40+ TTC this year

👋
I'm just trying to get an idea and a bit of hope in TTC over 40, and for me...mid 40's!
I'm 44 and will soon be 45 🙃
TTC number 2.
Have been trying for over a year.
IVF not an option.
Delayed our TTC number 2 because of Covid.
Anyone in the same boat?

@Tillyminny are you TTC your first? Would IVF or donor eggs be an option for you?
And I'm sure you are already, using OPKs and tracking with an app.
I use Flo. Although when my period was later by a couple of days it bugged me with its "do a pregnancy test!" "Are you pregnant?" "Switch to the pregnancy app" 😃😩🤦🏻‍♀️

summerbreeze2000 · 30/03/2024 05:42

@Tillyminny I'm 45 and have been TTC number 2 since I was about 43,
Had DD1 when I was 40.
I'm all but given up hope on this one.
Conceived DD1 within 7 months of trying 2 years has been long.
However I've kind of stopped obsessing over it now.

Tillyminny · 30/03/2024 00:47

@SwordToFlamethrower how are you getting on? I’m TTC at 47 so I’m interested. I’ve been trying since I was 43 but nothing at all. Had fertility tests and at 43 the tests were okay but now I E got less than 1% chance

Tillyminny · 30/03/2024 00:44

@rainyday32 did you conceive? I’m 47 and been TTC since I was 43. I check my ovulation every month but also told I have a less than 1% chance now. Although when I started TTC I was told my results were not too bad. Obviously declined quite quickly. I don’t know if i should just give up hope

@Rosyposy26 let us know how you go...that sounds positive to me.

I'm out out again this month....slightly heavier AF and was 2 days late so I'm hoping it's not the road to menopause just yet 😩
But I'm 45 now.
Anyone with anymore 45+ positive TTC stories 😊

Hey unfortunately every test I’ve done since then has been a BFN today I started spotting so think AF is about to arrive. Massive headache and feel nauseous part of me is hoping it’s implantation but realistic I know it’s not.

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/02/2024 12:35

Male fertility can and does change with age and diet so always have a sperm analysis done as a first port of call.

It's wrong and medical sexism to say men don't develop fertility issues.

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/02/2024 11:15

In my 40s i had 6 rounds of IVF to get a baby and then, 2 miscarriages in a row 3 and 4 months post partum cycles.

We had 1 natural pregnancy in 2016 that ended in miscarriage at 5 weeks when we were avoiding sex during ovulation. 6 years of actively trying and not a single BFP!

I'm almost 47, so it's not surprising the pregnancies didn't stick, but 2 in a row?! We haven't been using contraception and thought that sex could just be for fun now.

It's been a devastating loss.

I did a test yesterday and was BFN so maybe a evap line. Still have sore breast and feel nauseous but working out dates I’m only 11DPO so don’t want to test again yet.

Hi everyone, I turned 41 this month and am ttc no. 2. DD is 19 months.

We've been trying since last July and so far, we've had one miscarriage (anembryonic), that took a few months to resolve, so I guess it's not been that many cycles yet. The big difference I've noticed is that last time I found it easy to catch - I conceived on 4 out of 5 consecutive cycles and had three losses before DD. The only cycle I didn't conceive was due to a burst ovarian cyst. It was a hellish year, but I could be almost guaranteed of a bfp. This time, nothing (apart from the blighted ovum).

I'm sure my egg quality is terrible, and now I'm also thinking my reserve is probably super low. AF due tomorrow, and BFN today. Pretty disheartened atm.

Did a test this morning a faint positive line. 9dpo Will retest at the weekend. Currently feel nauseous and have very sore nipples. Hoping this one sticks

Hi all, I hope you don’t mind me hoping on this thread, I am 41 and have been trying to conceive my third (conceived the other two children no issues) this time since trying I have had 6 miscarriages and 1 mmc at 10weeks. I have had all tests done and all fine. I take vitamins, tried acupuncture. My periods are on time and I take opk’s every month. Can I ask what vitamins does everyone take?

Sorry to hear this.

