@Goldie1234 I'm not sure that there's any actual confirmed science behind it, but there's a bit of a theory that 'male' sperm are faster and more successful at reaching the egg, but that they die out quicker, and that 'female' sperm are slower but have more endurance so they are more likely to survive the few days before ovulation 🤷‍♀️ we've always dtd regularly during fertile week, but always made sure to hit ovulation day as we wanted quick success at conceiving and we've ended up with 2 boys, so I suppose this time were thinking we might just DTD earlier in the fertile week and not on ovulation peak to give more of a chance of conceiving a girl 😅 may take us more cycles to conceive though!

Goldie1234 · 03/07/2023 00:06

@Vic231 thinking of you for Tuesday!

@GinAndBearIt90 Oo I'd never heard of swaying as term ? Does it just mean trying at certain times ?

Ahh @HavinKittens did the doctor suggest taking anything or just wait ? Sorry if you've explained this all already 🙈 !

GinAndBearIt90 · 02/07/2023 21:16

@HavinKittens not going to lie, the first 4 months or so of having 2 was very difficult! Definitely survival mode!! My eldest was only just 2 and a big mummy's boy so I did constantly feel awful for not being able to give him all the attention he needed all of the time...but now that they are a bit older it is so lovely and we definitely found our rhythm ❤️ so much so that we now ideally want a 2ish year gap again rather than the 3ish year gap we originally planned for a third. Starting again a year sooner than we thought we would 😊

If you do have another boy, I can promise you its amazing! Mine only get on about 50% of the time at the moment but I already can tell they are going to be such close friends for each other ❤️ and they are both so so loving to their dad and I! I really would very happily have another son, I just think I would feel a little bit sad to think I would never have a daughter. Will have to wait and see, but 3 healthy babies would be the dream!

That is interesting about your blood test, I didn't know OPKs could be so misleading!! Fingers crossed for you 🤞

HavinKittens · 02/07/2023 17:49

Oh sorry forgot to say - no I had a blood test at GP and m my progesterone was much lower than it should have been, indicating I hadn’t ovulated. I had positive OPKs that cycle but that isn’t a guarantee. I remember my BBT was all over the shop though so maybe that was a sign. I’m just hoping it was a one off, GP said it probably was 🤞

@rosecbrm oh awesome, even tho DH and I eloped (covid times) I love a big wedding. I’m going to a big family wedding next weekend and I can’t wait. Hope it is everything you want and more! Yes if this is your first I deffo think keep it fun and no pressure. You’ll fall in no time I bet.

@GinAndBearIt90 aw thank you that’s kind. DH has been great today actually and I’ve had a nap and a cuddle and feel more human.

You’ll have to tell us the good, bad and ugly of having two! Haha, it must be good overall if you’re going for number 3. I come from a big family and want a big family myself but now I’ve had one, I’m not as sure any more!! 😅

I get what you mean about at least having a go at swaying. I would be over the moon to have a girl. I am mentally trying to tell myself if it happens it’ll be a boy though, so I don’t get disappointed. Won’t even let myself think about girl names!

@HavinKittens
My second is almost 14 months. It's different this time as I haven't been on the pill at all, just using other contraception. Whereas after my second I went straight on the pill, came off 6 months before planning to TTC and my period came back right away but I just had very long cycles for the first couple back. Aiming for another 2 year age gap so I feel like it's all come round very quick this time and I wasn't even back on folic acid until this week 😅 I've just done an OPK and it's very weak so will just see what happens, maybe I ovulated but just no period!
Is it your OPKs that suggested no ovulation?

I'm sure swaying it doesn't have any evidence base at all haha but I've 2 boys from hitting my OV days perfectly! So going to try and aim for a few days before instead and see what happens 🤣 I don't mind another boy if I feel we at least did attempt to sway!

rosecbrm · 02/07/2023 16:09

Thanks for the reply @HavinKittens!

It's quite big actually, we have around 70 guests in the day and an extra 50 in the evening 😅 but so excited!

My cycles since coming off the pill over the pill have been more or less regular, always around 28 days cycle with a day or two between, however the past couple of cycles I've had a couple of days extremely light bleeding before bleeding heavily, so that has been a bit confusing as to knowing when my cycle started etc!

But yes, this would be our first! But we're really trying not to put any pressure on anything, but obviously that's hard when you're thinking about it a lot!

Also seen your previous post, hope you've managed to sneak a little nap in between now and then!

