Hi ladies
I've looked for a thread for this but didn't find a recent one so is there anyone who would like to join?
I turned 40 in December. I have 3 older children, got married in November and my new DH and I have decided to try for a baby together. He is 49 this month.
Very concerned that our ages will be against us! We don't want to go down the road of fertility help and will probably only give it this year to see if it's meant to be! I was previously adamant I didn't want anymore babies but slowly changed my mind and now I would love one more!
I'm currently waiting for the return of AF following the depo contraceptive before I begin tracking ovulation..which I've never done before!
So that's my story in a nutshell.
Anyone else 40+ who would like to form a support group with me?

MrsJonesey - i’m not sure there are such things as false positives if you do the test correctly and look timely, I think those are lines of not successful implantations.
I got what assumed yesterday, glad at least that my period is still on scheduele :D

Hariboislife - I also am wondering where to draw the line - statistics are dropping at 43 but would I be able not to try??

Now that there is no hope for this time I again am feeling like a normal person, but that DPO until it is possible to get realistic testlines is like I am loosing my mind :p But I take it easy on myself and say, that it is so huge thing and there is no way it could keep a woman cold. Especy because I already know how those tiny creatures feel like in your arms.

I paused treatment over the summer as it didn’t work with holidays and having the kids at home so back on it now! I’m currently taking provera for 7 days to induce a period, then Clomid for 5 days then the ovitrelle injection once the scans show follicle is ready. We’ll try this for couple months and if nothing happens that we may stop treatment. I’m 43 in a couple weeks so have to draw a line somewhere

MrsJonesey · 10/09/2023 19:31

Welcome @MrsPepper82
There's still hope especially if you had a faint second line.
About 3 months ago I had 2 positive clear blues but they were false positives..couldn't believe it!
I'm having results AF now but still no BFP
Starting to think it's just not meant to be for us.
How's everybody else?
Any positive or exciting news from anyone?

Hi! Joining this chat, as we are TTC#3. DH 45 and I 41. One teen and one preteen are already so independent, that we felt the urge to have some new activity :)
Now it has been 7 months, before we even started I took AMH test, according to that and also my other hormones my ovarian reserve and results are within norms for 30 year old. Plus history in my family where 3 closest female relatives got pregnant just about 41-42.
Our issue was already on our first 2 the sperm quality.
At first I took it easy as all other parts of my life are so fulfilling and great, and I was even happy that I got my AF as it meant I good keep practicing my freedom. But this month we went on a family trip where there were families with newborns, babies and toddlers and I have been crying after my BFN. Was already so hopful, as I never had any breasts soarness nor fatique like this time. Even DH said that am I positive again. First test gave a faint second line but more sensitive test 2 mornings later was with controlline only. Today my AF is due.
I only have 2 CB OPK s left so I hope those give anotger smiley face and there would be no need to buy another.

@Holls81 I had my blood test and Hycosy at the beginning of May and my results were discussed when I had my next appt (which was last Thursday). We have been discharged now following the results - clear tubes and an "ok" FSH of 12 which is high but given I am 42 gynae said it wasn't bad and there is no other reason for us not catching an egg. She advised me to take folic acid and vitamin d and aim to bd every 2-3 days! I am taking a CoQ10 supplement on top of these hoping they will help me release a decent egg. Good luck to you, hope you get your results soon and you get good news xx

@Khanny that's fab news that all seems normal. Fingers crossed for you.
my husband and I both had tests in July but my next appointment isn’t till beginning of October so was hoping I’d hear before then if they’d discovered any issues.
Does anyone know if this is the case?
lost track of what cycle I’m on but it’s around 22 now (super regular) and still not a single positive. Has anyone else has this and then had a sudden surprise BFP? 🤞🏻

Hariboislife · 24/07/2023 21:47

Had my trigger shot 14 days ago, has a negative pregnancy test this morning ☹️ Absolutely gutted as really hoped this would help. Now to decide whether to try again with tracking scans and more ovidrel, go for natural or stimulated IVF or give up. Summer holidays now so it’s harder to find time for all the scans and we’ll probably be away when it’s time for next injection. Might have to put it all on hold (keep trying naturally, naturally!) until after summer

Morning. We’ve had (over the last couple of months) tests done at the fertility clinic (NHS)
does anyone know roughly how long they take to come back to you? We’ve heard nothing!

Pollywoddles · 11/07/2023 08:23

@Hariboislife I really wouldn’t bother with the ovulation tests if you’re being monitored and triggered. Just dtd 12, 24 and 36 hours after trigger and you’re covered. It’s stress you don’t need at this stage.

Hariboislife · 10/07/2023 21:17

How’s everyone doing? We’ve started tracking with scans with a fertility doctor. Today I had a 19mm folicle so I’ve had a trigger shot of Ovidrel - hoping that does the trick!

Still not getting a reading on the ovulation test strips. I was using the clearblue and got a flashing smiley on day 5 so really early. It then kept flashing. I had a scan and blood test - both showed there was no surge of anything. I contacted clearblue and spoke to a few different people, all gave the party line that there must have been something even though I had blood results to show there wasn’t. Anyway, won’t be using them anymore! If we don’t get pregnant this cycle I’ll stop using the tests, they don’t seem to help me so it’s just adding another layer of anxiety. Anyone else had problem with the ovulation tests?

