Getting pregnant after a chemical pregnancy loss

NursePeach90 · 04/07/2023 16:26

Hi everyone. I'm TTC baby number 2.

Unfortunately I had a chemical pregnancy loss last week and started bleeding 5 days ago and it has pretty much stopped now. I've been very upset regarding this loss, but I want to get back to trying for baby 2 as I really want to become a mummy again.

Has anyone got any advice regarding trying again? Or positive conception stories after an early loss please?

Thanks so much
Lauren

Sending you big virtual hugs @teampacey. It’s so heartbreaking. But we will get through this and our time will come ❤️

teampacey · 21/02/2024 23:39

I'm also finding this thread is giving me hope. Currently 4+0 and waiting for the bleeding to start after having tests that haven't got any darker. Thank you for updating and to all PP for the positive experiences shared.

I know this post is a month old OP @NursePeach90 but I have just sat and read it on day 2 of my CP and it has filled me with hope. Literally sobbed reading it.

im so happy for you and thank you so much for bringing me much needed positivity during this awful heartbreak x

Oh I am so sorry for your loss! CPs are heartbreaking. I think people that have had them are the only ones that understand. Please take some time to recover and I hope you get rainbow baby when you're ready. I like to think that this baby is my baby returning to me. He just wasn't quite ready that month. Sending lots of love xx

@SwordToFlamethrower have you had your progesterone checked? This is my first CP. feel for you x

SwordToFlamethrower · 21/02/2024 16:49

I've had 2 chemicals back to back and my bleed is now on day 8. It's been grim and heartbreaking so i really understand.

Might be worth getting your progesterone levels checked because that can be a cause.

Lots of love

@Pixiapple I'm so sorry for your loss. When I had my chemical I was absolutely devastated and could not see any light. I saw so many woman become pregnant next month and I thought nah it won't happen to me. I just have my fingers crossed this time! I really hope you have a happy, healthy and successful pregnancy soon. I felt ready to try straight away and ovulated 15 days after my first day of bleeding. But some women may need to take some time out. Look after yourself!!

Just an update. I've been anxious but that's to be expected. This time my pregnancy has progressed on Clearblue digital weeks from 1-2, then 2-3, to finally 3+ at 5 weeks and 1 day. I said I wouldn't do this again, but I got sucked in. But I have now promised no more tests now.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow and have an early scan booked in 1 weeks time. Fingers crossed all ok. I'm feeling very similar to when I was carrying my daughter. So fingers crossed that's a good sign.

Hope everyone else is well and I'd especially love updates from the pregnancies after chemicals and the lovely ladies who are TTC. Fingers crossed to you all. Baby dust x

Oh wow that is lovely news congratulations! 🥰Your story has given me so much hope and optimism I’m currently going through a CP, I started bleeding at 4+1 and am eager to try again when my body is ready to.

I hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy journey sending lots positivity your way! 😊 Wishing you all the best.

Congratulations! So sorry about your CP... I also had one last month. trying again this month. I was doing the Cb but only had 8 sticks and we decided to DTD every other day anyway.'I had 5 days of flashing smileys then ran out 🤦‍♀️ really hoping for a sticky bean!xx

So sorry for your loss, and best of luck to you! At least you got your flashing smileys. I was so happy to see the flashy, then I got peed off and wanted it to go away so I got my static! But at least you know your ovulation day was approaching. I really rate those tests. I really hope you get your positive and sticky baby x

So sorry for your loss. But thank you. Cautious but going to stay positive and TRY to go with the flow this time. Best of luck. I really really hope you get your positive and sticky baby! Xx

I've just got my positive on the month after my chemical. I'm so happy but it's still early days again, so very cautious. Any tips on how to ease my anxiety ladies? I really appreciate all your positive stories. You all gave me hope in such a dark time xx

Congratulations, wishing you all the best 🥰 It's hard after a loss as you are a bit scared to get your hopes up, I remember feeling I kept quite cautious till I was past the point at which I'd had my chemical (can't remember exactly but think it was around 6 weeks). I did pregnancy tests every day for a bit 2nd time round as I liked seeing line, then dropped every few days, and a clear blue digital every week to see progression from 1-2, 2-3 then 3+. It made me feel better but maybe not best idea looking back. Then I just had to stop and tried to go with the flow. I think I referred to maternity 2nd time after I'd passed 6 weeks. Because I'd had early loss I got sent an appt for early scan at 8 weeks, so that was slightly scary but reassuring (then found twins!). They are now 2 🥰

It's really hard but just try to take it day by day, try to accept its out of your control a bit now and just look after yourself as much as you can.

