Conceiving after ectopic

Can anyone share their experiences of conceiving after an ectopic?

I had one last year, medical management rather than surgery and I still have both tubes, albeit they said it might cause some residual scarring on the left tube.

Been trying to get pregnant for 3 months now which I know is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I'm going into my fertile window now and I'd love to hear some positivity from other people ❤️

I have had a healthy pregnancy before, pre-ectopic.

@lemonyfox hope you’ve had a nice busy fertile week 😜. I think I’m going to try and track a bit, see if I can see what’s going on.

It really is so hard not to overthink, you're absolutely right.

Well annoyingly it looks like I'm ovulating 3 maybe 4 days later than usual this month so we've gone a bit to early with all the TTC and now my husband is "tired" fgs 😂 need to try and squeeze another go in the next day or two.

@lemonyfox thank you. I hope you have good news soon too.

Yes I’ve had the tests under the nhs, they found nothing and told us to just keep trying. I also saw a private consultant, because that didn’t sit right with me, and we had timed ovulation for a few months but still no luck. Both the private clinic and the NHS have checked my remaining tube and it’s clear, I’ve been checked for fibroids in my lining but nothing there - just a mystery. As I mentioned we fell quite quickly before the ectopic so it’s hard to go through so long of nothing. Trying to not overthink it but it’s really difficult.

it’s interesting about the stress thing. I’m really hoping it was the cause, long cycles make it all feel like a drag.

I’d just love so much to get pregnant naturally, going to keep everything crossed for some luck over the next few months! For all of us xx

I had two mmc in early 2021 when TTC baby no.2, then an ectopic in September 2021 which was picked up during a reassurance scan. I was “too pregnant” and so there was no attempt at medication. I lost my tube which apparently ruptured whilst I was in surgery. I then conceived again in April 2022 but had another loss, unconnected to the ectopic.

I conceived again in August 2022 and am currently 29w pregnant. Whilst I have a history of recurrent loss I previously fell pregnant within a 2-3months of trying, so it definitely did take longer post ectopic. However I know with at least the one I conceived post ectopic I ovulated from the side where I lost my tube.

Good luck, I know this is a really hard place to be right now.

I had a miscarriage followed by a ruptured ectopic eight months later, had surgery, lost a tube, had a massive cyst removed and had a blood transfusion. Six weeks later I was pregnant with DC1, when he was six months old I got pregnant with DC2. I was in my late thirties. Good luck everyone.

Petal7 · 11/03/2023 18:59

Positive story here. My first ever pregnancy was ectopic (treated with methotrexate). I then conceived my first DC the first month I was allowed to try again. I got pregnant with my second DC when my first DC was 10 months old and she was born safely when DC1 was 19 months. I then went on to have another ectopic (again treated with methotrexate) when DC2 was 9 months old. My third DC arrived safely 2yrs and 3 months after DC2. I had a miscarriage when DC3 was 18 months old and decided to stop TTC then for my mental health. I feel so lucky to have 3 lovely DC, all born within 4 years, despite the ectopics. I wish you all the very best and hope your story has a happy ending - it definitely is possible.

I had two early miscarriages and an ectopic. Medically managed. Both tubes but scarring .
Then 7 or 8 months later I got pregnant. All was ok. Now I have the baby and another

That's great news! How did you know you had scarring on the tube, did the doctors say at the time?

@FingersCrossedXXX thank you, and sorry to hear about your ectopic too. I really hope this is your month!

frustratingly, my previous 3 cycles before the latest have been 31/32 days so I was getting pretty good at predicting ovulation, also had some signs. The last cycle was 39 days so it’s thrown me. I don’t know if it was stress or something that delayed ovulation last month or my cycles are lengthening (they used to be longer) but I’m hoping it was a one off. If it was, I’d be ovulating about a week today. Might sneak a couple of OPKs to check nearer the time but I don’t want to get stressed about it either. It’s hard to know what to do, but I am starting to feel like I need to do more.

I think stress could very well be a big contributor. I'm a religious OPK user (embarrassingly even when we weren't even TTC...) and I often ovulate 3-4 days later when I've had a v stressful week with work

Hi everyone. I just wanted to join the chat as it would be great for this to become a support thread.

