Catch up later at work and best do lots as got to nip out for blood test. X

GryffinGirl · 27/02/2008 10:22

damn....just typed a super long message and it deleted itself . Will post it again later but wanted to say a HUGE congratulations to coolkat. BFP!!!! . I am thrilled for you both

we needed some good news on here after all my moaning and whinging!

hattyyellow · 27/02/2008 09:38

Coolkat can I scream congratulations!!!!! now (or are we still whispering? )

GG how you doing today? I'm sure you are a googler extraordinaire and already have every bit of info possible on improving sperm but I found the below, which is encouraging - DH can still have coffee which is one good vice! Does he drink much caffeine?

And the study also shows that you can still have 3-4 units of alcohol a day without it making a difference to fertility so that's not too bad..still a couple of pints with the lads etc?

Keep drinking coffee, if you like it. Two Brazilian studies published in 2005 confirmed earlier suspicions that caffeine could improve sperm motility (the sperm's ability to move). In one study of fertile men who were about to have a vasectomy, men who regularly drank six or more cups of coffee a day had significantly higher sperm motility than men who didn't have the coffee habit. The second study looked at infertile men and found a similar effect of regular coffee drinking associated with improved sperm motility and antioxidant levels. Improvements in sperm motility seem to get higher as coffee intake increases but there is no evidence, as yet, that increasing your caffeine intake will definitely improve your chances of conception.

? Cut back on alcohol. While an occasional drink is generally considered safe, experts agree that drinking excessively will impair the quality of your sperm. Heavy consumption of wine, beer or spirits affects your hormone levels resulting in decreased testosterone levels, and it also affects the ability of your testes to mature the sperm properly leading to lower sperm counts and increased numbers of abnormal sperm in semen. There is no evidence that moderate drinking (within the range advised by the Department of Health of three to four units of alcohol per day for men), has any impact on male fertility. Visit www.drinkaware.co.uk for more information on working out your daily alcohol intake.

Hi all Coolkat congratulations that is great news good luck!!
mibbes glad that drs went well good luck

I am on cd32 still no sign of af
had nausea and cramps yesterday, also boobs itchy and tingly

twinklingfairy · 26/02/2008 21:59

Oh my goodness mibbes, that is good news, yeah to the nice doctor
Makes me think maybe I should not be so scared to go and pester mine
Just have to choose between the lady who has never had children and seems a little unsure about the whole thing (then again, she may refer me to someone else quick smart just to get rid of me) or the man who looked at me as if I were a fool when I said I had skipped a month of taking my folic acid

GG how awful for you DH I can't imagine what my DH would feel if he were in his shoes. Probably would retreat, as MOB said, to lick his wounds.
Talking of men and their reactions to things mibbes you made me LOL at your DH being proud of his man ness and ability, to hurt you I know my DH feels the same. He tends to hit something sometimes as well. He says nothing along those lines but you can tell
He has been doing it for years and it was only recently that I realised what it was I just thought that he hit something, it took MN to make me realise what it was he was hitting.
Has made me think about positions though, for projection of little men

Wowee wowee! Yeah for you coolkat Can't believe that they won't do a pregnancy test at your docs How ridiculous is that!!

Still here MOB bet you wished you hadn't asked now
phew, what a ramble!!

Nothing to report from me, hence my absence, cept sore tum on CD8-9 Thought it might be early ov (it was really quite sore) but the same thing happened last month and my temps stayed down, and have done this month.
I am worried by the link that mibbes put on ( I think it was mibbes) about an internal exam. It showed images of cysts. So I now have one of those!!
But I did have a stange incident as a teenager when I had a lump down below (bout the size of a marble) You could actually see it, not just feel it, but the doc told me it was prob nothing and not to worry. It went away about a week later and I haven't really thought about it since.
But why would you get pains a few days after AF has left, that are Not ov pains??
And they can be missed, so......worried, me?
Of course You all know me, I love a good worry!!

mibbes · 26/02/2008 21:28

coolkat oooh good news missus

coolkat · 26/02/2008 20:25

Hi Ladies, See GG told you everyone would be here to support you.

DG good to see you.

Well went doc's explained about all BFN's and then the one that as not to convincing. They don't do preg tests at the doctors She booked me in for blood tests tomorro and says results back in 24 hours. Went to book test and they said results back in 5-7 days So booked test for tomorrow but sneaked in chemist to buy another test. Peed on stick when got home and BFP staight the way! According to last period date I am 5wks 5 days.

Still ging for bloods so that if I bleed she can take them again and see if they are increasing etc or she will see if the pregnancy not viable etc.

