Broody at 43--am I bonkers?

I had DS when I was 39 (no problems conceiving--got pregnant second month we tried). Until recently, I've felt ambivalent about a second child. But right now am feeling mega-broody!

wow! this thread is like a book you can't put down, I just read it from start to finish, very exciting! Congrats DecafArabica what wonderful news! And all the best to all other slightly older ones like us! Re TTC first time it took forever, maybe 2 years at least to conceive my ds (nearly 4) when I was 36. And I've just found out I am pregnant with number 2 when we had barely tried. It seems crazy doesn't it? My masseur was convinced that we were totally stressed out by trying too hard the first time and I only conceived when we did what she said i.e. went on holiday, got drunk, got interested in sex for its own sake again and really stopped trying. Not at all easy to do psychologically but at least I think I was much more relaxed (smashed) that week-end than usual. I don't know why we conceived just now except we weren't officially trying. My sister is a midwife and she says fertility is the strangest thing in the world and that people are often getting pregnant when they've been told it's very unlikely, it is so mysterious isn't it? I wish everyone trying to conceive could have 3 to 6 months massage therapy from a really experienced masseur like I did. I always tell her she got us pregnant first time round!

Yes Hoxtonchic, I expect I will be hanging out at the Homerton! Last time I think my area had their appointments on Friday mornings. But this time I am going to get most of my check-ups at the GP surgery as it's nearer.

Hiya, Marinda, to answer your question, DH and I had discussed having a second baby in a kind of hypothetical way, but it was only after the event, that we realised I could be pregnant. At first he was hoping I wasn't because of his very busy college course and of course our lack of cash and space in our little flat, but he's really excited now. I didn't have time to do anything to help conceive--I was still on my regular 4 or 5 mugs full-strength coffee, had had 3 boozy nights out (am not a heavy drinker normally) and, er, was smoking 5 ciggies a day (I threw them away after having done my test).

At 37 it took me about five months or so to conceive - at 40 it took me, oooh, about ten minutes? And I mean that literally

Wow Arabia - you put me to shame. I am 38 and been TTC for 6 months withno such luck. May I ask were you actively trying or did it "just happen"?.
Can you offer any advice on tactics please !

Do you know I saw the start of your thread and didn't comment because I thought well, she'll be umming and erring for months...

Incidentally I was nearly 42 when DS2 was born and I had no lectures to speak of (and that was 11 years ago) and, apart from feeling like deth between weeks 6-13ish, felt fantastic throughout.

I think my EDD is 16 Sept, but will be finding out more tomorrow when I visit the nurse at my GP's surgery for a repeat test and probably a lecture on age-related Downs risks (it's that kind of a surgery).

Thanks for all your lovely messages. I don't feel pregnant yet but I guess I will soon. I just feel soooooooooo happy. And it's great to have somewhere to talk about it--I don't want to reveal my news to the wider world until I have had my 13 wk scan.