Something else I found really helpful and would highly recommend -can be used at any point really but maybe for slightly further in pregnancy is hypnobirthing. I did positive birth co online course (maybe around £40 but well worth it). Gives antenatal info and talks about birth, and informs you of choices and things that will crop up during pregnancy and birth. Helpful regardless of type of birth etc. I would say knowing things before they happened was so helpful. With having twins I knew it might not be as straightforward as a single baby and so did it feeling some things not relevant to me, but having knowledge and being ready for birth was really helpful. Abd I used breathing techniques from about 20 weeks pregnant - helpful in everyday life whether pregnant or not so I'd really recommend that xx

What a beautiful story. Thanks so much for sharing. It's difficult when anxiety raises its ugly head, but I believe in fate. I'm sure you do too now with your baby blessings xx

Try not to let the anxiety overwhelm you, and I absolutely know firsthand it's easier said than done as I've just been through it myself recently, even until the day of the section - until she was out.

Physically, apart from being tired as I had another baby at home (who's 16 months now) I was fine, mentally was another story. Combined with the previous spotting and bleeding from the hematoma with my son, then the chemical plus im sure you caimagine e some of the awful, tragic situations i see at work...

I did a pregnancy test every day for the first i weeks, despite knowing it wouldn't help, in my head the routine of it did sortve help my brain, even though I knew it wouldn't make a difference to the outcome. Was mostly cheap ones from amazon that come in the packs of like 20, but I did the clear blue weeks one (despite knowing it wouldn't change) twice a week too, so I actually dread to think just how much money I pissed away on pregnancy tests, literally .😅

I became absolutely obsessive with loo roll. I'd literally sit and inspect every single millimeter of it when wiping after a pee for any tiny sign of the slightest streak of pink. It then got to the stage I would hold as long as I could before going because I couldn't face potentially seeing any blood or spotting, ended up giving myself a bad UTI from it, and also made my foof sore from the constant wiping to check if there was anything (probs tmi but hey ho - i know im not the first or last whos done that). Looking back I wish I hadn't got so obsessive over it as it definitely did diminish my enjoyment of the pregnancy since I was too fixated on the past.

.... that was longer than I'd intended that reply to be, but sometimes (at least after I'd just had my chemical) its comforting to know you aren't alone and aren't the only one doing these things. Don't let it consume you like I did.

You got this ❤️

So sorry you're going through this, I had a chemical in March and got pregnant the following cycle and I'm now 17 weeks. I know how devastating it feels but I don't think there's any reason to hold off on trying next cycle if you feel ready to xx

This happened to my BFF too!

Had my daughter 19 years ago, had unexplained fertility ever since with 2 different partners, even saw fertility specialists who couldn't pin poont anything. Then during covid I was stressed and made the comment about there being a bit of a baby boom due to isolation, consultant colleague laughed and said "less moaning, you might be next, go put the kettle on". I took 3 steps out the room and realised my periods were late, then noticed my boobs were bigger so went next door to our Early pregnancy unit (I work in Fetal medicine) took a test and it came up straight away, scanned myself and was 4+3. He's 16 months now and a tornado of chaos despite the horrible subchorionic hematoma bleeds and severe hyperemisis (lost 9 stone through the puking, was awful). That same colleague performed my c section ironically.

When he was 5 months my period was late (despite being on the pill and breastfeeding) and the line came up right away, I was still on mat leave so couldn't be cheeky and scan this time. Started spotting a few says after I found out, the got heavier, trip to Epu confirmed chemical miscarriage unfortunately. Went back on the pill and next cycle fell pregnant again, she's 7 weeks now and that pregnancy was an absolute breeze apart from anxiety about any spotting starting, it never happened abd I sailed through it.

Tubes are clipped now, we've completed our family and with our history of fails on the pill, it was the safest option.

Don't give up hope OP, thinking of you and sending positive thoughts and hugs your way ❤️

@NursePeach90 those are the ones I use too. I pinned too much hope on it happening straight away but guess it wasn't meant to be.