I hope you do not think I am being insensitive GG, I understand you are feeling low. X

So I am staying here a while as last preg did not last all that long! Also keeping a secret in RL, its quite funny really just me and DH who know and its lovely. Anyway best stop rambling got to go and check my knickers again!

madoldbird · 26/02/2008 19:48

Good evening everyone

JB i hope i manage to catch you before you head off. Just wanted to say - best of luck for the scan - i'll be thinking of you on Thursday.

Welcome tantiK! Spotting in front of your eyes sound like a good symptom - haven't heard that before (now we'll ALL want that.. just wait)

Coolkat hope your appt went well today.

Mibbes likewise - hope all went well with the GP, and that your "broken bits" are ok! . Hope you mentioned it to the GP - always best to get these things checked out.

EI good to see you. What a difficult time you are having with work. Is there any way you could get something else and tell them where to stick their job??

GG I'm sure you are still in shock. Unfortunately DH is maybe going to need to retreat into his cave (as all men do) and lick his wounds for a bit. Doesn't help you, though, does it.

I was thinking about you this afternoon, and that led me to thinking about a friend of mine. She and her DH had been TTC for years. They eventually found out that he had a v low count, and she had various problems and they were told that there was no way they would ever conceive naturally. They didn't want to try IVF, and decided to make the most of the positive aspects of not having children i.e. time to themselves, decent disposable income, lots of nice holidays, freedom, etc. They now have two gorgeous boys. (They couldn't believe it - they just forgot about things, and it happened) I know that doesn't help you at this present moment, but i hope it gives you a glimmer of hope.

Bucky has set out a good list there. You may want to think about general fertility supplements - my DH has started taking this and i take the "girls" version. Do you think he would be willing to pop a few vitamins?? As Bucky has said, alcohol and smoking should also be a no-no, but that is easier said than done. Likewise with caffeine. Anyhow, i shall stop wittering on at you now, just wanted to share a few thoughts that had occurred to me.

Not a lot to report here. Still feel like AF is about to appear (achey low down, and low cervix) but she hasn't as yet. Very stupidly did a test earlier (slap me someone) of course it was a BFN. Now trying to convince myself i may just have been too early (+ve opk week last friday... may not have ov'ed till sunday... may therefore only be 9DPO...) why do i do that? I know she's on her way!

Oooh, nearly forgot! Nice to see you DG!

digitalgirl · 26/02/2008 17:55

GG bucky's list is a brilliant start. I'm sure you'll be doing a lot of your own research, but please don't despair. There'll be a solution, it's not the end of the ttc world, it's just the beginning, now you can do something that you know will help rather than doing stuff that's actually a waste of time (you don't need to take clomid or flush your tubes out).

He probably needs a while to come to terms with it himself, and I'm sure when he's ready he'll talk to you (let's hope its sooner rather than later). It's a really big deal for a man to have his fertility questioned...when it's us, we women just have a good old cry and then immediately start demanding tablets, hormone supplements, injections and all sorts to get it done.

Have faith GG, we'll help you find a way to get your BFP.

Bucky2008 · 26/02/2008 16:55

There was 'stop drinking and smoking' too on the list, but not sure how you are supposed to 'stop being stressed' and 'stop drinking and smoking' isn't that a contradiction...

Bucky2008 · 26/02/2008 16:51

Have been out at meetings but had to see how you got on....

There is no doubt that it is crappy news, but at least you know now and can be proactive about doing something about it. I have been Googling and there is stuff that can be done....To do list for GG's DP:

  1. Go Commando
  2. Stop going to work till 12 midnight
  3. Make GG cook nice nutritious dinners
  4. Take lots of zinc .
  5. Sleep
  6. Go to doctors and pursue further tests.
  7. Do yoga to counteract stressful lifestyle.
  8. Air out bollocks regularly to keep them cool.

It is not my intention to make light of the seriousness of the situation GG. Please don't take it that way, just wanted to cheer you up a bit. Hopefully Gryffinguy will get over the shock and take steps to make things better. I think now that you know, things will get better...and you know...Bucky is psychic!!! Well actually MrsEi is psychic but I have 'the feeling' that I had with DG

digitalgirl · 26/02/2008 15:57

sorry to hear about those results gg. Am out and about at the mo but will pop back on later to see how you're doing. Lots of big hugs dg xxx

hattyyellow · 26/02/2008 15:48

(((((((GG)))))))))))))))))))))))) xxx

mibbes · 26/02/2008 15:20

GG am so sorry about DH's results . Men can totally miss that we want to discuss feelings - they are more practical and want to fix things, not discuss how it affects us emotionally I have a terrible time getting DP to discuss anything more in-depth than the football scores. I imagine you are doubly frustrated in that if it were an "issue" with you then you can do everything in your power to fix it but you can't force DH... how frustrating. And of course there is the male ego to consider, so you have to tread carefully. Do you have to article about male fertility issues you mentioned the other day, is there anything practical you can ask him to do ? He may respond to that better than emotional chats ? I really feel for you GG as I know I'd be tearing my hair out if it were my DP. Big {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} and apologies if the above is just useless ramble, just wanted to let you know I feel for you both. mibbes xx

