Ladies over 35- how long did it take you to conceive?

We are trying for our first and going into the 6th month. Each cycle adds a little more anxiety. I'm 35 and have never been pregnant. DH also has no children. Using ovulation kits and BBT.

I was wondering how many cycles it took you to conceive when you were over 35. Especially a first pregnancy. I know everyone is different but it helps to hear other people's stories.

Age 38 22 cycles. Live birth.
Age 40 11 cycles. TFMR.
Age 41 7 cycles. Live birth.
No miscarriages.

Three conceived in mid to late thirties, all first or second month of trying.

We were fortunate.

I have friends where it took quite a few months tho, good luck!

Aged 40 first try. Ovulation kit and Preseed.

Age 31 conceived first month
Age 33 conceived after 5 months
Age 37 got pregnant by accident but miscarried then got pregnant after 2 months of actively trying

Things that I believe helped - using ovulation sticks, smep method, eating Brazil nuts from day of ovulation, using conceive plus and pregnacare pre conception tablets. Also not peeing after sex!

Had been actively trying from age 28. Nothing. Gave up age 34. Just resigned myself to not having kids (DP already has 4 - so knew it wasn't him). I wasn't trying to get pregnant, but did nothing to prevent it. Then age 36, out the blue, found out I was pregnant!

Started trying at 38 ( married a year) and never conceived - even with treatment including IVF.

It took having sex about 20 times, at the time DH was working shifts and we were building a house so we barely saw each other. So over about 7 months we had unprotected sex about 20 times. If we had been having sex more regularly then it may have been sooner but I’ve no way to know. We certainly weren’t doing anything to make it easier anyway! No charting or temperature taking or anything.
We were 40 (almost 41) and 45 (almost 46).

First baby I was 35 and it took 7 months. Second pregnancy I was 37 and it took 1 month but ended in MC. Third (current) pregnancy took 5 months.

First baby I was 34 and it took about 4 months, second I was 37 and had a chemical pregnancy the very first month we tried followed by 6 months of trying before we conceived.

Started trying a few months before I turned 35, it took 9 months to get pregnant felt an age at the time but wasn’t in the scheme of things

Age 37 1 month (ended in mmc) then 2 months (successful pregnancy).

Age 39 4 months (another mmc)

Age 40 9 months (successful pregnancy)

Go to your GP if it has been 6 months - they will begin investigations if you're over 35 and have been trying for 6 months or more.

age 36 implant out, one period then pregnant , not first baby.

@RiderofRohan it's not really down to age in such a cut and dry way. I had my AMH (ovarian reserve) tested at 32 and I have a low score for my age.

At 35, after 6 months of trying, you can begin tests via your GP. For peace of mind I'd recommend getting your day 3 and day 21 bloods done and getting your partner to do a sperm analysis. I found it good to know my AMH too, but I did this privately for around £100 (in London). Good luck! X

Yes, you both have a point. But it's weirdly helpful for me to hear other people succeeding, whether that's straight away or after some time. Gives me more hope.

Took me 3 years to conceive my first at age 37. Second child conceived on first attempt at age 41 🤷🏼‍♀️

This thread won’t make you feel good op - people vary enormously in terms of how long - it will depend on a number of variables

we found the spent meets egg plant to work very effectively though! Tiring but it worked for us both times

Almost straight away at 36 with DD.Tried again at 40 but miscarried. Unable to conceive again and unlikely to as I'm now 46.

Started trying for first at 34, now 36 and starting IVF in two weeks. No pregnancies in that time. Unexplained infertility.

I remember asking your question over a year ago. Everyone is different. You don’t know what hand you’ll be dealt until you go through it.

TTC third baby for almost two years and still going. Age 34 at the start and 36 now. Other two children conceived quickly

Pregnant with second now at 39; this one took 18 months.
