Hi ladies
I've looked for a thread for this but didn't find a recent one so is there anyone who would like to join?
I turned 40 in December. I have 3 older children, got married in November and my new DH and I have decided to try for a baby together. He is 49 this month.
Very concerned that our ages will be against us! We don't want to go down the road of fertility help and will probably only give it this year to see if it's meant to be! I was previously adamant I didn't want anymore babies but slowly changed my mind and now I would love one more!
I'm currently waiting for the return of AF following the depo contraceptive before I begin tracking ovulation..which I've never done before!
So that's my story in a nutshell.
Anyone else 40+ who would like to form a support group with me?

Hey all, I’m 42 and TTC #1 as that’s just how life worked out. Was on some other threads but removed them from ‘I’m on’ while feeling down and lost track so glad to see this one pop up.

I had an LH surge / peak on Sunday and I think I’m 1DPO. We’re going to the GP for investigations if we have no luck this cycle.

@Hariboislife I’ve been having acupuncture for a couple of years and some major health problems have completely improved in that time which is how come we can TTC now (I was on very harmful medication before).

@Holls81 sending very best of wishes to you for your appointment.

How is everyone else doing? Thanks for this thread!

Holls81 · 16/05/2023 12:04

Hiya. I’d like to join please.
just turned 43 and being trying since I was 41.
cycle 18 and not a single positive test. Regular periods and a 21 day hormone check that came back ‘normal’.
Feeling disheartened tbh.
DH is 45
2 children conceived very quickly in mid/late 30s and 1 miscarriage between them (also conceived 1st month of trying.)
we have 1st NHS fertility appointment in a couple of weeks and I’m feeling so nervous about it.

Hariboislife · 25/04/2023 17:55

It does make me wonder whether it’s the acupuncture or just something else when women say it’s worked for them. Can’t hurt to try I suppose. I’ve got my first session next week

GingerFox2021 · 25/04/2023 17:39

@Hariboislife I’m doing acupuncture over a year now but still nothing. However, many women say good things about it.

Khanny · 23/04/2023 14:16

@Hariboislife hey, I’ve been keeping low, trying to keep away from forums and obsessing. I haven’t seen my neighbour in just over a month due to Ramadan and she just asked me today if I am expecting😥I’m an average size 12 so maybe my stomach looked bloated but my gosh my chest hurts. It’s all we want🤞🏻🙏
We have our first appointment at the hospital on Thursday, presuming it will be more tests.
Hope you’re doing okay xx

Hariboislife · 22/04/2023 22:57

Hey ladies, how is everyone doing? A friend of mine has recommended have acupuncture, anyone tried it or heard any success stories?

Hariboislife · 29/03/2023 09:06

I’m lucky in that respect as my OH is younger by 7 years. If he was older it would certainly be a consideration. But then people are living longer so depending on their age they could live until the child is on their 30’s. Only you as a couple can make that decision and do what you feel comfortable with x

Isthisexpected · 29/03/2023 06:42

Do you wonder what it will be like for your youngest to lose their dad in their teens is twenties? That's what put me off having another one - husband being older.

MrsJonesey · 29/03/2023 06:37

Morning @Hariboislife
Glad you've had some results and they're good
I feel the same about IVF etc. we've decided we won't be going down the route of any assistance if it doesn't happen naturally this year. Well DH has! I'll see how I feel later on about things and see if I need to persuade him or not haha!
I'm still waiting for either ovulation or AF. I've minimised opk testing now as I'm not getting any rises. I get sore boobs and cramps and think somethings happening but then it comes to nothing! It's been 6 months since I had the depo injection so could be waiting a while yet 🙄