I started Proceive Max last month - it was on offer at Boots so thought I’d give it a try- not sure I will continue at full price though. I had been having shorter cycles for the last 6 months and also lots of breast pain from around day 12/13. The last one was the shortest. I took Proceive and suddenly it jumped back up to 30 days and only slight pain which is much more what I was used to for the last few years. I assume that the vitamins may have had something to do with it. I thought I may have actually been pregnant this time but then AF came.

Isitthathardtobekind · 18/02/2024 22:42

@Lin380 thanks for the positivity! I have 2 children who are now 11 and 12 so another reason I would like to soon if it will ever happen again.

I’m on
Proceive and the omega 3 also.

I had my first two children at 23 and 26 but trying again suffered mc at 7 weeks but baby stopped growing 5+5. Hoping within the next week to get a BFP

@Lin380 thank you! sounds like all is going well for you!

I got pregnant straight away at 31, 32 and 42. Just before 43 I thought I’d like to try again and it’s been over a year now although mostly as a see what happens thing.

Think I’ll give it another couple of months as I feel currently like if it’s going to happen, I would like to be 44 still - any longer and I’ll be 45. At 43 I thought will have to give up by 44. I’ve had shorter cycles for nearly 6 months and this one was suddenly longer so thought it might be it, but not!

This thread has given me hope, but really I think it’s not meant to be anymore for me.

Sounds like you’ve got a good chance of it happening if got pregnant straight away at 42! Did you have a baby at 42? Only asking as if you were breastfeeding then fertility is very much reduced initially.
Prior to this pregnancy, I’d had shorter cycles for more than 6 months. Plus one cycle that had been longer then followed by very sudden heavy painful bleeding, almost felt like continuous labour contraction for about an hour after, felt very faint and had to lie down and thought might need to call an ambulance. Had never had a positive test but did wonder after it had been a m/c that has never progressed to stage of giving a positive test. Although had previous early m/c at 4 weeks at 38 and had no pain or particularly heavy bleeding.
With this pregnancy got lots of cramping (like having to walk around to ease it) for a couple of days around time due on (which don’t remember with previous pregnancies) so thought m/c inevitable especially given the stats but baby stayed 🥰 Think it will happen for you x

Hi @Lin380 - would you mind me asking whether you were 44 when you conceived and how far in you are? I turned 44 in Jan. I was really hopeful this month but it didn’t work out and now after a year, I’m not sure it will.

Conceived just before my 44th birthday and 19 weeks now. Was still getting regular periods and signs of ovulation although not every month and cycles had got shorter. We weren’t trying as such but had perhaps allowed a few chances over the previous year and this was the first month it happened. Previous to 40 it tended to happen on the first month. Was very aware of high chance of early m/c at this age so very nervous till first scan and now nervous about anomaly scan as very aware of much higher risk of genetic issues. First trimester screening results technically low risk but far higher ‘risk’ results than previous pregnancies. Otherwise feeling no different to previous pregnancies.

Good luck!! Xx

Hi everyone, I'm 39, almost 40, and will be coming off contraception (mirena) soon to start TTC. I am very overweight, but haven't managed to lose it so I think it's time to just get going.

I'm taking folic acid and had bloods done to check my blood checks and hormonal levels last year and all was good.

Other than that I haven't really an idea of what I should be doing to maximise chances, and any advice or encouragement would be welcome.

I have a 10 year old stepson who lives with my and my husband full time, so we have our little family already, and I don't want to get too obsessed with TTC, but obviously want to maximise my chances as well.

Best of luck to you all!

Hey I’m 42 nearly 43 and fell pregnant December first month after coming off mini pill, but mc on the 2nd this month. We started trying again straight away. Tracked ovulation and now in tww. Not really expecting anything to happen this month. Just wanted to say hi and it’s a comfort to read the positive stories.

@Walkthelakes thanks so much for your reply. It does give me hope but I do feel like at 45 my chances have passed 😓
It took 7 months to conceive my DD but I was 39 then and gave birth a week before my 40th.
My DH was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when we fell pregnant! We were having tests and everything came back fine but he had this diagnosis just when we fell pregnant.
I'm thinking his medication may be impacting his fertility to have another....
But he wasn't taking medication before we conceived and would have had high blood sugar readings so ? Not sure...
