Cheryl Cole just said at 39 she's too old to have another biological baby. What's your thoughts?
I'm genuinely curious as someone who's nearly 38 I'm still trying for my first baby.
Can a healthy pregnancy be possible?
At 39 apparently half your eggs would be deemed chromosomally abnormal.
What's your experience on getting pregnant at this age?

Perhaps her "39" is really 40-something.

Is she just using her age as an excuse to outsource work that is too difficult and messy for her to deal with? Ie using a surrogate.

It’s obviously not impossible considering lots of people do it, but it’s not unusual to feel too old for babies when you’re coming up to 40, especially if you’ve had children younger.

Had my second at 39. Conceived in a month no problems. Sleep function didn't work very well though 😀. It's a personal choice though. What's right for one is different for someone else. I'm much older now and I'm very tired facing caring responsibilities to my parents. And teenagers presents its own challenges. If I had a choice I would of loved to have been younger. But it is what it is and I wouldn't change it.

I had a baby at 39. My friend had her final one at 49.
Both perfectly healthy.

By the Numbers
You’re at your peak fertility in your 20s. Healthy women that age who are trying to conceive have about a 1 in 4 chance of getting pregnant during a single menstrual cycle. In other words, 25 out of 100 women will succeed per month.

By age 40, an average healthy woman has only a 5% chance of getting pregnant per cycle.

At the same time, the likelihood of miscarriage climbs with your age. A typical 40-year-old has about a 40% chance of losing the pregnancy. That compares to less than 15% for someone in their 20s.

39 is absolutely pushing it.

Alarae · 24/01/2023 15:34

Maybe for her she is? She might have a low egg reserve and her eggs ran out sooner than others?

I doubt she meant any harm in it (without knowing the full context of the statement).

Had my first at 41, totally healthy baby.