Hows everyone doing? I had my consultation today. My AMH levels are 7.9 (usual range for 40-44 year old are 0.7-21.2) so happy with that. We spoke to the clinic about options. They suggested IVF but that’s too much, we already have 2 children and conceived them both naturally as well as the pregnancy we lost last year so IVF seems to big a leap. They recommended IUI (with Clomid medication and scans) but again that seems a bit much. I’d consider the medication which would ensure I ovulate but I’m hoping we can get the sperm to the right destination on our own! We’ve agreed to give it a couple of months and if it doesn’t happen while tracking etc we’ll consider the medication etc

MrsJonesey · 22/03/2023 17:29

@Hariboislife good news then! Sometimes, no matter what, it just seems to take a while for all the right things to happen at the same time! When you think about the chances of that one little tadpole meeting that one little egg at the exact same time it's amazing we reproduce at all! But it's tough when you see young friends posting pregnancy announcements one after the other with seemingly no effort! Maybe they have more stamina!!

Hariboislife · 21/03/2023 16:07

Had my scan today. Good number of follicles so that’s not an issue. Having a blood test then meeting with the consultant next week. All seems ok my end though so perhaps we’re just not trying hard enough 🤣

MrsJonesey · 20/03/2023 08:38

Wow well done. I could do with losing some weight too but I just can't motivate myself!

JC084 · 20/03/2023 08:34

Hoping yours comes soon so you can get tracking! I did lose just over a stone In the last month and a half so I reckon that's what meant I had a longer cycle x

MrsJonesey · 20/03/2023 08:29

@JC084 good news then. Happy tracking from now on. Wish mine would hurry up!

JC084 · 20/03/2023 07:58

@MrsJonesey thanks for asking ... AF has appeared this morning on CD41
To be honest, I'm just glad she's here so I can get started again!

MrsJonesey · 18/03/2023 22:06

@JC084 did you test again?

I've had an opk show as my peak today even though the line was really faint. Anyone have any thoughts?

JC084 · 15/03/2023 14:29

Hi all, I'm not over 40 just yet but am 39 so hopefully I can join in this thread :)
We are TTC again but aware age goes against us. We have a 2 year old and I'd really like one more - my husband is ten years older than me.
Period is currently 5 days late but have done a few tests and they've come up negative. Just want AF to hurry up and start so I can get tracking again.
I recently lost around a stone in weight and so wonder if this has delayed my period. Normally I have a very regular cycle so when it was first late I got very excited... but the tests say otherwise. They were internet cheapies though so have ordered a better brand and will test again in due course...

Iusedtobedontcall · 14/03/2023 16:32

I’m in a similar situation as I have 3 dc in their teens but this would be my first with DH. I’m not sure where I am now as I’m only 3 and a bit weeks post d and c (medical reasons) and I’ve had a weird sort of bleed today and yesterday, but it’s not a proper AF. So no idea.

MrsJonesey · 14/03/2023 15:46

Welcome @Khanny
Similar situation to me then
Here's hoping AF arrives soon for us so we can get cracking! Never hoped for AF to come so badly!

Khanny · 14/03/2023 15:38

Hi everyone, I am 42 and actively TTC. Not used contraception since March 2020 but have only been tracking confidently (ish) for the best part of a year really.

I have 2 grown up boys to a previous marriage and now me and my (younger!) dh would love a family of our own. Praying a lot that this is our year.

I think my mistake has been buying and trying every pre-natal/fertility vitamin that I have seen success stories about, but all they have done is ruin and delay my cycles so I am starting a fresh tomorrow on just Folic Acid. I have had a referral regarding my fertility as dh sperm analysis was normal, I am waiting on an appointment. Had my bloods done in 2021 which were normal but due to my age I'm not confident they would be the same again. I started taking Evening Primrose Oil to increase CM at the beginning of Feb and haven't had a period so am stopping them after reading a lot that they have caused delayed AF for others too. I just want AF to start so we can begin tracking properly again.

MrsJonesey · 14/03/2023 14:43

Congratulations @Mitsahne how exciting!

Iusedtobedontcall · 14/03/2023 09:37

Hope all goes well @Hariboislife .

Thanks for the support - I am doing ok and hopefully this will be a good year for us all.
