thank you @Iusedtobedontcall !

@birdbybird that's spooky! how has IVF been for you?

birdbybird · 23/05/2023 17:23

@ladybranstonpickle I am 42 and 43 in November and had my first in December 2019 too... coincidentally.
I've been trying IVF though. In a couple of weeks may be starting what is my 4th cycle.

BabyMamma7 · 22/05/2023 20:53

Hi, im 42 snd TTC baby 4.

My youngest is 13 so been a while.

DH had a vasectomy reversal in 2022, TTC for 14 cycles. Nothing for the first 10...had 2 chemicals since January.

All tests are good, DH lower than average motility.

I have my HSG this cycle then going to move to IVF possibly

TraceyTarotReader · 22/05/2023 20:25

@Iusedtobedontcall thank you so much ❤️

Iusedtobedontcall · 22/05/2023 19:49

Hi all. So the NHS are going to offer me a colposcopy within 12 weeks. I’m wondering if I should go privately and just get it done quicker. You can have a colposcopy when you’re pregnant but they will delay any treatment so I don’t need to worry about TTC. It sounds like it’s nothing to worry about.

@Kelb79 so excited for you and your little embryo- I am sending lots of love your way.

@YellowLoafers how are you feeling? Hope all is progressing nicely.

Good luck this month @TraceyTarotReader

Welcome @ladybranstonpickle and @FrankieRose82 .

TraceyTarotReader · 22/05/2023 19:08

@Kelb79 hey you mean how long have I ttc ?

TraceyTarotReader · 22/05/2023 19:02

@YellowLoafers thankyou lovely I feel out already we have only bd 3 times in my fertile week but trying to stay positive hope your okay x

ladybranstonpickle · 22/05/2023 15:45

Hi gang, wondering if I could join in? I am 42 (43 in November) and TTC my second - my first was born Dec 2019, and it took me a while to be ready to have another, as the pandemic maternity leave experience was really hard for me. Once I felt ready to TTC again, I started a new job last year that I needed to really focus on and didn't want to be pregnant a few months in. So here I am, feeling a bit concerned that I really have left it too late...This is month 5 of TTC, although I don't believe the first two months were proper cycles after removing my Nuvaring (contraception). Husband is happy to try for another but has ruled out any IVF or highly interventionist approaches...He'd be quite happy with just the one, tbh.

I'm either O day (CD19) or 1DPO today. We managed to do it CD14, CD16, CD17, and CD 19 (today) but not yesterday (CD18), so am worried we missed it! Will keep going for at least two more days I think?

YellowLoafers · 22/05/2023 14:25

@Iusedtobedontcall Oh no 😞 Sorry this is happening to you, it’s so worrying. Hope you’re not waiting long for follow up appointment.

@Kelb79 Exciting!!! Fingers crossed you’ve got a few good embryos busying away! Have you had conversations with clinic on transferring more than one at a time? Keeping everything crossed for your little embryos and can’t wait for your update!

@TraceyTarotReader Hoping you’re doing well lovely and this is your month! 🤞🤞

@FrankieRose82 Welcome! 👋

Kelb79 · 22/05/2023 11:04

@FrankieRose82 welcome and good luck!! Don’t give up DTD at 1DPO - there’s still a chance! Today/tomorrow 👌🏼😉

@TraceyTarotReader how long has it been lovely?

I just had an email from the clinic confirming that I’ll get the final lab report tomorrow or Wednesday sooooo reading between the lines, I know we’ve got at least 1 day 3 embryo 😝😝😁😁🥳🥳🫣🫣

FrankieRose82 · 22/05/2023 08:02

Hi
I'm 40 years old and now 1dpo.

Tracking with opks for the first time but only managed to dtd once on peak reading.

Baby dust to all

Kelb79 · 21/05/2023 12:49

@Iusedtobedontcall 😩😩😩 ffs!! What a nightmare!! Sending love ❤️❤️ great that they’ve found it early and are on it though 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I’ve had HPV showing on my last 2 smears and it worries me sick even though I know how common it is 😵‍💫😵‍💫 you can’t help but sorry can you?! 😐
how are you doing otherwise lovely?

Im 2 weeks away from potential transfer (😳😳😳) but still haven’t had the results of the donors cycle so I can’t book flights or accommodation or anything!! It’s awful not knowing!! Meds aren’t the most fun in the world - lots of headaches and sooooo tired!! Not even started the pessaries yet 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️😩

hope you’re all doing good and enjoying the lush weather this weekend xxxx

Iusedtobedontcall · 19/05/2023 15:48

Hi all. Not only am I not pregnant this month but I’ve also had low grade dyskarosis on my smear so have to go for a colposcopy. All good fun here!

