Every time I seem to find a reason not to home birth I come up with a solution!! And yes, besides the fact that I know I would be calmer in my own home, the midwife to myself and guarentee use of a birth pool (if I hire one) really appeals.

Re the age I am 34 (shhhh dont tell anyone).. I met my dp when i was 28 after finally breaking free from a violent relationship.

We saved for 4 years to put down a deposit and finally bought our home 3 years ago. Then we started saving to get married but things changed when i found out i was pg in 2006. DD was born last March.

The only down side of me meeting dp and having children later in life is that we will never have a big family as i am to old.

I dont know if they meant established labour. If I lived in the middle of nowhere without neighbours I'd consider it.

PLaying, I'm contemplating a home birth for no.4, but can't say i'm a natural candidate on paper! With 2 out of 3 dds I had an epidural (low pain threshold I'm sure!)and just seem to panic when I'm in labour (plus have had 2 back to back births)and not sure I could handle just ghas and air (I think you can get pethidine prescribed in some areas, but have never got along with itn personally!). Will be something to ponder over the coming months anyway (and at least it guarantees you a midwife's attention!).

Playing I am well aware of the differences in buying and renting, having done both, I actually meant that whilst everyone is doing everything and anything they can to get on the property ladder, how strange it is that we are doing everything we can to get off it. We must be the only idiots people who is desparate to sell up, at least for the time being!

I went for a home birth with DS2 (have I said all this already?) not doing it this time, but since DS1's labour was 12 hours including 15 moniute of pushing, and DS2's was 2 hours with 4 minutes of pushing, I think I may end up with one!

Yay Geordie another deranged person like me who is considering/decided on home birth for dc1. By the way I didn't mean to make it sound like 30 was old, just that if I can I would rather do it younger, I'm sure you know what I mean!

Kay, how can 20 hours be too quick to have a home birth . Thats sounds like bollocks to me. Who cares about the neighbours, its my house .

No Playing I was told I should as they said I had a quick labour which I dont understand went into labour at 4pm monday afternoon had ds at 12:15 the following day so only 20 hours!!!
I just couldnt do it think of your neighbours!!

Anyhow, on a completely different subject, I do realise I am not pg yet, but.. is anyone considering a home birth?

course you dont Nat, you have owned for several years and I am sure as house prices have gone up hugely you now have a substantial amount of exquity (correct me if I am wrong and I will take it back). If you had never owned you wouldn't have that! The rest of us without that money find the first step very hard, if you get out now and rent you will have money sat in the bank for when you want to buy again, we wont!! And, there are advantages of owning besides a great financial investment, you can do what you want to the property, no one is going to chuck you out with 1/2 months notice etc. Not that I am saying renting doesn't have its pluses, it does, if you find a good place and a good landlord, for instance if the boiler brakes down the landlords pays not you! We are finally lucky that we have a nice house we rent, in good decorative order, in a good location and a landlord that wants long term tenants and is happy for us to make any improvements we want. But that is rare. Still, we will have to buy at some point, you cant retire and still pay rent, no matter how could your pension is it won't cover rent as well!

Geordie I know about the house thing. That was my main reason for waiting all these years. Wanted to do things "the right way", girl meets boy, they get engaged, move in together, get married, buy house, have baby. Did fine up to the buy house thing, just can't afford it, can get a mortgage but that is more expensive then rent so we can't afford for me to give up work then, plus we dont have the deposit. I started the very first one of our threads completely confused on what I should do, wait (saving deposit) buy then have to wait some more (too broke to afford to give up work) then have baby early 30's or just have the baby. Figured if I did the buying thing first not only would this weight in my heart that is desperate for a baby get worse but it would actually be years before we could do the baby thing. Would be lucky to manage it before 30 and that was a risk I was not prepared to take. What if I got to 30/31/32 started ttc (after years of heart breaking waiting) and find I had a problem. No amount of bricks and mortar could compensate for that. I have all my life to buy but not all my life to have babies. Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with being an older mother/leaving it till 30's or even 40's to have kids. Its just that having had the good fortune to have found the right person to have babies with in my 20's and to not do it, just for the sake of money, if I found I did have problems (more likely as you get older anyhow) I would always regret that decision.
