I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

Well after a chemical pregnancy last month I've just got the whim to test now with a FRER as I'm cramping terribly, even though I'm 4 days before my period. And I think it's positive????

Can't believe it. Even with DS1 I never got a BFP until I was way past my period! Still in shock.

Whose trying to conceive baby no2 this year?
Bells3032 · 08/09/2023 10:37

ah that's so funny! good luck

I am feeling a bit low today. this is first month actively trying. part of me hoping it works and the other half hoping it doesn't. i would love another one and my daughter loves babies so i think that she will be such an amazing big sister but i hated being pregnant. i really hated every minute of it. so much anxiety. just want to fast forward.

FirstTimeMumma2021 · 06/09/2023 21:15

In my first TWW, already going insane, so much fluttering in tummy today!
We are going on hokiday for first time this week with DS so should be a good distraction. Insanely, in due to test on the same day I found out I was pregnant with DS!

Bubblesandtroubles · 06/09/2023 19:17

@Bumblebeemee I think we are similar stages and I too felt I was nauseous and had a familiar strange taste I'm sure I remember from being pregnant last time. I'm almost certain it was just in my head though! I swear this TWW sends me a little bit more insane each month! Xx

Chocolatehobnobs2948 · 06/09/2023 18:02

@Bubblesandtroubles Yeah that would be within the normal range but I totally get the impatience, especially when it's happened quickly the first time. Hopefully better luck this month!

Bumblebeemee · 06/09/2023 13:42

@MixedCouple @Greenapples21 I hadn’t even considered the effects still breastfeeding might have! Little one is almost 16 months but still feeding 2-3 times during the day on my non-working days and then feeds to sleep and once during the night. I did get my period back fairly quickly within 2 weeks of him starting solids though.

I’m already convinced I’m nauseous although it could just be the heat and not drinking enough. It’s a fine line between being hopefull and being realistic!

🤞🏼 for everyone this month

Greenapples21 · 06/09/2023 08:00

Morning all,

Can I rejoin please, currently 2 or 3DPO. My DS is about the turn 23 months and really don’t want an age gap any bigger, especially now that all of my friends are pregnant with their second.

@Bumblebeemee, we seem to have started the two week wait at the same time, sending lots of baby dust to you. I’m trying to keep myself really busy to avoid symptom spotting but it’s not always working!

@MixedCouple, I also had to stop breastfeeding completely to get my hormones back in sync and I’m 34. Annoying that my hormones were so sensitive. Wishing you lots of luck for this month.

FirstTimeMumma2021 · 05/09/2023 22:54

Hope everyone is doing okay!
Right now I'm struggling to find the energy just to DTD which makes me.womder about 2 babies 🤣

Had positive OPK a few days ago so fingers crossed!

MixedCouple · 05/09/2023 22:14

Me! 36 and DS is 22months started TTC when he was 16mths but never worked out with timing. I was nursing on demand until July when he was weaned and that has made a massive difference with my hormones. So hoping this is our month.
Otherwise will be going to get an apt with the GP.

Was goping to have 2 under as I conceived DS 1st Month TTC. Thought I had the same genes as all the women in my family.
Both sides my Mum amd Dad are 1 of 7+ kids and my Mum was very fertile. Only difference is she finished having kids at 32 and I only started at 34. So I think that is a massive factor.

KM8 · 05/09/2023 21:08

I'm on day 24 of my cycle and started with some brown discharge today.....thinking AF could be on the way 😫

Bumblebeemee · 05/09/2023 17:19

I’m already turning into a crazy woman. I think I’m 2DPO if I’m counting right (guessing I ovulated on Sunday so that would be day 0? Or day 1?) I’m exhausted today and I swear I could feel bubbles popping in my belly earlier which is probably impossible. This will be the longest 2 weeks if I carry on like this!

deliwoman1 · 05/09/2023 10:51

@Mummysparrow thanks! That's good to know. I do have a significant bleed. My period has really ranged over the years from 5 days and now down to 2. It must just be age in my case. If I've not seen a sniff of a bfp after 6 months I'll go to the GP - hopefully they'll be understanding. This will be cycle 3 for me.