HavinKittens · 02/07/2023 16:00

I remember finding waiting for our scan hard, the not knowing. I hope it gives you clarity and you can move on with whatever happens next @Vic231
will be thinking of you

@CinderRosie let the 2ww begin! I’m 2dpo I think. I’ll be a family holiday up until cd13 so I hope it’ll keep me distracted and away from the tests!!

hi and welcome @rosecbrm congratulations on your upcoming wedding, how wonderful. Will it be a big do or more intimate?
Your cycles sound regular so that’s a big plus. Will this be your first?

welcome @GinAndBearIt90 how old is your second? I got my period back v early (I think before 6mo post partum) but had a test that indicates I’m maybe no ovulating. Definitely adds extra confusion when you’re bf.
I have a little boy and I would love a little girl but I had read there’s no evidence that swaying works??

Hoping I can also join! Just about to start TTC #3 and was wanting to start this July cycle but its already proving more complicated than the last 2 as my period hasn't shown up as expected 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm still BF my second child and only had my first post partum period there last month...but my second period is now late so I suspect my cycles are going to be all over the place! I think a combination of a bad tummy bug a few weeks ago and DS2 still feeding loads has maybe delayed this next cycle. Bit frustrating, but I've some OPKs arriving in the post today so will hopefully help us to conceive either way 🤞🤞🤞
Also we are hoping to possibly sway for a girl this time as have 2xDS already and this will be our last baby...but 3 boys will still be amazing!!

rosecbrm · 02/07/2023 13:52

Hey all, hoping I can join?

This was our first month TTC, although not being super strict.. we are getting married in a week so that's taking up most of my spare time at the moment and I don't want to add any extra pressure, but we aren't being careful when DTD.

I am currently CD16, and we DTD on CD11 and yesterday (CD15). I haven't used OPKs this cycle due to not really getting chance with the wedding planning and also just not wanting to put extra pressure on, however I have in the past on a couple of cycles (just for insight and gain a bit more knowledge on my cycle leading up to TTC!) and have noticed my peak is always around CD15-17 and I did have some slight cramping last night and this morning which I can only assume is ovulation!

This is our first month of not being careful when DTD and we're not actively 'trying' as such by OPK testing etc etc, so I'm fully not expecting anything this month, but I just wanted to join in the the thread as it's nice to have people to talk to who are all going through a similar thing!! I also feel like knowing we DTD last night and realising that it was most likely my peak, it's going to be on my mind!!

Also, massive congrats to those on you BFPs and sending lots of baby dust to those trying ✨
Xx

CinderRosie · 02/07/2023 12:12

My temp shot up today too, not massively so but it’s the highest it’s been all cycle. I’m 2-3 DPO today and officially the TWW starts again….

Vic231 · 02/07/2023 11:19

Hi everyone a little update from me, scan is on Tuesday when I'll be 6+1. Bleeding has officially stopped, so I bled not lightly but also not heavily for 5 days, so in my mind I'm thinking it was a chemical and just a 8 day late period. I do feel sick off and on though and tired and headachy but I'm thinking that might just be the worry and anxiety. We shall see 🤍

HavinKittens · 02/07/2023 10:04

Thank you everyone for your kind replies. It made me feel better. Didn’t sleep well last night but feeling alright today. My temp shot up this morning so I guess I did ovulate in the last couple days.

hope you’re all doing okay? X

LA7887 · 01/07/2023 10:45

@HavinKittens oh no, wait til he gets up and then go back to bed. Get a wee nap in!
I can't say anything as out of me and my DH I am the one who goes out more 🙈.

I do worry about having a second sometimes but my son loves babies and actually has asked for a brother or sister so I'm hoping it will be a good thing and even he will help :)

X

LlamaMamma · 01/07/2023 09:49

@HavinKittens solo parenting is hard isn't it!! Especially at this age when they want to eat every object they see and climb onto everything that's not suitable for climbing...
hopefully he'll be up soon and you can have a nice cuppa in peace!!

CinderRosie · 01/07/2023 09:47

@HavinKittens sorry you're having a rubbish start to the weekend! You are definitely owed some time to yourself from your DH when he wakes up. As well at DTD 😜

I'm finding DH is up for it but it is me who needs to instigate things and remind him what day of my FW I'm on and that we need to do it. We didn't mange to last night because we had a mini argument about it 🙄 My BBT is still low today so I feel I ovulated either yesterday or it's happening today and we last DTD Thursday. I just can't see how anything could survive that long to wait for the egg although I understand it can survive 5 days sometimes.

