turn 2 in the autumn.

not sure whether to bite the bullet and try when they turn 2 - that would be a min age gap of like 2y 8m or so if it happened straight away.

what did other people do? How long? What age etc?

Had my first at 35, will be looking to try for another quite soon I imagine, as I turn 36 this month and not expecting it to happen straight away

mintich · 04/01/2024 17:13

36 when I had my first. 16 months later had my second. Then 2 years later had my third.

29 and then 32 so there is a 3 year gap with a couple of weeks added. It was planned for a 3 year gap started trying when Ds1 would be 2.9.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 04/01/2024 17:05

32 and 36. A deliberate 4 year age gap.

tokesqueen · 04/01/2024 17:01

30 and 33 with a 2.5 year age gap.
Twenty years on, wouldn't change the age I had them or the gap between. It's been perfect.

23 and 28. The big age gap was fab and I’ve been toying with a third and I’d want a similar age gap. It means one set of daycare fees at once which is really the biggest expense of having a child so far!

I’m 30 now and my body isn’t what it used to be in my 20s so a third child is way way down the list atm. Aaaaand we’re still paying childcare fees 🙄

First baby age 33, second baby age 36 with a 2 year and 4 month age gap. Perfect gap in my mind.
First one will be at school for 3 years (due to term time start dates and time of year they were born) which means I'll have some time with the youngest one when they turn 2 a couple of days a week.

They get on great, I was glad my older one was out of nappies by the time baby came along (excepts nights).

Personally didn't want a bigger gap (would have preferred smaller but it took a while to conceive second).

18 and then 23

Tryingtokeepcalmandcarryon · 04/01/2024 16:27

30 with my first, 32 with my second. I think the number of school years makes a difference too, I have a autumn baby and then a summer one so there is 2 years 4 months between them and only 2 school years. If I had a September baby for my second a couple of months later, there would be 3 school years.

It will be nice having both at Infant school together for a year and it just means a year less doing school runs!

gaps worked really well for us
24 was the best age! Organised (a bit) and still lots of energy and having fun.

MayBeee · 04/01/2024 16:22

Had two , the age difference was exactly 3 years , 9 months and two days .

Oops edited to give my age , had first at 21 .

TheBeesKnee · 04/01/2024 16:22

I wouldn't say it's cheeky, there are many threads like this.

I had my first when I was 31 too and he's 8 months old now. I'm not putting a date or number on the next baby, I'm going to go with when I feel ready. At the moment I absolutely do not between night wakes and feeling run down and haggard.

Dacadactyl · 04/01/2024 16:21

21 with our first and 26 for the second. Conceived straight away both times. If id had my time again I'd have liked a smaller age gap. I think 2-3 years between them would've been nice, but we were saving for house and wedding so not practical at the time.

I had my first at 30, my second at 32, my third at 34 and my fourth at 36 so I have roughly 2yrs between each of them.

TheBirdintheCave · 04/01/2024 16:19

34 for my first and I'm 37 with number two arriving in May. We started trying when I was 32. I would have liked to have been younger when I had kids but I didn't meet my husband until I was 29 then infertility and recurrent miscarriage scuppered any planned age gaps.

Wallawallakoala · 04/01/2024 16:15

I was 29 when I had my first and there’s a 3 year gap between ours. It’s really hard to say what is the best age gap to be honest because it depends on the dc! And how you feel. I liked the fact my first was at a point where they were potty trained, had a level of independence and could be left for a minute here and there whilst I was feeding / nappy changing / settling.