Sorry you had such a mare with pitcocin devil drip. So many of my friends have sworn it led to their interventions/ended up with c-sec anyway. That's why if I'm lucky enough to be pregnant again, I hope to avoid it at all costs. It seemed like lots of my friends were being unnecessarily hurried too - as in, no issues but midwives not willing to let them go more than a handful of days overdue. I know risks increase but if mum and baby are being monitored and all is well, why not? Makes sense that labouring spontaneously has the best chance of intervention free birth because our bodies are ready to evict the babies at least.

Definitely sounds like it's a good idea for you to ask the GP about iron. I wonder what happened with your levels during pregnancy/c-sec? Yes, totally mad they don't want to investigate root cause. 🙄

Bubblesandtroubles · 04/09/2023 22:06

@Chocolatehobnobs2948 we started trying in May and just starting 5th TWW. Probably well within the parameter of a normal TTC timeframe but when you're so quick the first time it lulls you into a false sense of security no matter how much I tried to rationalise it to myself when we first started trying for no2.
I had a forceps assisted birth first time round. Then some severe complications which mean I'm advised to be planned section for any possible future birth. I will of course follow their advice if I get there; but I do feel cheated out of a second chance to try and achieve what is the idyllic natural birth experience in my head!

Mummysparrow · 04/09/2023 21:39

@deliwoman1 I wouldn't worry about the period length as long as you are heaving a good bleed? Pre child and post child my periods have always been 3 days and only one day of that is full on bleeding, the other ends I only need panty liners and it was never a problem to me conceiving.
Pitocin I found brutal and I just can't be doing it again. Recovery from c section wasn't fun and I hated the injections (I had to get my husband to do them) but I would rather plan that then have a labour pumped full of Pitocin and end up with a c section anyway. Plus at least I wouldn't be so sleep deprived that I nearly fall asleep feeding my child after having them.
I am trying to get a GP appointment this week to discuss my iron deficiency as I want to start on pre conception multivitamins but the iron content isn't high enough so wanted to chat it though with the GP first. My dog recently had low iron levels and the vet wanted to work out the reason and sort that rather then iron supplements. It amazes me they don't do the same with humans. I had no issues with my iron levels pre c section.

@Bubblesandtroubles Fingers crossed! How long have you been trying, if you don't mind me asking?

deliwoman1 · 04/09/2023 20:46

@Wyewaving Like Mummysparrow, I also hope to try for a vbac if I’m lucky enough to conceive and carry to term. First time I had a planned c-section due to breech. Tried an ECV, which was brutal and obviously failed. Knowing what I know now I’m not sure I’d bother putting myself through that again. It was my initial plan to avoid drug-induced induction and move straight to c-section, so I’d want to do that this time.

I’m a bit worried atm as I’m having quite short periods. My cycles are regular and a standard length at 29 days, and OPKs + symptoms suggest I’m ovulating, but the bleed is only lasting two days. Flow is medium-heavy but it’s very short. Could this be a sign of a problem? Or just my old age (😩😭)? I’m concerned that there could be an issue with my lining. 😐

Bubblesandtroubles · 04/09/2023 18:23

Hi everyone,
Just entering TWW for what I think is the 5th cycle TTC #2. (Lost count!)

@Wyewaving none of that sounds daft at all! I was the same except Im a year younger than you but very much had it in my head I wanted to give birth before I turned 38- which I was really upset that I passed my deadline for doing so last month.

@Chocolatehobnobs2948 @Bumblebeemee we fell straight away first time around too! Ive really struggled with the failed attempts this time round but just got to keep in perspective that it's perfectly normal not to work first time and is not a sign of any problems in itself! Patience is not my strong suit...

I seem to have a shorter luteal phase than pre-pregnancy and had a few surprise shorter cycles which I'm hoping is not age related. I've started taking Agnus Castus this month so hoping that helps and makes the difference to get a BFP this time🤞

Chocolatehobnobs2948 · 04/09/2023 17:24

Hello all 👋 jumping on this thread for company and reassurance. First attempt at baby no2 has been unsuccessful, I know it was only the first month of trying but I'm so impatient and have all sorts of thoughts in my head (what if I'm too old, or have secondary infertility etc). Just waiting now until the next fertile window comes around. Last time it happened on the 2nd try so fingers crossed it will be 2nd time lucky again!