Holls81 · 03/06/2023 10:21

Advice please🙏

ORCHITIS…. Or EPIDIDYMITIS
has anyone’s partner had this in the past and has it affected their fertility???
Went for first fertility appointment yesterday.
Doc asked if husband had ever had it.
A few years back hubby was in lots of pain and went to emergency doctor with severe pain in/behind testicle. Was given antibiotics for it at the time but not sure he was ever actually told the name of what he had.
We now have to wait 4 weeks for semen analysis but it’s now got me thinking.
19 cycles of tracking ovulation, regular periods, ewcm, normal results on 21 day progesterone test and bd every day during ovulation and not 1 single positive test.
Maybe it’s not just my eggs!

Any advice needed please!

Hariboislife · 22/05/2023 12:09

I had my first solid smiley face with them yesterday as well. So we DtD yesterday and will do today as well. The other tests I used showed higher levels yesterday (so that’s good) but today the levels were really really low so 🤷‍♀️ Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason 🤦‍♀️

13Bastards · 22/05/2023 09:47

I started doing the clear blue ovulation tests this month and have just had a smily face. DTD Last night, so we think I need another go tonight and tomorrow as well?

Khanny · 18/05/2023 12:05

Hi everyone. Thought I'd update my circumstance too. I'm so sorry this may get long...
Had my appointment at the hospital with the gynocologist who basically said there is no reason for us not conceiving from what he can see so it is IVF. He's giving us 3 months to decide and in the meantime I have had bloods taken again and a Hycosy which I had to book in on the first day of my period...here is where the problem is.

I have noticed my periods are not as regular as they used to be, and I put it down to the supplements I have tried but I am worried it is my age now. I missed a period completely in March, started brown spotting Friday 5th May so made the phone calls for my bloods/Hycosy. Had bloods the same day (Friday 5th) but then the spotting turned into a red period Tues 9th May and I had my Hycosy Friday 12th May - bleeding was very stop start and so the nurse agreed to do the Hycosy anyway and she said my tubes were clear but I did have a lot of endometrial lining but that could have been the blood. And the blood has not stopped since, so I am now taking tranexamic acid to try slow it down.

When I started bleeding I took soy isoflavones for 5 days (after reading so many positive outcomes) but I am to yet stop bleeding to see if I even ovulate from them.

We cannot afford IVF and we would have to fund it ourselves as I have already had 2 successful pregnancies in the past.

Good luck to everybody else, still praying this is our year x

Hariboislife · 18/05/2023 11:01

I never seem to get a ‘peak’. I’ve started using the clear blue ones as well as the easy @ home ones to see if that makes it clearer as not sure if maybe my peak numbers just aren’t that high 🤷‍♀️ I took Clomid for 5 days so really hoped that would increase the eggs/surge or whatever but doesn’t seem to have done anything ☹️ will hopefully get a period this month (or not but you know what I mean!) so can try again next month

According to the app I'm 10 days late. But now I'm looking at the ovulation stick pictures I'm not convinced I did have a peak..I'll attach see what you think!
This is a rough ride for sure!

@MrsJonesey sorry to hear you’re in limbo like this! How many days late are you?

I think I’m 3 DPO. I hate this rollercoaster of hope and disappointment - I just want to know already.

MrsJonesey · 18/05/2023 07:41

Morning all
I'm updating as haven't been on for a while.
I'm still waiting for either a period or bfp
Last month I had a positive ovulation test for the first time, tracked with premom app which told me it was my peak. Hubby and I acted accordingly! The app then showed the end of my tww being the last day of our holiday in Spain! But no period and no bfp happening! I had two days of very very light spotting but otherwise...nothing!
It's very confusing and frustrating. I've had days where I've had cramps and thought right here comes AF, I've had days where my boobs are so sore I've thought I'm definitely pregnant...but nothing is happening!!!!
I don't even know when we would be eligible for testing with the gp because I had that stupid depo injection in September so they may just say I have to wait for period. I'm worried it will never come now!
Rant over..sorry for the long post Confused

Yep same here @hopefulsquirrel most of my friends kids are getting older now, even my nieces and nephews are adults! I do worry if it happens I will be the oldest person at Nct classes or whatever 🤣

I hear it’s much more common to get people 40+ at NCT classes these days!

My youngest nephew is 3, but I’m still clueless about babies

Hello! Creeping in as I just turned 40. Have been trying for 7 months, no joy yet. Would be my first so have no idea what I am doing!

I also have no idea what I’m doing and no close friends with babies - they’re all either long past that stage or don’t have kids.

One younger friend is pregnant now and I am so happy for her but wish I was too, really hoping this will be our month.

Hey ladies, how is everyone doing? A friend of mine has recommended have acupuncture, anyone tried it or heard any success stories?

It’s relaxing but a waste of money if you ask me, the cycle I was successful was the one I didn’t have acupuncture on!

Do you wonder what it will be like for your youngest to lose their dad in their teens is twenties? That's what put me off having another one - husband being older.

I just don’t think you can predict these things. I had what I thought were older parents growing up (have rethought this now that we are TTC #1 at about 10 years older!) and was jealous of friends with much younger parents.

One of the youngest of my friends’ dads dropped dead of a heart attack in his 60s. My dad is still here at 81. You just can’t know.