CurlyWurly1991 · 01/07/2023 09:46

@HavinKittens sounds like crappy morning 😞 will you get any time for yourself over the weekend?
yes since TTC it has changed the dynamic between DH and I regarding intimacy. It sure will become draining if it goes on for months/years of TTC.
@PollyDarton1 i still don’t know if I ovulated last cycle but had a bunch of symptoms then af came at what would have been 9dpo. If you’re using fertility friend did it detect ovulation? Sorry can’t remember if you said this already. I have the vip membership and find it really good although much of it is there in the free version.

DmcinT · 01/07/2023 09:43

@HavinKittens oh I’m sorry ur having a hard time, it’s full on solo parenting ❤️
and rem once is enough, it only takes 1 🙏🏽😉 how close to O did u get to dtd?

i deff think the pressure of having to perform puts them off doing it at all, I know my DH has said this in the past. U would think they’d be loving life 😅 but it must make them overthink it a lot

HavinKittens · 01/07/2023 09:11

Morning all
I’m having a bit of a rough time over here.
DS has been awake since 5 and DH is still in bed, sleeping off his night out.
He hardly ever goes out so I don’t feel like I can go and wake him but DS has been pretty hard work.
I’ve had 24 hours + of solo parenting now and I feel depleted! It makes me question how on earth I would manage a second one!?

Didn’t manage to DTD so it’s only been once in my fertile window this cycle. So definitely not getting my hopes up this time. Determined not to test and just wait for my period.

Anyone else feel like their DH wants intimacy LESS since they’ve been ttc??

PollyDarton1 · 30/06/2023 20:41

@CurlyWurly1991 come to think about it my BBT never confirmed I'd ovulated, but then I missed a few days. I had all the symptoms I usually have when I ovulate but stronger, and even though the light period has stopped I'm still having symptoms that usually stop midway through my bleed (cramps, sore breasts, headaches, sense of smell heightened). Honestly I could have sworn I was pregnant, I wasn't really trying to symptom spot but it was crazy how similar they were/are. I've got near constant tightening around my public bone, pelvic pain, sore breasts etc.

CinderRosie · 30/06/2023 15:55

@HavinKittens I'm going to delay testing until AF is due. Last cycle I didn't test until I started getting spotting at 12ish DPO, as I started thinking it was implantation and I caved... I always spot before AF though.

LlamaMamma · 30/06/2023 15:24

I'm also having the weirdest symptoms- got a cold which is very unlike me (my husband, baby and parents who we're currently visiting all without the cold, normally I'm the one with the strongest immune system), nearly fainted whilst walking down the stairs (been eating fine, not starving), cramps 2 days ago at night... 🤔 but 12dpo negative test

CurlyWurly1991 · 30/06/2023 12:18

@PollyDarton1 so sorry to hear about the bfns. I had something similar last month, wasn’t doing OPKs but had fertile cm and cervical position etc. My bbt generally suggested that I didn’t ovulate, but I missed out loads of temps while travelling in the second half of the cycle. Around cd 23 I started having loads of symptoms very similar to when I was pg before, even spd. I was convinced, but didn’t test early (kind of wish I had) anyway I got several negative tests then a light bleed followed. My guess in my case is that I didn’t actually ovulate and the symptoms were really high oestrogen unopposed by progesterone… alternatively might have been a failed implantation, although it is assumed that the symptoms only follow with rising hcg after implantation. However I know there is a lot about womens health, fertility etc that is not yet understood by western medical science and I would trust your instincts - perhaps is it was a CP 😞
in my news I’m 8dpo and waiting to test. Raging Pms but don’t know if that signifies much. Can be sure I ovulated this month based on the bbt chart which is reassuring at least.

LA7887 · 30/06/2023 12:06

@LlamaMamma very possibly. I'm not over thinking it just now, what will be will be. I'll wait til my period is closer

Oh and DP is happy to have sperm analysis but I don't know where to start? What is the recommended facility to do so apart from NHS? We'd need to expedite the process as I'm 39 in six months!

So I sent my husband to a private clinic and I think it was somewhere around £100? That's in central London. My gynae technically analysed the results but we didn't look at the results in too much detail because I got pregnant. Presumably you could take the results to an NHS GP or a private andrologist?
