Cheryl Cole just said at 39 she's too old to have another biological baby. What's your thoughts?
I'm genuinely curious as someone who's nearly 38 I'm still trying for my first baby.
Can a healthy pregnancy be possible?
At 39 apparently half your eggs would be deemed chromosomally abnormal.
What's your experience on getting pregnant at this age?

I've only got one (she's 14) and the thought of doing it all again early 40s is terrifying. And very very tiring Confused

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 24/01/2023 15:59

I had dd3 at 39, nearly 40. It had taken me several years to fall. Already had a 10 and 13 year old. For me, I wouldn't have had another, but may well have if no 3 had arrived a few years earlier

Maybe for her she is? She might have a low egg reserve and her eggs ran out sooner than others?

I doubt she meant any harm in it (without knowing the full context of the statement).

Exactly this! Maybe she feels too old herself. Maybe she's having early menopause symptoms (I was at that age), maybe she has other health issues.

bunnypenny · 24/01/2023 15:57

I had my first at 40, second at 41 and third at 43. All conceived the first month of trying and all healthy, no problems at all in pregnancy or birth.

Beachsidesunset · 24/01/2023 15:56

Had my first at 39. Now have 4!

Not sure Cheryl Cole is at the forefront of reproductive science

She's saying she personally is too old, she's not claiming to be an expert on reproductive science.

For me PERSONALLY, I would think of myself as too old at 39 (42 now) but I had my 3rd and final baby at 29 and knew I was done so in a different position to you.

VictoriaBun · 24/01/2023 15:51

Perhaps she has gone through an early menopause ? ( I was 38 )

Sucessinthenewyear · 24/01/2023 15:48

Well if course it’s biologically possible for some people but for many it isn’t.

Mommabear20 · 24/01/2023 15:48

I think it's biologically fine and absolutely perfect for some people, but everyone is different and for example, I felt that 30 would be the cut off for me (I'm 28 now with 3 DC & am very much done), my best friend however is 30 and only just starting to think about kids.

WeWereInParis · 24/01/2023 15:47

Do you mean this quote from her?

"I was so hell bent on having another before because Bear was at that perfect age. I think if you have that couple year age gap, you can still do things with them together where they're both engaged and both interested.
Now that the pandemic happened in the in the meantime, and there's such an age gap, and I'm a bit older. I'm not so sure, honestly."

It's not as if she's said 39 is too old for people to have children. She's mentioned it as one factor in her decision making.

Riverbiscuits · 24/01/2023 15:47

I had my first at 39 and second at 41, very luckily with no issues.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 24/01/2023 15:47

I'm 38 and have friends similar ages having perfectly healthy and happy first babies.

However - my DC are 18 and 14 and I personally feel too old to start again and have another baby. Personal health issues aside I'm not sure I would have the energy! I like my sleep too much!

I think maybe it's different if you already have DC?

Deadringer · 24/01/2023 15:37

Is she just using her age as an excuse to outsource work that is too difficult and messy for her to deal with? Ie using a surrogate.

Me thinks this also

Cuppasoupmonster · 24/01/2023 15:45

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/01/2023 15:37

I had a baby at 39. My friend had her final one at 49.
Both perfectly healthy.

But the latter stunningly rare.

Obviously it's not impossible, but it's a personal choice and evidently she's decided she's too old. Maybe she doesn't want to be an older mum, maybe she wants to be able to spend her 40's relaxing after a very busy 20's and 30's, maybe she's having some fertility problems. Who knows. Shouldn't influence your decision one jot.

Totally this. Maybe she meant that she wouldn't want to be 40 years older than her children?
My Mum was young when she had me, and I love that fact that she is such an active and healthy grandma, I also love that she will (hopefully) be around to see her grandchildren grow up. I was much less young when I had my DC and I really wish I had been younger!

Cuppasoupmonster · 24/01/2023 15:44

Biologically it is old, that’s just a fact. If you see human fertility as a timeline from 16 to 45 it’s very much towards the end. Still doable however; and most women who try for a baby at that age will have one.

postitpatty · 24/01/2023 15:42

We tried for years but at 40 drew the line under it. Yes people do have healthy normal pregnancies in their 40's but it risked both for mum and chances of have healthy baby.

bagelbagelbagel · 24/01/2023 15:41

Had my second at 37. Wouldn't have a third now, but most people have less knackered bodies than mine!

I was 37 when DS was conceived. My mum was 43 when I was conceived.

lipstickwoman · 24/01/2023 15:38

Some vile comments. We have no idea if her medical history, nor should we. She's merely saying in her case she feels too old.

Probably being sensible and self aware