I had 3 early miscarriages before I got pregnant with my ectopic. The hospital treated another miscarriage so it went undiagnosed until it ruptured so I lost my tube. That was almost 2 years ago and still trying. Nearly a year was with really close tracking, but it all got too much so we have gone back to just seeing what happens, and still nothing. We will keep going for a while before deciding next steps. We fell pregnant quite quickly each time before the ectopic so I'm feeling a bit deflated. I've had the remaining tube tested and it's clear so it's just a waiting game. So lovely to hear positive stories 🥰

God I'm sorry, what a rough experience you've had. I really hope you fall pregnant soon after everything you've been through. I guess you've had all the NHS tests etc and everything looks clear, is it just one of those unexplained things?

My friend had three ectopic pregnancies (one of them resulted in her losing a tube) and she now has two beautiful children.

@Rainbowwishing I am sorry to hear about your losses, that sounds really difficult. I really hope it happens soon for you.

I know you are not tracking but do you know roughly when you should be ovulating this month? I think I am due to ovulate this weekend but my periods have varied in length since the ectopic so not entirely sure!

@shivbo2014 Did you have any treatment or was it expectant management?

I've had two babies post ectopic where I lost a tube. Didn't affect my fertility at all. Surgeon said the egg would just find the healthy tube. Best of luck.

This. I went on to have two sons x

I had an ectopic last year which resolved naturally in June so no methotrexate or tube removal. We waited a couple of months then started TTC again and it happened quickly for us in September! Now 28 weeks pregnant!

I had a placement scan at 6 weeks. They dated the pregnancy 5+5 and we saw a gestational sac and yolk sac but it was too soon to see the fetal pole or heartbeat. Had a private scan at 8 weeks showing all was developing normally.

The two weeks between the positive test and the placement scan were the most anxiety inducing days of my life for sure. Wishing you the best! ✨

Plimsongrey · 07/03/2023 20:45

I had an ectopic treated with injection, followed by a miscarriage. Now 28 weeks pregnant.

I did fertility acupuncture and reflexology to prepare for this pregnancy. Took Nua fertility vitamins, no caffeine, no alcohol. Also went to a private clinic to get early loss tests and found out I had mthfr gene (don't process folic acid properly) so now I take a special form called methylfolate.

Good luck!! Don't lose hope x

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 07/03/2023 20:41

I had an ectopic 9 years ago that was treated with methotrexate. I’m now TTC (cycle 6) and nothing - does any one know if scarring from such a long ago ectopic can cause problems?

iamnotanalcoholic70 · 07/03/2023 20:37

I had a ruptured ectopic and had a tube removed. I'd already had an ovary removed from the other side. I conceived 3 months after the ectopic and the 12 year old result just dragged me to the supermarket! I found it more difficult than I expected during early pregnancy as I had to keep getting bloods done to check my hcg was rising appropriately and had several scans. I'd previously had 2 successful pregnancies and a miscarriage and was 38 conceiving child number 3 (pregnancy number 5)

floodbez1878 · 07/03/2023 20:18

@lemonyfox
I didn't know about Mumsnet at the time and I wish I bloody had as I only found one person who'd had a mmc followed by an ectopic so I felt I was doomed! I could have done with a good dose of positivity back then for sure

@lemonyfox
Thank you and same to you also ❤️
Yes she wondered whether my mmc may have caused my Fallopian tubes to be less efficient in pushing the egg down..but there is no way of knowing.
It was all horrendous but my three year old is an absolute dote so she was worth all the fear and anxiety I'd trying again.
I was an absolute arsehole to everyone around me for quite a while and quite obsessive about googling pregnancy after an ectopic so go easy on yourself and there are lots and lots of positive stories too about post ectopic pregnancies. In fact one of the women in the hospital in Italy who did a follow up scan on me was pregnant with a post ectopic which gave me hope

It's so easy to fall down internet rabbit holes though isn't it, and reading every positive and negative thing that could happen. But I'm so glad it worked out okay in the end for you.

Actually Mumsnet was a really helpful source of support when I was TTC my first long before all this happened, so I'll probably be on here a lot until then!

I had an ectopic pregnancy in December 2020, had Methotrexate (and had to wait to conceive again). I conceived in August 2021 and the result is asleep upstairs 😍

The two weeks waiting from the positive test to the early scan were about as terrifying as I’ve ever known, but it is absolutely possible to go on to have a successful pregnancy post ectopic. I had thought I felt twinges on the side of the ectopic but I had actually ovulated from the other side (in fact, I was a bit disappointed to find out that it was the other side!).

Good luck to you. Remember - it is early days but it is highly likely that you will be able to have a healthy pregnancy.

You're absolutely right I know, it's lovely hearing successes though!

Was your early scan at 6 weeks too? I can imagine how horrendous the wait was.
