I have one child currently, almost 15m old. Not an easy baby by any means - very bad reflux, very unsettled, kinda grumpy even now 😂 but delightful when he wants to be and still not sleeping through consistently! He was conceived and born when I was 31, very luckily on the first go after coming off the pill (which I’m now back on).

im Fairly certain a second is on the cards, not right now, probably with a 3 year gap if I had total control which of course I don’t because who knows if it’ll even happen for me, nothing is certain! I’ve just turned 33 and first born will turn 2 in the autumn.

not sure whether to bite the bullet and try when they turn 2 - that would be a min age gap of like 2y 8m or so if it happened straight away.

what did other people do? How long? What age etc?

34, 36, 39. 2 years ish between them. Conceived easily every time.

SulkingSeagull · 04/01/2024 18:26

I was 26 and 28, with a 21 month gap. We said that we would start trying for a second when our eldest turned 1 as we wanted a small gap - I was lucky enough to fall pregnant in the first month of trying!

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 04/01/2024 18:24

21 with my first, I split up with her dad a few months after she was born. I stayed single till she was 6 and then met my DP we started trying at 30 for number two spurred on by my consultant as I hadn't been well since my first was born and the clock was ticking due to already declining fertility down to illness but things didn't work out exactly how we had planned. I'm now 33 and finally have a 3 week old so just over 11 year age gap.

Violet1988 · 04/01/2024 18:21

I was 27 when I got pregnant with my first, had him at 28. I was a month of 31 when I had my second and 33 when I had my third. Age gaps are 2 years 8 months and 2 years and 10 months. Exactly 5 and a half years to the very day between oldest and youngest.

GeekyDiva80 · 04/01/2024 18:10

I had my first exactly a month before my 40th. I've just found out I'm
pregnant - surprise 🥳 So this one will come when I'm 44. So a 4 year difference, which is great.

mylifeisprettygood · 04/01/2024 18:04

I was 30, then 40 then 45. The age gaps work for us 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Tumbler2121 · 04/01/2024 17:56

I had first daughter at 17 and second at 28, same dad. First daughter had her children at 34 and 38. Second daughter had hers at 26 and 29.

AmeliaEarhart · 04/01/2024 17:43

I was 32 when I had DC1. DC2 was a delightful surprise 23 months later (DH had chemo after DC1 was born and we didn’t think he was still fertile!)

The smallish gap was rough at first but they’re 13 and 11 now and really close, so it was worth it.

28.75 years old.

Second is due when I'll be 30.8.

2 year 2month age gap. Get the the pain and suffering out of the way imo. Plus clothes, still remembering how to do things, playful interactions bergen siblings etc. Down to individual preferences.

Starfish1021 · 04/01/2024 17:38

30, and 33. There is exactly 2.5 years between my two. I’ve found it a good gap. They are now 9 and 11 and still play together nicely most of the time. It’s worked well for us. I didn’t want to leave it too long between as I just thought get on with the sleepless nights and being super poor with child care costs.

Lilacdressinggown · 04/01/2024 17:38

21 minutes between the first two (twins).
18 months between the first two and my third.
2 years between third and fourth, which was more than I wanted.

Personally I find it much easier when they are closer together. You are at the same stage for everything so there is no conflict over holidays, days out etc. After school clubs the first 3 all did the same thing (same class for dancing, swimming, scouts etc.
All of them developed resilient and flexible personalities and were good at sharing, caring and taking turns. They all had to learn to work together, help out and that everyone’s needs were valid but they couldn’t always have their own way.

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 04/01/2024 17:37

I had mine when I was 39.

goodgriefsean · 04/01/2024 17:30

I was 29 then 32, there's 3 years and 3 weeks between them. We planned a 3 year gap and were very fortunate to conceive first month of trying the first time and second month the second time. Eldest was conceived on honeymoon!

MuchTooTired · 04/01/2024 17:30

31, 4 minute age gap.

familyissues12345 · 04/01/2024 17:28

22 with first
27 with second

Trinity69 · 04/01/2024 17:27

I was 28 (should have been 29 but he was early!) with my first and 31 with my second. There’s a 2yr 4 month gap.

junebirthdaygirl · 04/01/2024 17:26

I was 30, 32, and 35. Good age gaps l found. I knew l would like 3 so just ploughed on without thinking too much about the gap but it worked out OK even though they all came into our bed for a long time but that stage passed...eventually.

OldTinHat · 04/01/2024 17:19

27 and 28, 18 months between the two.

weegiemum · 04/01/2024 17:16

I was 29 when dd1 was born, and then had ds 3 days before her second birthday. Surprise dd2 was 22 months later. So I had 3 under 4 for a short period! The age gap is great, and it got all the nappies and stuff over with.

They're 20, (almost) 22 and (almost) 24 now.

NewYearNewMeMamma · 04/01/2024 17:15

Baby #1 at 25, #2 at 27 - 25m gap, #3 at 28 (ONE DAY BEFORE MY 29th BIRTHDAY) - 22m gap and #4 at 31 - 26m gap.

WombatBombat · 04/01/2024 17:15

31 with my first, conceived second cycle.

We ideally wanted a 3 year age gap and I came off the pill in Feb. However it hasn’t been as quick this time and we’re still TTC.

DS turned 3 last month.

If we could plan it, we’d have a third with a smaller age gap, mainly because of our ages.

Chanhedforthis · 04/01/2024 17:13

12 years between my first two, i hate the huge gap but i certainly couldn't of had another in my 20s.

There will be 2.8 years between the youngest hopefully a better experience!

Echobelly · 04/01/2024 17:13

30 when oldest was born, 33 with second - 3 years and 2 months apart.

Conceived first one literally the first time we tried as far as I can tell, second one took 5-6 months because my cycle took a while to settled after I came off the pill that time.