EiWishFor3MoreWishes · 26/02/2008 14:55

oh GG im so sorry to hear about the poor result i know what you mean about how you 'knew' it was the problem before you actually knew it was iyswim i have had the same thoughts about my DH's boys and im thinking about asking for a test or getting a home test. (my thoughts are spurred by the amount and texture of his stuff ie not much and really thick and sticky) just try and remember that although the count is low you only need one (although odds are higher if there are loads) to fertilise an egg so it CAN still happen and i firmly believe it WILL still happen for you xx now you can give him a HUG from me xx

Sorry GG, You must be feeling really low. Stay with us, we will do our best to support you in what ever way we can. X

Just a quick post as at work.

GryffinGirl · 26/02/2008 13:37

p.s. DH wasn't offered a follow up appointment or any advice or anything . At least we are forceful intelligent (well, I like to think so anyway ) people who know what to do

GryffinGirl · 26/02/2008 13:34

Jolly I have asked DH to make a follow up appointment with his GP (whom he really likes, thank god and is great) and he can explain the results to DH and the next steps. From reading other threads on here, I thought that results were normally divided up into sperm count, volume, morphology (whatever that is) etc, but DH wasn't told anything more over the phone than "very low".

DH says he will make the appointment, but I suspect he won't get round to it without some pushing. I don't want to push him today or he will get angry/upset .

I feel absolutely wretched saying this about my lovely, lovely DH, but I knew, somehow that this was the issue. Feels like the end of the TTC world today, even though I know that technology is wonderful and there must be loads we can do.

JollyBear · 26/02/2008 13:23

GG Poor DH, he is having a difficult time. Have you made a GP appointment yet or been offered one? It might be a good idea to have the results explained by your GP and discuss the next steps. It might help you feel less anxious about the implications of the result and as you say the possible 'rollercoaster' ahead.

It must be hard for you to have to deal with your own feelings about it as well as supporting your DH.

GryffinGirl · 26/02/2008 13:13

thanks and welcome TantiK -personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a glass or two of wine when AF is around. I think general advice for improving chances of conception is to cut down on alcohol, but look at all the conceptions that happen when people are blind drunk, so I don't think you should stress too much about it.

thank you everyone for your support about DH's results. I can't thank you enough. Knowing this doesn't feel like the answer to the question and the end of the wondering, it feels like the beginning of a long and stressful rollercoaster .

I spoke to DH again and he said there's no point in him coming home early "only to have some long and involved discussion, when we don't have any more information" . But what about talking about how we are feeling

pinkgirl30 · 26/02/2008 13:08

welcome tantik go on treat yourself to a glass of wine on me one wont hurt enjoy

TantiK · 26/02/2008 13:05

Afternoon all - am slowly finding all the relevant TTC threads to tag onto! Lovely to meet all of you and I look forward to sharing a glass of champagne with you all soon.

In terms of symptoms last month I had a terrible headache and spotting in front of my eyes when I ov'd - never had this before and a friend said that means that my body is getting ready to be impregnated!! Lets hope so. I also had the worst PMT ever - we had a few probs after DS1 was born so feeling depressed isn't good for my thoughts about the permanance of my marriage - I know it is only hormonal, but it feels so serious at the time!. No symptoms for me yet this month, hopefully this means that we are still in time and in with a chance.

BD night tonight (good for the marriage!), but we BD'd last night so will try to think of something persuasive to BD again!
GG - for you and hubbie, there are always hurdles to overcome in life, I am sure you will manage these ones. Stay positive. Here are some positives for you +++++++!

PS - Am I right to justify the odd glass/bottle of wine when AF is around and when I know for sure that I am not PG (i.e. the first half of my cycle)?!! Or am I really ruining my chances??

pinkgirl30 · 26/02/2008 13:04

Hi all

Hi Madoldbird- still no af on cd 31, have had nausea today and abit of cramping. testing sat if still no sigh of af
sorry gg this must be a very hardtime for you

GryffinGirl · 26/02/2008 12:47

thank you so much jolly and madoldbird - I am so glad to have such brilliant friends around on this thread 'cause I absolutely don't know what to do and of, course, can't speak to anyone in RL. I do nothing, I suppose, until I sort it through in my head, speak to DH and get him to the doctor fast.

Poor DH too - his mother is having a major operation as I type this, so he is very confused today.

I can probably give up symptom spotting for the time being.

JollyBear · 26/02/2008 12:33

Oh GG

I'm so sorry. I hope he changes his mind and comes home early so you can talk it through. What a difficult situation for you both

Thanks for wishing me all the best. You are so lovely to think of me when you are reeling from this news.