Kelb79 · 19/05/2023 15:27

@PP82 absolutely agree with PPs - your journey is exactly that … “yours”. And your choices are never wrong. There are a lot of people working within the fertility industry with very strong ideas, our doctor jumped straight to DE IVF on our first consultation (aged 42) but we were adamant that we wanted to do OE first, it didn’t work out so we’re now on a DE cycle so she was right, but we had to know and he sure that we were making the right decisions for us.
I agree with previous comments that 6 months TTC is not long so definitely keep trying, get the specific fertility tests to ascertain your individual stats and pinpoint any potential problem areas and then make the decision that feels right for you. You’ve got time, DE IVF can be done in some clinics until the age of 50 so there’s no need to rush and you can give natural conception a good go first 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 good luck!! And read “it’s starts with an egg” to help the natural journey 😁😘

YellowLoafers · 19/05/2023 11:41

Hi @PP82 and welcome 👋 I’m sorry the appointment was confusing. It’s often a bombardment of info and Drs will have their own opinions on what you should do! It’s a deeply personal decision on how you proceed, we’re all different (as you can tell from the PPs who’ve shared with you so far!) so it’s not one size fits all, and the stats for IVF over 40 are a bit doom and gloom.

My own experience is that I’m 42, currently 8 weeks pregnancy via OE IVF. We started trying a few months after I turned 40, well, I say trying but once I researched into what actual trying meant (temping, OPKs etc) I realised we were being a bit casual! Just being off contraception was not enough for us 😂 So started properly trying from just after I turned 41. Didn’t get even a hint that of a natural pregnancy, so we had fertility testing when I’d turned 42. The diagnosis was unexplained infertility, and because my AMH was “fine” for my age, the consultant advised that OE IVF was worth trying. So I’ve never properly considered the DE route and how I’d feel.

Is it worth talking through options with a counsellor? They may be able to help you work through how you’re feeling and the keep trying naturally versus going for it now scenarios. Good luck to you ❤️

October1979 · 18/05/2023 21:55

Hi @PP82 I decided at 40 to TTC naturally for as long as I could then go straight to DE. I had 2 missed miscarriages which were medically managed and 7 chemical pregnancies in my journey. Getting pregnant wasn't the issue it was staying pregnant. I suspect it was my egg quality. At 42 I decided enough was enough and went straight to DE. I figured if it hadn't happened naturally in 2.5 years then it wasn't going to with OE ivf . I couldn't handle the disappointment of it didn't happen. I decided to start my DE journey in prague in April and was pregnant my second transfer in September. This pregnancy resulted in my triplets that are 8 weeks old and perfect. Good luck on your journey. Only you know what's right for you x

Hi @PP82 - welcome and sorry to hear the appt wasn't as helpful as you wanted to be.

If you've only been trying for six months, and are 41, it could still happen naturally. My experience was trying naturally for 12 months aged 40 and then conceiving my daughter aged 41. I had a very uncomplicated pregnancy and she's 15 months now and I'm 7 weeks pregnant with number 2, aged 43 and after 5 months of actively trying to conceive naturally with my husband, who is 37.

Wishing you all the best as you go forwards xxx

99pctpractice · 18/05/2023 09:51

Hi @PP82 ! Totally understand why you're a bit confused after your appointment. It sounds like your consultant didn't really listen to what you had already considered and the plan that you wanted to adopt. I think it isn't unusual for consultants to think of de being "last resort" and expect you to want to do everything you can to know oe won't work for you before moving to de. It sounds like you already know that you are comfortable going ahead with de if it doesn't happen for you naturally, so I'd agree with your reservations about age and cost. Just my experience, but I decided to go ahead with oe ivf (at 40), and had a year of 5 rounds of unsuccessful oe ivf which was not great for my marriage or my sanity. We didn't get pregnant through ivf (though we had a natural conception miscarriage along the way) and it was just a very sad process of watching my egg quality decline and the results get worse in real time. So I would say my experience is in line with the stats. But then I have friends who it has worked for first or second time of trying with ivf (in their 40s) so that isn't to say it can't happen, just that ivf isn't a magic silver bullet, especially after 40. I would definitely go with your gut on this one : I don't regret doing oe ivf (because I think I would always have wondered "what if" if I hadn't), but I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you're already not sure it's for you....

I would probably go for private tests but mostly because I'm impatient and don't like waiting! but again it depends how much the results would impact your plans : amh / ovarian reserve won't really tell you that much other than how many eggs you will likely produce in ivf (even with low amh you can still conceive naturally) or how close you are to menopause. They would need to do a hycosy or hsg to see if your tubes are blocked. Sperm analysis / dna fragmentation tests can be useful because there are lifestyle changes that can really impact sperm quality in a relatively short period...

