Cheryl Cole just said at 39 she's too old to have another biological baby. What's your thoughts?
I'm genuinely curious as someone who's nearly 38 I'm still trying for my first baby.
Can a healthy pregnancy be possible?
At 39 apparently half your eggs would be deemed chromosomally abnormal.
What's your experience on getting pregnant at this age?

Thing is you don't need to take someone making a different decision to you as a personal attack. It's a choice.

My Grandma was 46 when she had my mum. My mum went on to be a mum of 5 and now grandma to 12 …. So I’m very glad she had a baby in her 40’s! I love my family x

I just think it’s really irresponsible - and mean - for someone in the public eye to say something like that when there are so many women around that age who are TTC. It’s a sensitive subject. I’m right about her chavvy background though. It’s just a fact 🤷‍♀️

Ahhhhh so you’re an older mum feeling all ‘triggered’ over her comment.

If she’s so chavvy and awful, why do you care what she thinks and let it bother you? Surely you’re far too educated and wise to let the words of a pop star get to you..?

Toomuchtrouble4me · 04/03/2023 22:04

I think it does depend where you live. I had 2 in 30’s then two more at 42 and 44 (+10 months so almost 45).
BFF had her twins at 47 and my Sil had 3 between ages of 41 and 45.
We’re all in London and there are more older mums than twenties mums at our school gates.

CC was talking about herself, and her own feelings about having another child at her age; she didn't make any judgements or comments on anyone else. She may have gynae/peri issues; or other reasons for feeling this way.

You, though, are a judgemental snob, using classist, pejorative terms against someone.
Cheryl Cole has achieved far more than you could ever dream of, despite your (presumably) wonderful middle class background.

39 might seem too old for Cheryl because she’s from a chavvy background. Her childhood contemporaries are probably great-grandmothers by now 😂

This comment says a lot more about you than Cheryl.

Yikes what triggered you?!

I had mine at 36 & 39 and although it was never the right time for me personally before that, I do wonder if I'd have had more energy for it all (sleepless nights, toddler stage etc) if I'd had them younger...

I had my first at 24. When I was in my 40s I babysat overnight and a few Sundays her baby, who became toddler. OMG it’s hard when your older, it saps it out if you

Roselilly36 · 02/03/2023 07:31

Her choice totally, she already has a child, perhaps she would feel differently if she didn’t have him.

nobodygirl2023 · 02/03/2023 04:06

It's the norm these days but very much a personal thing. Medically you are considered a high risk pregnancy over the age of 35 and as a 'geriatric mother' but in a social / cultural sense, its normal.

Shelly696969 · 02/03/2023 03:34

I had first child at 24 then triplets at 39

cptartapp · 01/03/2023 20:35

My friend had her second set of twins at 47. Her first set were 17!

Phrenologistsfinger · 01/03/2023 19:13

So much anecdata here! So what, I’ve had 13 miscarriages between 37 and 40 - and 4 rounds of IVF has made only a few dubious embryos - the only reason they can give me is my age!

Kennykenkencat · 01/03/2023 18:50

Got pregnant very easily at both 38 and 40

Bubblesdublin · 25/01/2023 16:34

Whats the bet she is pregnant before end of the year.

FKATondelayo · 25/01/2023 12:17

MK85 · 24/01/2023 22:48

@FKATondelayo I disagree. It depends on the individual. I know plenty of women In their 30s had children with absolutely no issues, they bounced right back after birth. All my friends, bar one or two had their children in their 30s

Disagree all you like. It's well-established that younger women as a population are fitter, more energetic and have less complicated, less risky pregnancies and labours than older women.

I think these conversations can be valuable. My generation were told that bright girls work hard and only stupid girls have babies young. Do it in your late thirties I was told. I could have had babies in early twenties but didn’t because I, and especially DH, had been misled into thinking later would be better.

I think you can’t be very bright to make a life changing decision based on what someone else has told you. I think most people do what they think is right for them at the age they feel ready for it ( unless they get pregnant by mistake).

Trixiefirecracker · 25/01/2023 09:09

MakingMarlsAndOtherThings · 24/01/2023 23:11

Really?

Yes. Really. You don’t think some 20/30 year olds have medical issues or are overweight/obese/smoke/take drugs or have their health compromised in some way?

You're an adult. Nobody should be making decisions as serious as having children based on what "society told me"

To claim you were misled, what a way tp give up agency of one's own life and put the responsibility square outside one's own reach.

because I, and especially DH, had been misled into thinking later would be better.

Anonbaby · 24/01/2023 23:35

@Blube i agree to a degree. I went to university and bought a house and was established in my career before we tried for children and this is what I believed was the sensible thing to do. It worked out well until now when we have secondary infertility and I’m now 36 and can’t conceive again and I certainly wish I had more time on my side so I wasn’t under so much pressure to make decisions regarding intervention etc. so in an ideal world I wanted to have had my children before I was 35 but it hasn’t worked out. Who knows how old I will be if/when I complete my family but it is certainly older than I had imagined

Blube · 24/01/2023 23:23

Anonbaby · 24/01/2023 22:53

I find these conversations pretty pointless. Not everyone chooses to have children later in life but they end up in a situation eg due to fertility struggles or not meeting partners until later whereby they either do it at an older age or miss out on having children completely. I’m sure most people would choose to have them earlier (maybe under 35) rather than later because of the risks, potential difficulties in getting pregnant etc etc but not everyone has the luxury of having a choice