Wyewaving · 04/09/2023 15:15

Mummysparrow · 04/09/2023 10:56

My period has yet again behaved itself and turned up in day 28. I am hoping this is a sign that they are going to stay more consistent but who knows.
@Wyewaving I plan for next time around to go for a Vbac but as soon as an induction is mentioned I will swap to a scheduled c section. I got high blood pressure at 40 weeks pregnant annoyingly and they wanted to induce me but I started to get contractions two days before the induction date but they gave me Pitocin as I wasn't progressing and my daughter kept having decels. I ended up with an emergency c section. The pain was horrendous with Pitocin and I won't touch it again with a barge pole.
My hospital had a birth afterthoughts service and it helped me come to terms with what happened and therefore dealt with my birth trauma.

I was induced for high blood pressure at 41+3 last time. Though I found out during my birth afterthoughts meeting that once they got me to the induction suite (they wouldn’t let me go home from the assessment unit after I’d attended for a growth scan) my BP was fine 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m very torn on whether I’d accept another induction, last time I only got to 3cm but it turns out I had strep b and was quite unwell during labour - I just didn’t realise at the time.

My period finally started today. One app has me ovulating on the 19th, the other on the 20th. I’m away 15-22 🙄

Just looked and if we catch next month I’ll be due two days after my birthday!

JJM13 · 04/09/2023 14:24

I totally understand we have a 4 yr old DD and wanted to try for no 2 i concieved at 37 but sadly had a MMC in April , i really wanted to try again and be 38 when i gave birth but if we do concieve i’ll be 39 and so far it doesn’t seem likely i’ll even conceive it’s been 5 months with a possible chemical and not much else . It’s so frustrating but i am very grateful for my beautiful DD .

Hi everyone, decided to cautiously join in.

This is our first month TTC after DS1. I got pregnant first month after only managing to DTD once in the fertile window last time which was unbelievably lucky so trying to stay realistic this time round…. It’s not easy! I think I’m 1DPO so this is the tough bit waiting it out. Really hoping for a 2024 baby if we’re lucky 🍀

Mummysparrow · 31/08/2023 18:04

Here is a random topic for everyone. What have you learnt from your 1st pregnancy or first child that you will use this time around?
I am not going to share my due date this time around and either going to give a fake date or just give the month. I got really annoyed from 37 weeks onwards with people asking me if I had any signs of the baby coming and I went a week late. I didn't tell anyone when I went into labour but my sister guessed when I didn't respond to a message and told my mum and they kept blowing up my phone because they were worried when I wasn't responding. It really added to the stress I did not need (I had failure to progress). My mum explained her behaviour away as well she was just worried. As she used to be a midwife she should have known better.

I’m going to give a birth month and only tell a select group of close people my actual
due date. If anyone else pushes I’ll give them a date two weeks after the actual date.

I’ve also learnt to put my foot down with healthcare professionals, they really stressed me out in the last month of my pregnancy last time. Last time I was pregnant during covid and I felt like a deer in headlights a lot of the time. I’m hoping next time I’ll be firmer with people and not just go along with what they say. I’ve done A LOT of research into VBAC and my rights during labour, which I’m hoping will be handy.

Wyewaving · 04/09/2023 07:50

Hope everyone is well. No TTC last month as we were on holiday with my parents 🙈

Annoyingly, my period still hasn’t started so it looks like we won’t get to try this month either as I’m away from the 15th for a week. The two apps I use have totally different period start dates and ovulation dates. If one of them was right I’d have come on last Friday and I would have ovulated before I went away, but now it looks like I’ll be ovulating when I’m away.

So frustrated by this, stupidly (probably) I wanted to have another baby before my 39th birthday in July next year but now it looks like it won’t happen. I also didn’t fancy having a baby in the height of summer but if we end up catching as quickly as we did last time there is a chance that will happen now.

It probably sounds really daft but don’t feel like I can talk to anyone IRL about it.