Good luck!! And hopefully you don't need ivf either way :o)

PP82 · 17/05/2023 13:25

Hi ladies. Feeling very confused following first appointment with fertility specialist. I am 41, DH early thirties. Been trying for 6 months and so far, nothing. It would be our first child for both of us, and I have never been pregnant. We are from the UK but live abroad so different healthcare system.

It’s easier to get tests and investigations done under the public system here, and so far everything has come back fine, except for slightly high blood glucose, which I need to watch because I’ve put on quite a lot of weight recently and diabetes runs in my family. Have appointments lined up to test for my ovarian reserve and AMH (thought these were the same test but apparently not? – am not conducting appointments in my first language so it can be challenging!) and DH’s sperm but will not get all the answers from the public system for another few months. We would not be eligible for any treatment though, due to my age, so will have to go private for that.

Anyway, going into this I had, in my own head, a very clear plan, and DH was fully on board. This was to see if there were any problems that could be treated without having IVF (ie no blockages requiring surgery, nothing that could be treated with hormones/drugs) and if nothing of this nature cropped up, continue trying naturally for a year or two. I have absolutely no issue with using donor eggs, and regardless of how test results come back, feel a certain amount of trepidation when I look at the statistics for OE IVF over 40. We can afford a few rounds, but do not have endless amounts of money to throw at this. In short, would rather try naturally for longer then straight to DE than jump in using own eggs right now.

However the fertility doctor threw all this into confusion. She encouraged us to go straight to a private clinic, where we would get results and consultations faster. She said I may well still be a good candidate for OE IVF, but that at 41 I couldn’t waste time. She seemed to see DE as some sort of last resort consolation prize, which is not how I see it. This has made me question myself. We are lucky, in that we could go and get the ball rolling privately tomorrow if we wanted. However for various reasons (mainly related to work and finances, also some health reasons too. Nothing that would prevent TTC/IVF but things I’d ideally like to get sorted first) it just doesn’t feel like the right time.

I realise most people would think it mad to still be postponing at my age, but I’ve got a history of making unconventional life decisions! At this point I’ve waited such a long time to be a mum that I don’t want to get on the IVF treadmill, with everything that entails, until I feel like the timing and our situation is right. Am I mad to leave it, and potentially lose my last chance to use my own eggs, as the doctor seemed to think? Or should I stick to my guns, and do what I feel is right in my gut? Any perspectives/experiences/input much appreciated! (Sorry for the essay!)

Lauraliverpool · 15/05/2023 14:19

@Kelb79 we did IVF about two years ago, which didn't result in us having a baby, got a son who was conceived naturally. I had counselling after the ivf, which helped me process everything and i thought that was the end of the road. For the past couple of months I've been thinking of donor egg ivf as possibly may increase our chances. We have a consultation this Thursday to explore it more and see what they say. At the Hewitt centre, they have said that the waiting list is about 9 to 12 months. Xx

YellowLoafers · 15/05/2023 13:49

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my update! ❤️ I’m definitely more relaxed now. Another scan on Thursday to see what the leaky blood vessels are doing, so hopefully there’ll be a good update on that. I’ve had no spotting for 2 days now so that’s a good sign 🤞🤞

YellowLoafers · 15/05/2023 13:32

@Hopingforamiracle12 I echo what @Kelb79 said. Our journeys and possible outcomes are all so different. I’m 42 and currently 7 weeks pregnant via IVF using own eggs. We had fertility testing back in October and were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. The consultant suggested that IVF with PGTA testing of embryos was the quickest way to “achieve a pregnancy” so that’s the route we went down. I’m assuming that you’ve been trying a while if you’re contemplating IVF later this year. If that’s the case, I’d suggest getting tests done as soon as you can so you know how the land lies and can make plans accordingly. Good luck and do ask any questions here, it’s a lovely and supportive place. It’s kept me sane x

Kelb79 · 15/05/2023 12:31

@Lauraliverpool it definitely took my longer that I thought it would to get my head around it all. We finished the last round of OE IVF over 6 months ago and I wanted to go straight ahead with DE but OH held me back saying I needed more time to process it all. I didn’t think so then but he was right. I wasn’t ready, it’s a lot to get your head around. But now it feels exactly the right thing to do and I’m completely relaxed with it. Physically it much easier - Downregging is never fun but easier than stimming. The process being with a Spanish clinic is quite strange, being completely anonymous you know nothing about what’s happening on the donors side of things until the embryo culture results so I’m just following my med plan and hoping that all goes well with her EC and embryo fertilisation and growth. Transfers booked for 3 weeks but could be cancelled if something goes wrong. So that’s a bit harder to deal with but also nice to be able to just forget about it and wait for news 🤷🏼‍♀️
are you considering donor egg? xX
