JB I am just wondering what will happen on first appointment. We have had all fertility tests and 2 swimmers tests???? will it really just be history taking? Would you know?

Tan, jedds, jb, SweetFudge - about adoption: yes it will be harder because we're same sex (isn't everything ) but I'm hoping that we may have a greater chance because dp is Jamaican and I am mixed European Jewish and Irish. My understanding is that this is precisely the kind of ethnic mix that is needed in London (where we live). However, it may still not be possible to get approved and, even if we do, it may not be possible to get a child. Then there is the problem that we would likely be matched with an older child with special needs, and I work full-time... not sure this would be fair unless I could find a way to downsize and be a SAHM. So yes, I am in principle also prepared to consider adoption from overseas, but that has its own problems.

SweetFudge, I'd love to hear more about what you learned about adoption, and particularly about the ethnic mix issue. Could you tell us more, or could I CAT you?

Feeling really flat today/tonight been looking on the internet re IVF. we always thought we would have to go down that road in the first place but it supprised us to have ds so really never thought of it again. its not fair reproduction shouldnt be this hard its meant to be a natural process....feeling like a real reject now.

Missed my persona testing this am!....had until 9.30am to test and didn.t wake till 9.45am (had a lie in....shattered at the mo) So consequently it has a red light.

Hi JB, Apparently not re. placing dual heritage children with a couple where only one adoptive parent will reflect at least a quarter or half of the child's ethnicity. DH is v. determined not to give up and is going to speak to a different local authority to see if what we were told is actually the case. (Not to imply that the social worker we spoke to was being overtly pessimistic) but just to see if our prospects at domestic adoption are really that poor.

Hi RD, I'm on long cycles like you (mainly between 29 - 37 days) but travelling does mess it up even more. I started on persona last month and am going to keep it up for a couple of months like you to see if it will help me get a better idea of my O days. BTW, I'm in Borneo till mid Feb. It is pretty humid and the monsoon rains are getting to my sanity.

Hello sweetfudge - sorry the lack of AF is driving you mad but fingers crossed for you. How long are you in Borneo for?

CD35 for me and no AF and no BFP either. I am starting to rethink my dates - as I have always had a 34/35 day cycle I presumed that was what I would have again. However, I have only had 2 pill free periods since DS and while the first was 35 days the last one was 38 so perhaps they are getting longer. Will just have to wait and see I suppose but it makes me less optimistic for this month as I made a presumption about when I o'd based on a 35 day cycle and if it's later than that think we might have missed it. Oh well. Not quite sure what to do as persona says you can't use it for cycles longer than 35 days but may persevere with it for a couple of months and at least see if I can get an O.

Morning girls, hope you all had a good weekend....Thought I would let you all know that the progesterone pills have well and truly done the trick! AF pains started in earnest on Saturday and by Sunday af herslef had turned up......have had the worst period pains of my life by the way - but now started the good old Clomid and looking forward again!!!!

So glad to finally be able to say that Now if only I can shift these pains.......

I'm no expert here, but y do they put all of this importance on ethinic origins? - can the chil not be form one side as it were in stead of a mix of both origins?

Sorry for not replying sooner- It is about 2 in the afternoon here and 6 a.m. back in London.

JB, like Hester and Feelingverylucky (who got a BFP last month (grin)) I'm ttc using the home insemination route. Like with Hester and her dp, the inseminations are wearing us down with the energy we put into co-ordinating it, etc.

I'm still waiting for AF to arrive but I refuse to get my hopes up since my body clock goes haywire when I travel. Also, I told DH over the phone last night that it was CD35 and he pointed out that my cycles can be as long as 45 days when I am abroad. He told me that he wasn't going to get his hopes up. I agree that it is the most sensible way of dealing with ttc but as I always remind DH, it is my body waiting to become pregnant. So he doesn't have to worry about what each twinge or ache might mean or rush to the loo to check his underwear incessantly like I do if I so much as feel a cramp in my pelvic area.

Jeddah- Hurray! What work did your brother do out in Borneo?

Hester - We feel the same way about the money spent on ICSI and the time we've invested into inseminations. When it failed last month, it felt like the last straw and so I called the adoption services in my area of London to find out what was involved and arranged a meeting. We found out that due to our ethnic mix, our chances of adopting a child domestically were pretty low. We were told that a child with our dual ethnicities came up very occasionally but we had to be prepared to wait indefinitely. (The social worker did cite the recent success of a couple like us who were matched with a child only a few weeks after they were approved for adoption.)

Needless to say, we were pretty shocked. We'd be told time and again by friends who had adopted that dual ethnicity couples were sought after. Hence, we attended the meeting with only one real worry ie. that we live in a London flat like you and have no garden for a child to romp in.

I think that was our lowest point. We've agree to take a break from discussing it while I am away. I know we need this break to refuel.

BBC has an article on here about having babues later in life. I know some on here are interested int his. From scanning it the article seems very favourable and gives the advantages about doing so, and dispells myths. Hope it is okay to post this - just though some of the poster smight fnd it inteesting.

CD 10 here didnt bd last night just too tired may ask dh too come home after lunch when ds is asleep for a quicky. have a little cm this morning but still slightly bleeding from the op so cant tell how ewcm it is there is proberly not much chance anyway seeing my gp that refered me to gyno this morning to get stiches removed will ask his opinion. or if he knows where i can get some info about the proceedures.
