Cheryl Cole just said at 39 she's too old to have another biological baby. What's your thoughts?
I'm genuinely curious as someone who's nearly 38 I'm still trying for my first baby.
Can a healthy pregnancy be possible?
At 39 apparently half your eggs would be deemed chromosomally abnormal.
What's your experience on getting pregnant at this age?

My brothers were 21 and 14 when I was born to our Mum of 40. No problems, she had 8 sisters and the majority had children in their 40s. This was in the 1940s when the health service in this country was not brilliant. No N.H.S until 1948

Seagully7 · 24/01/2023 17:09

Had my 5th healthy baby at 41

I don’t know why everyone quick to defend Cole. I can’t forget her racial assault on that woman. She’s a nasty piece of work and talks a lot of bollocks.

Because the two things are completely unrelated?

At 39yoi wasn’t worried that my eggs were too old. That’s a lot if rubbish Imo.

But 39yo was my cut off because I felt I didn’t want to continue raising a child until I was 60yo. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Phrenologistsfinger · 24/01/2023 17:04

Well, between 37-40, I have had 13 naturally conceived miscarriages!

Out of 47 eggs collected in IVF (4 rounds) at 39-40, 24 eggs fertilised but only 7 made it to day 5/6 embryos. Of those 7, 3 are genetically abnormal, 2 are untested but probably abnormal, 1 is genetically a bit ropey and 1 is normal. Drs say we are statistically average for our age!

We are certainly pushing our biology as hard as we can, including with growth hormone and a billion supplements… will it work? Probably not!

CousinKrispy · 24/01/2023 17:04

It's fine for her to feel it's too old for her personally.

I had DD at 39 and my mum had me at 45! Both perfectly normal (well...) and didn't have to go to any particular effort to conceive or have problems in pregnancy.

BlueBox81 · 24/01/2023 17:03

Oh yeh! And all of these babies were accidents!

helloimnew123 · 24/01/2023 17:03

Deadringer · 24/01/2023 15:37

Is she just using her age as an excuse to outsource work that is too difficult and messy for her to deal with? Ie using a surrogate.

You do understand how a surrogate works?
That would be a biological child.

She actually has spoken about the option of adopting as she would like to help a baby/ child.

You sound very judgmental considering you obviously haven't read the interview

differentdish · 24/01/2023 17:02

I'm 37 (38 this year) and I feel too past it to have another one, but it's more to do with the fact that I'm just not maternal enough for it.

BlueBox81 · 24/01/2023 17:02

Here's my anecdata: my mum had me at 41, my aunt had my cousin at 42 and my friend had a baby (her first one) at 43! All babies were healthy/no issues. I fell pregnant at 39, it didn't work out but the issue wasn't related to my age.

Some vile comments. We have no idea if her medical history, nor should we. She's merely saying in her case she feels too old.

Probably being sensible and self aware

This.

I felt too old to have more at that age. But I had my second (last as it turned out) at 29. Had I not had any yet I’m sure I would have been happy to try. It’s personal choice not a criticism.

Butchyrestingface · 24/01/2023 17:00

I haven't seen her comments in full but presumably she said she is too old (a person with her own medical history and feelings and history), rather than that every woman alive is too old?

pompomdaisy · 24/01/2023 17:00

At 38 I had my second and it certainly felt much more difficult. I wouldn't try at 39 personally.

Trixiefirecracker · 24/01/2023 17:00

…And nobody has once thought I was my child’s grandmother!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/01/2023 17:00

She’s talking out of her orifice.
My dd had hers at 38,39, and nearly 43. All fine.
Two and three weren’t even ‘tried for’.

I do know she was probably very lucky, though.

Trixiefirecracker · 24/01/2023 16:59

Lots of folk having kids later and later, that is also their choice. I had one at 40 and did contemplate another at 42. I had a career I wanted so left it late but met plenty of older mum’s. In fact the woman in my breastfeeding group had her first at 45 and wanted another. Each to their own own.

MakingMarlsAndOtherThings · 24/01/2023 16:58

There are many reasons, physical, emotional, biological, that 39 is too old for them, none of which are anyone else’s business. 39 would be too old for me because my mum had me at 43 and was constantly very upset by people thunking I was her grandaughter and I spent my childhood wishing I had much younger parents. (My dad was 45). They were both dead before I started uni at 21.

Also don’t celebrities regularly knock a good few years off their age as well? Maybe she’s not even chronologically 39, not that it matters.

LuluBlakey1 · 24/01/2023 16:58

I had DS2 at 40. My mam had me when she was well into her 40s.

Looneytune253 · 24/01/2023 16:57

Personally, for me, yes I'm too old for another and she's same age as me. I've had two and defo couldn't be bothered at this age. Had so much more energy etc back then. I'm defo not past it (and I do it for a job too) but it's not for me!! I can understand her thoughts

Lampzade · 24/01/2023 16:56

I had my three dcs before the age of 34.
Ideally I wouldn’t want to have children in my late thirties/ early forties because I know that I would have found it difficult.
My dsis had her last child at 43 and she has been fine with it . Different strokes.,,

CruCru · 24/01/2023 16:56

It's fair enough. Plenty of women only have one child. Her child is now 5 or 6 so is at school. I couldn't imagine having a newborn and having to do the school run.

LadyKenya · 24/01/2023 16:55

She feels that 39 is too old for herself. A perfectly valid reason, for herself. She is not talking for other women.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 24/01/2023 16:55

everyone is different. Personally 34 was my cut off but luckily I was all done before that.

Lampzade · 24/01/2023 16:52

MotherOfHouseplants · 24/01/2023 16:14

Yes, unless she has made other comments elsewhere then the OP's paraphrase totally misrepresents what CC said.

Exactly
This is what you call reading things out of context.
